Here’s the perfect opportunity to use those FAQs Erin McKenna has  recently compiled for her BabyCakes cookbook.

As previously reported, McKenna has added about 20 of the most common questions or problems people have had with the recipes.

The owner of the famous bakery in New York City offering vegan, sugar-free, and gluten-free desserts has a blueberry muffins recipe that she made on Good Morning America.

If you’re out of coconut oil, don’t despair.

According to the FAQs, any other vegetable oil can be substituted in the batter. However, if you were making frosting, you’d have to use liquid coconut oil.

Vanity Fair Celebrates The 2010 Tribeca Film Festival

Martha Stewart will feature gluten-free, vegan products on her show on Thursday April 29.

Martha will host the founder of NoNuttin, a line of granola bars, snacks and baking ingredients that are dairy free, egg free, nut free and gluten free.

And according to NoNuttin’s website at NoNuttin.com, there are absolutely no animal by-products in the foods, including honey and gelatin.

The Canadian based company sent a sample of their granola bars to the producers of the Martha Stewart show who were impressed with what they tasted and decided a segment about allergy friendly granola bars would work.

Yeah, business deals often go over well when there’s a full stomach of goodness at the table.

Vegetarian Carrie Underwood Chooses Cupcakes For Wedding

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 22nd, 2010 in Business, Couples, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

Carrie Underwood and fiance Mike Fisher have ditched the traditional wedding cake and opted to be sweet tooth locavores and serve cupcakes made by a bakery near her hometown instead.

The rest of the reception menu has been decided on as well, as Carrie told Ellen DeGeneres, “We pick out food, and we know where we’re going to be. The big hurdles, but everything else we’re easy about…We don’t care.”

Because Carrie’s a vegetarian, she’s sure to have plenty of meat free options besides cupcakes.

If you’re in need of a vegan cupcake (along with sugar and gluten free), BabyCakes bakery has you covered East Coast or West.

The bakery that originated in New York City and now with a shop in LA, offers cupcakes, cookies, brownies and now even donuts that are completely free of animal products.

BabyCakes’ owner, Erin McKenna, started the company because she had multiple sensitivities to foods like wheat.

Heather Mills Almond Powder Explosion In Airport

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010 in Celebrity Tweets, Food & Drink.

The Cold Kiss - Express Black Book Screening Arrivals

Heather Mills experienced an explosion at an airport recently when the almond powder in one of her bags burst from its case, covering her clothes in whiteness.

Through a series of Tweets, Heather explained the situation, which she found funny even if airport officials didn’t.

“hilarious, vegan Almond powder exploded in case over all my clothes, then check in girl insists I lighten my case, I explained explosion occurring inside but she was adamant that i lighten my case, suffice to say, almond powder covered Stanstead airport.”

“Probably cost more to clean up than the 2 kilo overload. Saga continues through the airport but best mate ruth of 22 yrs have seen it all and laugh it off.”

The suspicious powder is not only gluten-free, but serves as an alcohol free alternative to almond extract and goes well as a non-dairy addition in coffee.

It’s also been suggested for use as a topping for oatmeal, fruit and making pie fillings taste like (prepare for horrible pun) da bomb!

Kate Nash Vegetarian With A Thing For Cheeseburgers

The MOJO Honours List 2009 - Arrivals

Kate Nash has a brand new diet to complement this month’s release of her latest album, My Best Friend Is You.

Vegetarian, dairy and gluten-free isn’t always the easiest to follow, and although Kate feels super great, she misses her favorite friend the cheeseburger.

Plus, she’s annoying. From Shockhound:

“My diet has actually changed. I’m a really annoying person now, one of those people I never thought I’d be. Because I’m allergic to wheat and dairy, and I’m a vegetarian. But my favorite food is still cheeseburgers, which is really bad. But I do feel healthier, and I don’t get any weird wheat/dairy infections, so that’s good, too.”

Somebody tell poor Kate to stock up the tour bus with a Whole Foods 365 Vegan Burger and non dairy cheese.

In a blind taste test conducted by staffers at Vegetarian Times (May/June 2006), the 365 patty was chosen as the best vegan burger and was said to have a “hearty flavor” and “go good on a grill.”

If Kate doesn’t like it, maybe her new pet rabbit Fluffy, who she’ll be taking on tour in Europe and the UK, will.

West coast vegans are jumping with joy now that one of the most popular and celebrity sought after bakeries has opened in Los Angeles.

BabyCakes LA opened its doors in California this past weekend.

BabyCakes LA is located in downtown Los Angeles at 130 East 6th Street (between S. Main Street and S. Los Angeles Street).

Offering vegan cookies, brownies, cupcakes, loaves and more, the bakery was founded in New York by Erin McKenna after she spent hours in her own kitchen formulating recipes for desserts her body could tolerate, given her numerous food sensitivities.

BabyCakes items are vegan, mostly organic and gluten-free.

Hmm…New York during the summer, sunny Cal during the winter.

It’s time to purchase an east coast/west coast time share.

Burberry Front Row: Spring/Summer 2010 - London Fashion Week

Gwyneth Paltrow has just did a double on us and made vegetarian/vegan the theme for the Make section the second week in a row on her website Goop.com.

The most recent addition features an interview with Erin McKenna, founder of celebrity adored BabyCakes NYC, a bakery specializing in sugar-free, gluten-free, vegan desserts like cupcakes and cookies.

Gwyneth’s featuring Erin’s recipes for Vanilla Frosting, Chocolate Cupcakes, Lemon Poppy Teacake, and Double Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Yum!

A few highlights from Gwyneth’s interview with Erin. Don’t forget to check out our interview with Erin when you get the chance.

GOOP: Are there any recipes you are working on that you are excited about? Or are there any old classics you are still trying to master? Will there ever be a vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free Twinkie?

Erin McKenna: I just made donuts a couple weeks ago, which was almost as exciting to me as when I came up with the frosting recipe. I LOVE donuts. I think they have the same appeal as cupcakes and evoke the same feeling. When I announced that we were now serving gluten-free, vegan, soy-free donuts at the bakery everyone lost it! Everyone went into a frenzy and one guy biked from Brooklyn through heavy rain just to try one. Luckily everyone loves them and some say it’s the best thing we make. I love it!!!!!

GOOP: Is spelt gluten-free? It is often a common misunderstanding.

Erin McKenna: Spelt is not gluten-free. It’s an ancestor to wheat and contains gluten. Some people who are wheat sensitive can tolerate spelt but not everyone.
