3rd Rock’s Nerd Consultant Brian Greene Searches For Perfect Vegan Pizza

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 30th, 2008 in Authors, Food & Drink.

Brian Greene is a physicist and professor who was educated at Harvard and currently teaches at Columbia University where he studies how the universe works. The discipline he thinks rocks the most is “string theory,” also known as unified field theory. Don’t ask us how to explain it.

So why is he here on a celebrity site? Well, he’s become a celebrity in in own nerdy way, appearing on The David Letterman Show, Conan O’Brian, and has authored several books. He also kept the writers at 3rd Rock From The Sun from looking stupid when they incorporated science facts into episodes for the show.

Shortly after telling his mom he was going vegetarian, he went to the fridge to make a salami sandwich. Does this prove that science geniuses aren’t always that smart, ha, ha? Well, he was only nine years old, so give him a break. He chalks it up to his “city kid” awareness of things. (We think this means if it no longer looks like meat, it fools ya.)

“I became vegetarian when I was nine because my mother cooked spare ribs in a manner that made the connection to meat from an animal particularly clear. So at that point I said I’m never eating meat again and proceeded to go to the refrigerator and make a salami sandwich, because, a city kid, you know, what is meat? You don’t know what meat is, really. And my parents said, “Well, that salami is meat.”… But I did eat dairy for a while until I went to an animal sanctuary in Upstate New York and learned all sorts of things about the dairy industry, which, frankly, I was happy not to know. But once I did, I couldn’t go back. I’m still searching for the ultimate vegan pizza.”

If you’re interested in reading the rest of the interview, we can make that happen. If you’re interested in learning more about string theory-you’re on your own.

The White House Correspondents' Association Dinner

“My exhibitionism can be a great vehicle – here are the boobs, now let’s talk about animal experimentation.”

—-Pamela Anderson, in an interview admitting she’s likes dressing sexy and getting attention and that it can be helpful when trying to get people to pay attention to issues she’s talking about.

It definitely gets discussion going. Whether or not the conversation and thoughts are about animal rights is yet to be determined.

Did Pickler Interrupt Underwood’s Veggie Meal With Stork?

Carrie Underwood Unveils Her Wax Figure At Madame Tussauds

Carrie: No Kellie, you don’t want to eat it if it’s cooked in chicken broth. LOL!

Carrie Underwood may have found a man that’s just as good as animals this time.  She was spotted having dinner with Travis Stork, a former TV “Bachelor.”

Insiders gave lots of juicy details such as the dinner couple holding hands and showing affect and taking a break from lovin’ to sing Happy Birthday to a nearby party.

We have a strange suspicion that insiders failed to notice that Carrie got interrupted 10 times that night by newly vegetarian Kellie Pickler texting questions about rennet, soymilk, and natural flavorings.

Underwood had said before in an interview that if she had to choose between animals and men, she’d choose animals because she hasn’t found a good man yet, but lots of good animals.

Poor Stork. Doesn’t know the cats, dogs, and farm animals he may be up against.

Carrie ate a very veggie ravioli and beet salad, then finished off with an omelet. No news on what Stork ate.

Kellie: Thanx babe. Luv u so much:)

No, Benjamin Zephaniah, Vegan’s Not An Insult!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 in Authors.

Growing up, poet and vegan Benjamin Zephaniah viewed animals as friends that didn’t judge him by the color of his skin. It was probably this love of animals that played a big role in his decision to become vegan-even if he didn’t know what “vegan” meant.

It seems he cut dairy from his diet without knowing there was a name for it. And when someone called him the name for it, he didn’t take it too well.

During an interview on Veggie Vision TV, and UK based vegetarian themed internet television, he told a story about how he got into a fight with someone who called him “vegan,” because at the time he thought it was some sort of racial insult.

Not sure what happened when he found out the meaning of the word. Maybe he treated the guy to a tall glass of soy milk as a peace offering?

Kellie Pickler Vegetarian Thanks To The Power Of Blonds

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

The 43rd Annual Academy Of Country Music Awards - Arrivals

Kiss that meat goodbye, girlfriend!

We always like it when someone crosses over to our side. Country music star and American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler is the latest celebrity to become vegetarian. Even better, she’s talking about it.

In People Magazine, she credits both Pamela Anderson and Carrie Underwood for helping her convert. We call it the power of blonds.

Pickler first switched to being a veg for health reasons. Then she saw a video by Pamela Anderson on animal rights, which, much like the experience of Anthony Kiedis, convinced her there was no turning back.

“A lot of it has to do with knowing what happens to the animals and it really bothered me and so I will not eat meat,” she said.

So Pamela Anderson is the first blond. Then comes fellow Idol alumnus Carrie Underwood. When she made the decision, she began texting back and forth, asking Carrie all sorts of newbie questions, such as “Is fish considered a meat?” Underwood, being the ever supportive teacher didn’t know if Pickler could pull it off at first and was amazed that she stuck through it.

Being a small fish in a large pond, Pickler is careful not to get too preachy. There aren’t many vegetarians in country music, with Shania Twain being one of the few.

“Most country girls do like their meat!” she said.

Now one less country girl eats her meat.

Anne Hathaway’s Shower At Whole Foods

BFI 52 London Film Festival: 'Rachel Getting Married' - Red Carpet

The Karen & Sisters food loving actress Anne Hathaway was spotted grocery shopping at Whole Foods in Hollywood a few days ago. If you remember us telling you, Anne told David Letterman she had gone back to being vegetarian, was almost vegan, and had given up smoking as well.

Apparently, she was examining the produce when the timed sprinkler went off and gave her a little “shower.”

We guess this Whole Foods doesn’t have a recording device that says, “Please stand back. Freshwater misting is about to occur.”

It may be for the best. The voice-over can be more startling than a little mist.
