Halo Vegan Garden Medley Dog Food

Ellen DeGeneres‘ pet food company, Halo, has unveiled a vegan dog food for animal lovers who want their dogs to eat like them.

The Vegan Garden Medley is a vegan blend of vitamins, minerals and the same essential nutrients as in meat based protein diets.

Peas and chickpeas provide digestible protein, while pearled barley, oat groats and potatoes are digestible carbohydrates and fiber. Healthy oils like canola, flaxseed and sunflower are added to the mix for good sources of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Vegan Garden Medley also contains numerous fruits and vegetables like sweet potatoes, blueberries, carrots and cranberries that provide vitamins and antioxidants.

Bo Obama

Bo Obama, America’s first dog, has been exceptionally good this year by not chewing up the first lady’s dinner party shoes and as a reward, he’s getting some vegan dog treats from PETA.

In a letter addressed to Michelle, PETA’s president Ingrid Newkirk also reminds the first family that a harness might make Bo more comfortable during walks.

“As animal rights advocates, we would be remiss if we didn’t make sure that Bo got a gift basket from PETA headquarters here in Washington,” the letter says.

Alicia Silverstone Favorite Vegetarian Dog Treats

Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone and her husband keep vegetarian in the entire family–including the couple’s dogs!

Silverstone recently took to her blog, The Kind Life, to discuss the dogs’ meatless diets and share her recommendations for canine food.

She feeds her pups the Canine Health Line from Dr. Harvey’s brand of dog food. Canine Health Line offers a mix of human grade organic grains, vegetables and herbs with absolutely no animal products. It functions as sort of a doggie “Hamburger Helper,” as you add your own protein to the mix, such as lentils, and cook it.

Silverstone recommends about adding extra supplements to the mix, though.

Michelle Obama appeared on The Jay Leno Show and revealed the first pup, Bo, feasted on a doghouse shaped cake made of veal.

Ugh!

And you thought it couldn’t get any worse after the Obamas turned down the opportunity for a shelter dog.

We can’t think of a more unhappier celebration than a cake made from animals that are taken away from their mothers at birth and confined in small crates where they can’t move around.

It’s an industry so cruel, even some meat eaters swear off baby animals.

Jane Velez-Mitchell Gone To The Vegan Dogs?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 5th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Journalists.

20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards - New York City

Much veggie ado is taking place on Jane Velez-Mitchell‘s Facebook.

A fan recently asked Jane, a vegan, if she was thinking of bringing her dogs over to that side, too.

“Hey Jane, I was just wondering, since you own Chihuahuas and your a vegetarian, do you have your dogs eating “meat-free” dog food? There are such products for dogs and cats of owners that are vegans, but dogs and cats are naturally meat eaters, so I think its bad to their health to restrict meat from their diet. What do you think?”

Yo quiero comida sin carne!

Lots of pet owners, including celebrities like Alicia Silverstone, Shahid Kapoor, and Paul McCartney, have put their dogs and cats on vegetarian diets, with special attention being paid to cats since it’s essential to have food that contains taurine, found mainly in chicken.

But vegan dog and cat food exists.

Have you made your pet go veg?

Legally Blonde fans put your Broadway shoes on.

Legally Blonde is currently touring the country with performance dates going through Spring of 2010.

If you remember the Reese Witherspoon goes to law school comedy, you remember her Paris Hilton-like handbag dog sidekick, Bruiser.

And the fact that Elle and Bruiser are both “Gemini Vegetarians.”

You don’t have to make a perfect score on the LSAT to know vegetarian dog food is available for your little Bruiser, Tito, or Max.

Vegan dog foods like V-Dog are available to pet owners interested in filling their pup with high protein plant based alternatives.

Because for some of man’s best friends, meat is totally optional.

Bet Bruiser wished those pink outfits were optional too.

Heather Mills recently Tweeted about her plans to come out with a vegan dog food brand.

Yay for Fido, Fluffy, and Max!

Heather didn’t give any specifics when she replied to one of her followers on Twitter, just that a brand was in the works.

A vegan restaurant opening next month, frozen food products to come, and veggie dog chow in the creative draft phase. Could Heather be on her way to having her own vegan empire?

Several veg celebrities have vegan dogs, including Alicia Silverstone, Paul McCartney, and Bollywood babe Shahid Kapoor

Alicia Silverstone claims her dogs pass less gas because of their vegan diet, which some pet owners believe is the only way to go. If they won’t let an animal suffer for their own food, why should it be any different for their canine friends?
