Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 11th, 2009 in Fashion.

Stella McCartney Switches On Store Christmas Lights

Some things just sound too good to be true.

Like the rumor that Stella McCartney and Morrissey, two longtime vegetarians, are teaming up to design a leather-free shoe.

Negative.

Says official Stella McCartney Fan Page on Facebook:

“Stella is a fan of Morrissey but those rumors of a collaboration for a shoe line are simply not true.”

There’s really no other way to put it but as another fan did:

“bummer XX”

Con-Sole (pun intended) yourselves by buying a pair of leather free shoes from Vegetarian Shoes or Veganchic.com.

NSF & GQ Magazine's Stop Puppy Mills Humane Society Benefit

Who would have thought that Skinny Bitch co-author Rory Freedman isn’t a big fan of writing.

“I hate writing,” Rory said. “There are a million other things I’d rather be doing. I write because I have to.”

With bestselling books under her belt like Skinny Bitch, Skinny Bitch in the Kitch and not to mention Skinny Bastard, Rory sure does a good job at something she’s not crazy about.

But Rory revealed that her motivation for never putting down the pen is the same for pushing away the meat and dairy.

“My unwavering dedication to vegetarianism was solely because of the animals—I could not and would not call myself an “animal lover” while contributing to their torture and slaughter.”

“Because if I feel so strongly about what is happening to animals, and I don’t do anything to help them, who will?”

What’s your motivation for going vegetarian?

Meatless Mouthful–Alicia Silverstone Gets Nasty

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 11th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Meatless Mouthful.

Alicia Silverstone The Kind Diet Book Launch Party

“Among the “nasty” foods is white sugar (and its friend high fructose corn and syrup). Simply put, you should just consider it crack, only sliiiiightly less addictive. White sugar leeches vitamins and minerals from your blood and bones, messes with your immune system, leads to insulin resistance, and makes you feel crazy-extreme peaks and dips in blood sugar can cause nausea, headaches and fatigue, irritability, anxiety, dizziness, heart palpitations, crying and depression. And it makes us fat.”

—-Alicia Silverstone, in an interview with Planet Green, giving examples of what she calls “nasty” foods in her book, The Kind Diet.

Paul McCartney gives a press conference at the European Parliament - Brussels

Vegetarians may be excited about Paul McCartneys Meat-Free Monday initiative, but not everyone is welcoming the singer’s push to save the planet through less meat.

During a debate at the recent European Union Parliament, McCartney went head to head with MEP Mairead McGuinness.

And although McGuinness never threatened to shock her children like Gordon Ramsay did, she made it clear she doesn’t think a veggie burger a day keeps the emissions away.

“Getting rid of livestock from the planet as a solution to climate change is too far-fetched and unrealistic a proposition to be credible,” McGuinness said.

“Research shows that a change in European diets with considerably less dairy and meat products would have only a marginal impact on the environment,” she added.

Okay. But the meat industry does produce more emissions than all forms of transportation combined.

“Lastly, those of us who enjoy a roast on Sunday and who hope to continue to do so, would never even consider a meat free Monday.”

Ah, might as well skip the roast the next day.

Leftovers are never as good as hot from the oven anyway.

Jenna Ushkowitz and Dianna Agron share the set of the hot new Fox television show Glee.

Wonder if they also share snacks between scenes.

Both vegetarians, sources say Dianna is a supporter of PETA and Jenna devoured Tofurky this past Thanksgiving.

Obviously both would have no problem singing for their vegetarian supper.

So between the two Glee stars, who would you rather do…

Lisa Origliasso of Australian pop-rock band The Veronicas arrives at the Rock & Roll Glitter Birthday Party in Sydney

Half of the pop duo The Veronicas really likes to get her vegan nacho fix on at Real Food Daily.

Last month, Lisa Origliasso Tweeted:

Is in LOVE with the vegan nachos at @realfooddaily everyone needs to go try them <3

And more recently, she Tweeted about RFD nachos again, in case the fans forgot:

Had the best vegan nachos at @realfooddaily…

Obviously, Real Food Daily’s got some great dairy-free grub, but if you can’t make it there, head to your closest natural foods store or go online and order Teese Vegan Nacho Cheese from Chicago Soy Dairy (and pick up some of their vegan ice cream or marshmallows while you’re at it).

You’ll get the best damn at home nacho cheese experience.

“Eclipse” Bryce Dallas Howard Diet Not Like Taylor Lautner

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 9th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

"Terminator Salvation" Japan Premiere

Bryce Dallas Howard is reportedly taking steps to slim down for the cameras that will be spotlighting her during the Eclipse press tour that begins June 2010.

Howard’s plan includes using a detox cleansing system and avoiding oils.

“Bryce is not looking to lose 20 pounds,” says her rep, Stephen Huvane, according to eonline.com.

“She does cleanse from time to time, but the one you describe is not at all what she has done in the past or has any plans to do,” Huvane added in regards to a stringent plan described by the source.

Regardless of how Howard will lose the undesired pounds, one thing’s for sure–she won’t be using any Taylor Lautner tactics to get there.

Howard is a vegetarian, who used to be a vegan, until pregnancy made her switch back, fearing she’d lose essential nutrients required while carrying a child.

To get his ripped abs and V hips, Lautner became a meat and sweet potato addict, even carrying baggies of the “drug” around to get his fix every few hours.

“Yeah, so I carry around a Baggie and it has meat patties in it,” Lautner told Entertainment Weekly.

“The worst is not the patties. It’s the sweet potatoes. They get raw and cold and gushy.”

Eww. The worst is having to listen to Lautner describe his carnivorous vice.

Best of luck to Howard.

Bet fans can’t wait to see her on the Eclipse tour next year!
