Quantcast Vegetarian Starcelebrity and vegetarian (149)

23rd Annual Genesis Awards - ArrivalsActress Jorja Fox hung out with the folks at GreenWithGlamour.com for their seasonal celebrity photoshoot and the crew enjoyed munching on vegan goodies, like curried mango and tempeh sandwiches.

Jorja was a multi-tasker that day as after the photo shoot she put on PETA t-shirt to pose for yet another photo campaign, this time to end the clubbing of Canadian seals.

Back to that tempeh recipe…Yum, yum, yum.

These sandwiches sound pretty simple to make, with chunks of mango and sliced scallions tossed into a pita with tempeh cubes and a dressing containing vegan mayo, curry, and lime.

Not to mention a nice food porn picture to give you something to salivate to.

Visit greenwithglamour.com to view pictures of Jorja from the photoshoot.

And please let us know how your tempeh sandwiches turned out!

“I was asked today ‘Are you a vegan or a vegetarian?’ and I said, ‘I’m vegan’ and a lot people call that ‘pure’ vegetarian. I don’t call it that because it sounds as if you have to go to church and you can’t drink and that would cripple my lifestyle terribly because in my work you sometimes need something to comfort you, and it’s not necessarily church.”

Brigitte Bardot Lobbies to Save Romanian Dogs
Brigitte Bardot is the latest celebrity to get in on the debate between pigs and swine flu.

The actress turned animal rights activist has publicly denounced the Egyptian government’s plans to cull 250,000 pigs to help combat the swine flu epidemic, which some have linked to factory farming of the animals.

In a letter to Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak, Bardot wrote:

“Taking advantage of the global hysteria over the propagation of ‘Mexican’ flu, which has nothing to do with animals, in order to launch a campaign to exterminate pigs raised by a destitute section of the population is extremely cowardly.”

2009 GRAMMY Salute To Industry Icons: Clive Davis - ShowWhat a way to ruin an otherwise beautiful spring afternoon.

It appears that Kelly Clarkson is no longer vegetarian, according to reports from her management company, Starstruck Management Group.

“She’s not a vegetarian,” said Trisha McClanahan of Starstruck. “She’s been a vegetarian in the past, but currently she’s not.”

We’re thinking Thanksgiving may have something to do with it.

From Kelly’s blog about Thanksgiving with her relatives, it sounds like she may have given in to temptation.

“i’ve been hanging with family during the holidays and i made my first turkey with my sister this year ….which is kind of hilarious seeing as how i haven’t eaten meat in over a year, but it was fun to make. and by fun, i mean our turkey was awesome and everything but i’ll never do it again. it was freakin’ exhausting!!

If the turkey was “awesome,” Kelly probably was gobbling it up, and the fact that she mentioned she hadn’t eaten meat in over a year suggests she recently tried it again.

Darn holidays. Relatives, long shopping lines, and tempting birds on the table.

On another sad note, unlike some Internet rumors were saying, her management confirmed that Kelly didn’t cancel her appearance at the Calgary Stampede because she was morally opposed to the treatment of animals in rodeos. Clarkson only cancelled because she wants to include Calgary at a later date on her tour.

Goode Family Dog Che Helps Control Pet Population

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 in Humor, Misc Artists and Performers.

Spaying and neutering are highly effective ways to control the unwanted pet population. Having a vegan dog secretly munch on neighborhood animals is another.

Mike Judge, creator of Beavis and Butt-Head and King of The Hill, is shedding some satirical light on political correctness in the 21st century with The Goode Family.

The Goodes do everything a stereotypical liberal, educated family does, including recycling and even attempt to adopt a baby from Africa.

Every Goode is a vegan, including the family dog, Che. However, Che isn’t too thrilled about his diet and secretly munches on stray animals in the neighborhood when no one is looking, as you’ll witness is the above video.

The Goode Family premiers on ABC May 27th.

Poet Benjamin Zephaniah recently interviewed with the UK Times Online and revealed when he visits China, he’s often challenged in several ways, including his vegan diet.

“When I got to China I found I was being challenged in really interesting ways. For instance, I always believed that everybody in China had only one child. But I kept meeting people with six children. And it’s challenging being a vegan in China, like I am — but the best vegan restaurant I’ve come across in the world is in Beijing.”

Sure wish Benjamin had mentioned that awesome vegan restaurant in Beijing. It might come in handy for some of you international travelers.

Have you had any overseas veg dieting challenges?

20th Century Fox World Premiere of The X-Files: I Want To BelieveGillian Anderson would like the X Files on animal abuse in testing laboratories closed forever.

The actress has personally written a letter to every Member of the European Parliament (MEB), asking they take steps necessary to protect animals involved in research.

The Parliament is considering a law that could improve the conditions of laboratory animals in Europe.

Gillian is insistent that the law contain the following protections for animals:

• Promote effective, humane and relevant methods to replace animal experiments. This must be at the heart of EU policy.

• Ensure that no experiments are conducted on animals unless a licence is issued by government authorities in advance (this is already the law in many European countries and is vital for animals’ protection).

• Ensure that no animal is ever exposed to severe, prolonged pain.

• Make real progress towards ending the use of all non-human primates in experiments and take decisive
