Comments Off on Alexa Chung Does “Thrift America” In New PBS Series (Video)
Alexa Chung is caught in yet another moral dichotomy. She likes collecting dead things even though she considers herself vegetarian. And she loves her husband and her lover because they both are incredibly stylish.
“Williamsburg is sort of like my lover, whereas London is more like my husband. I love my husband, and I’ll always be with him, but Williamsburg is so exciting.”
Thank goodness you can’t cheat when shopping, cause Chung will be perusing many vintage stores on her upcoming PBS series “Thrift America,” scheduled to air next summer.
Consignment shops, Goodwill, The Salvation Army, you name it, are all great places to lighten your footprint by taking advantage of what’s already created instead of contributing to the demand for more clothing–and more fibers, energy and unless they’re organic, more pesticides used on the crops, like cotton.
But are they a place for old furs? If you’ve given up that lifestyle, is it okay to let potentially less fortunate people or those that aren’t buying new fur coats display them? Or would you feel more comfortable donating the piece to an animal who the fur might look a little more natural on?
Comments Off on Alexa Chung Sets Animal Unfriendly Fashion Trend
She’s been great at setting trends for faux fur, but it would be even better if Alexa Chung got into pleather.
In January, Mulberry launched a bag named after Chung that, according to The Stylist, already has a wait list.
Mulberry chairman Godfrey Davis told the Evening Standard: “It’s clearly helpful for sales when someone like Alexa is carrying your bag.”
The Alexa bag from Mulberry looks gorgeous, but the “detachable and adjustable leather shoulder strap” makes it less than ideal for a hip vegetarian gal.
Would it be possible to get Alexa caught by the paparazzi sporting a more cruelty-free bag?
The Mirror reports that several celebrities are jumping on the faux fur bandwagon and Alexa Chung may be the trendsetter to thank, due to her taking an interest in faux leopard print fur.
Thank goodness Alexa’s into not wearing the hide of animals, even if they are the animals that she hates.
But should vegetarians and even meat eating animal lovers be sporting fake fur?
Respect For Animals representatives insist that wearing faux fur will, “keep alive the idea that wearing fur is acceptable and fashionable, when it is neither”.
Perhaps faux wearing folks should come with a name tag that reads, “I’m a phony.”
Glee stars Dianna Agron and Lea Michele were caught outside the MTV studios after appearing on It’s On with host Alexa Chung.
Looks like Dianna said “It’s On” with fur before heading outside the studios.
If Dianna’s wearing fur, her lack of compassion for animals makes a stark contrast to her co-star Lea, who can be seen in an ad urging people to boycott horse drawn carriage rides.
But maybe she takes her compassion advice from Alexa, who, although is also vegetarian, doesn’t mind killing the animals she hates.
Geez.
Take a look and decide for yourself.
Will we be singing with glee after we discover vegetarian Dianna’s wearing a fake fur coat? Or is she way off key and wearing a cruel real one?

Comments Off on Stella McCartney “Harper’s Bazaar Best Dressed Woman” 2009
Stella McCartney has been named Harper’s Bazaar Best Dressed Woman of 2009.
Stella was chosen by a panel of fashion experts that included designers Roland Mouret, Christopher Kane and Christian Louboutin, and The Guardian columnist Hadley Freeman and Lucy Yeomans, editor of Harper’s Bazaar.
“Stella articulates the values of her mother Linda, and creates sexy clothes that women want to wear. She dresses for herself and her husband – I really like that,” said Mouret.
Speaking of values, Stella’s make her the best dressed on our list too, as the vegetarian fashion designer not only refuses to wear leather and fur, but keeps these materials out of her fashion collections.
