**RESTRICTIONS APPLY** Moby at The Hangover premiere event at Vue cinema in London

Moby will kick off a set of concerts in Europe next month in efforts to raise climate change awareness in young people.

In a joint deal with MTV, the concerts are part of the European Commission’s “Play to stop – Europe for climate” campaign.

Moby will perform in Stockholm on August 20, with other musicians taking the stages in Budapest and Copenhagen during the following weeks.

Looks like the European Commission and MTV chose the right man for the job. Who better to represent climate change awareness than longtime vegan Moby?

There’s no greater way to reduce your impact on the planet than to choose a plant based diet, which can reduce livestock emissions, and clear land that would normally be used to feed farm animals for people.

The musician has also been active in supporting Paul McCartney’s Meat Free Monday campaign, aimed at getting people to just reduce their meat consumption by going vegetarian one day a week.

Sure hope he plasters a “Go Veg” sign on his stage set.

Teany Beverage Launch Party

Earlier we brought you the news that Teany, the cafe and restaurant Moby co-founded with ex girlfriend Kelly Tisdale, was badly damaged by a fire.

At the time, Moby wasn’t sure what Kelly’s plans were for re-building, but now it looks as though Teany may be up and running in a couple of months.

On his online journal, Moby gave this update:

“teany burned up the other day, but apparently kelly is working hard to repair it and get it re-opened. so there’s a good chance that teany will re-open at some point in the next month or two. i will put news here on moby.com as i find out about it.”

Moby Signs Copies Of His New CD Teany Book And Hotel At Barnes And Noble

Update: Alas, Teany will rise again! See link.

Teany Cafe, a tea and vegan food shop in New York founded by Moby and his then girlfriend Kelly Tisdale, experienced a fire this weekend.

Although no one was hurt, the store was destroyed, and it’s not sure whether or not Kelly will rebuild and reopen.

On his Myspace, Moby blogged:

“I believe that teany the cafe might, alas, be no more.”

“Yesterday there was a fire (no one was hurt, as far as I know), and teany was destroyed.”

“I need to ask kelly if she’s going to re-build it, and as soon as she says ‘yay’ or ‘nay’ I’ll let you know.”

“I’m really glad no one was hurt, and if anyone has pictures of teany post-fire I’d love to see them (as I’m in germany as I write this, and can’t go round to see the damage).”

Teany started off as both a tea and food shop when Kelly and Moby opened it.  Later, Teany became more of a hub for tea when Kelly took over most of the business decisions, although it still had a variety of vegan entrees on the menu.

Moby once remarked that Teany was so great because meat eaters were just as happy with the faux selections as vegetarians.

Moby Asks Moby About Self-Righteous Vegan Crap

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, June 19th, 2009 in Humor, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Videos.

Moby recently sat down and interviewed himself.

Yes, you read right. In a hilarious interview, cool video technique combines with Moby’s strange sense of humor, allowing the singer and musician to take on two different personas, one that mocks and ridicules him while asking questions.

“So while we’re here, you got any of that self-righteous vegan crap you want to talk about?” asked Moby’s alter ego, who sports a backwards cap.

“Well, it’s not self-righteous,” Moby answers. “At least, I hope it’s not self-righteous. I’ve been a vegan now for 22 years.”

“Boooring,” sighs alter ego Moby.

“If other people choose to eat meat or dairy products, that’s their choice. I don’t really want to judge them. I hope I’m not being too self-righteous.”

Alter ego Moby says he really wishes Eminem had kicked Moby’s ass at the MTV awards and asks how it feels to be the least attractive musician in the business.

Man, alter egos can be brutal!

“If I point my finger at someone, saying, “You should be a vegetarian,” they’re just going to get annoyed…There is definitely a risk [of] alienating people. Moby Ponders If Zombies Eat Vegans

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Tribeca Film Festival Chanel Dinner celebrity arrivals in NYCMoby was on his way to the dentist recently when he started a much intellectual discussion with himself about whether zombies would find vegans tasty.

Please note that he hadn’t been to the dentist yet, so there was no Novocaine or other mind altering painkiller involved.

“see, i know the zombies won’t want to eat the vegans, as vegans tend to be all skinny and stringy and we’re generally kind of speedy. they’re going to make a b-line for vegas and eat the people standing in the buffet line. cull the herd, zombies.”

Why the concern about zombies, you ask? After experiencing his first earthquake a few days ago, Moby also experienced his first zombie escape. You can view a pic of the zombie escaping the trunk of a car on his journal.

Of course, Moby never thought to ask if zombies themselves were vegan. That fugitive zombie could just have a mean craving for sweet and sour tofu.

John Norris, MTV news correspondent, likes his candy dirty. The vegetarian restaurant in New York city, Dirt Candy, ran by Moby’s former chef Amanda Cohen, has earned his praises.

The vegan wrote about his love of Dirt Candy recently on newyork.decider.com.

“When Dirt Candy opened on East 9th Street last October, it was initially a “find.” Suffice it to say that much of the city has found it. The place is packed night after night, and for good reason: From jalapeno hush puppies to spinach soup with tofu dumplings, from carrot risotto to crispy tofu with green ragout, the restaurant boasts one of the freshest, most inventive vegetarian menus in town. Amanda Cohen, Dirt Candy’s chef/owner, boasts a résumé that includes such treasures as Angelica Kitchen, Pure Food and Wine, and the late, lamented Heirloom. And not only are all of Amanda’s dishes vegetarian, they can all be made vegan—even better. The only suggestion I would offer Dirt Candy: Triple in size! Then maybe I could get in as often as I’d like.”

Ironically, Cohen and her restaurant were criticized by some vegans when it first opened, due to some statements she made to the media about them and the food.

Looks as if John Norris doesn’t take a bit of offense!
