Stagecoach California's Country Music Festival 2008 - Day 1
Mike Ness has recorded his PSA for vegetarianism with PETA.

Mike is the front man for the rock band Social Distortion and is making a name for himself in the alterna-country scene.

“The more I got educated about cruelty and inhumane treatment… It was really a no-brainer. No one would barbecue their family dog. How is a cow or a pig different or a chicken different? They’re just as much of a gentle animal as a dog or a cat.”

“I just feel stronger, faster, cleaner, healthier.”

John Salley: Patrick Ewing Suffers Excessive Meat Consumption

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Food & Drink.

MusicMogul.com Launch Party

Whoa! John Salley just called a few players out!

Charles Barkley, Rich Mahorn, and Patrick Ewing to be exact.

These are the guys Salley thinks suffer “excessive meat consumption,” and could stand to go for veggie rehab!

From the Huffington Post:

“Most athletes have no idea how to eat. Most athletes have no idea that they’re suffering — proven fact. When you look at guys with bodies like Charles Barkley, Rich Mahorn, Patrick Ewing — you see how big Patrick Ewing’s gotten? They think when you get older you get fat. That’s not true. Not true. So it has to be that they can’t develop they can’t get rid of the … (pauses) … I went to a couple of these guys and told them I would help them.”

Oh, no he didn’t. But he should be.

On Why He Went Vegan
“I was a vegetarian until I realized that — how can I say — I don’t eat the animal but I eat the things that come out of the animal’s ass; the egg. I mean, people eat the spoiled milk of a cow that a calf won’t even eat. I mean a cow won’t even drink that and I’m feeding it to my kids? That’s crazy. So I decided I wasn’t doing that. I gave that up.”

Call it the “brownest” celebrity edition. In honor of Earth Day, Foxnews wrote an article on celebrities who’ve had less than green moments and two of our favorite veggie celebs, Woody Harrelson and Paul McCartney were on the list. Woody had clothing flown from California to France and Paul had his car flown from Japan. So between the two eco bad boys, who would you rather do…?

Jonathan Slavin: Better Off Ted’s Other Gay Vegan

Jonathan Slavin

Jonathan Slavin

Jonathan Slavin plays a nerdy research scientist on the ABC television series Better Off Ted.

You may recall us telling you that one of the best know vegan lesbians, Portia de Rossi, stars on the show as well.

But Portia isn’t the only gay/lesbian on the set of Better Off Ted who leaves cheese off her pizza if the cast and crew are ordering in. Plus, Portia’s forced to make room for him at their home when he has pizza with Ellen.

“Ellen’s been amazingly supportive of the show, so we all got together and watched the premiere there,” Slavin told Advocate.com. “They have a beautiful home that’s first and foremost a home; it feels very comfortable. There was lots of vegan pizzas, and vegan this, vegan that. I never go to a dinner party where I can eat everything on the table, so I was thrilled.”

Slavin, who’s been working as an actor since the early 90s, has played roles in Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Caroline in the City, Wings, and My Name Is Earl.

Visit advocate.com to read what Slavin has to say about Hollywood and his sexuality and how Zac Effron and Jesse McCartney are not cute.

“Those are still little boys to me.”

Emily Deschanel, Rory Freedman Share Vegan Earth Day Date Idea

Gretchen Ryan's "Little Pretty" Exhibition Opening

Happy Earth Day! Do you have big plans?

Bones actress Emily Deschanel and Skinny Bitch author Rory Freedman described to Chloe Jo of the Girlie Girl Army their idea of the perfect Earth Day friend date.

It involves trapezes and vegan food. Hopefully, they’d wait awhile after eating the vegan food and getting on the trapeze.

Rory Freedman: First stop: trapeze school on the Santa Monica pier! It’s one version of man-made fun that doesn’t leave any carbon footprint. You swing around in the air confronting your fear of heights and bodily harm. It’s an amazing workout where you get to be outside, enjoy the fresh air, see the ocean, feel young, and get manhandled by hot guys. When we’re done playing Circus of the Stars, we can go stuff our faces at Golden Mean Cafe, the new vegan spot in Santa Monica that’s all the buzz. The food is ridiculously good, there’s an upstairs mediation/reading room, the space is really Zen (the walls are infused with crushed quartz crystal, selenite, mica, gold, and incense), and the owner and head chef couldn’t be sweeter.

Emily Deschanel: Ooh I can’t wait! I’ve been dying to do trapeze school, and I haven’t been to that restaurant yet!! You know we both love vegan food!!! I wonder what the crystals in the walls will do for us.. We’ll probably feel all centered and new-age-y.

Pamela Anderson Getting RAW With Her Own Fragrance Line

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 in Actresses, Cosmetics And Beauty Products.

Pamela Anderson at the Millionaire Fair in Amsterdam

Pamela Anderson has been running and hitting the pavement at full speed lately.

She recently collaborated with Richie Rich to develop a cruelty-free clothing and shoe line, Muse. She hinted (if even humorously) at a cooking television show where women make vegetarian food in bikinis.

Now, she’s coming out with her own brand of fragrance.

From her blog, Pammie writes:

“Finally a company with a heart—so glad we found each other- a company in Florida looks promising- I have developed a line of natural body fragrances and have more products to come- first fragrance is Raw by pamela…company is called pamela- super enviro-conscious, cruelty free- yummy-natural- very sexy fragrance I wear every day- will be available this summer—department stores, drug stores, affordable choices- I want to sell where I shop— nothing too fancy— Keep the Country COUNTRY!”

How cool it will be to get inexpensive, vegan fragrances at the local drug or grocery store!

But she’s not done yet. There’s also talk of a beauty drink under the same RAW brand, which stands for “Real Activist Wild.”

Go Pamela!

Damien Fahey Hosts The TRL Wrap Party

John Norris, MTV news correspondent, likes his candy dirty. The vegetarian restaurant in New York city, Dirt Candy, ran by Moby’s former chef Amanda Cohen, has earned his praises.

The vegan wrote about his love of Dirt Candy recently on newyork.decider.com.

“When Dirt Candy opened on East 9th Street last October, it was initially a “find.” Suffice it to say that much of the city has found it. The place is packed night after night, and for good reason: From jalapeno hush puppies to spinach soup with tofu dumplings, from carrot risotto to crispy tofu with green ragout, the restaurant boasts one of the freshest, most inventive vegetarian menus in town. Amanda Cohen, Dirt Candy’s chef/owner, boasts a résumé that includes such treasures as Angelica Kitchen, Pure Food and Wine, and the late, lamented Heirloom. And not only are all of Amanda’s dishes vegetarian, they can all be made vegan—even better. The only suggestion I would offer Dirt Candy: Triple in size! Then maybe I could get in as often as I’d like.”

Ironically, Cohen and her restaurant were criticized by some vegans when it first opened, due to some statements she made to the media about them and the food.

Looks as if John Norris doesn’t take a bit of offense!
