Green Music Group is a group of musicians, industry leaders and fans dedicated to spreading the environmental news throughout the industry.

Every two weeks on their website, Green Music Group, will present a challenge to fans and from now until June 18, Guster is challenging their fans to eat local at least once a day.

Lead singer and founding member of Green Music Group, Adam Gardner, speaks in the video.

“I feel personally connected to this challenge because I just recently joined a community supported agricultural program. And it was just amazing how much better the food tasted. The fact that I knew who was growing it, I met the farmer and knew that I was supporting that local farmer and that local economy just felt good to do.”

Gardner’s got a point about the taste. Compare fresh, local, crisp green beans to those brought halfway across the country or frozen or in a can.

No competition!

Once you try eating local, we promise, as Guster would say, “Fa Fa-Fa Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa,” it will “never be the same again.”

Jenna Jameson has recorded a PSA for PETA for their McCruelty “I’m Hatin’ It” campaign against McDonald’s for the fast food giant’s refusal to switch to a less painful method of slaughtering its chickens, Controlled Atmosphere Killing.

In addition to Jameson’s PSA below, there is an interview session where she encourages people to make small differences in their lives by at least reducing the amounts of animal based products they consume.

“You don’t have to become a vegetarian if it’s too much for you. Just small steps. Cut out the (chicken) nuggets. Cut out leather products.”

“Most people out there have compassion for animals. And you don’t really have to watch the things that make you cry or hurt you, but for me that’s what changed me. I needed to watch those things,” she says regarding footage of animals in factory farms and slaughter houses, which made her boycott McDonald’s.

New Soy Meat Tastes, Feels, Tears Just Like Chicken. (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 in Business, Food & Drink, Videos.

A new soy product has been created that is touted to be closer to the texture of real chicken than its predecessors.

Developed by University of Missouri scientists, the product is said to not only taste like chicken, but looks like it and tears apart in your mouth like the real bird.

The University must still sell the technology to a food company, so it may be awhile before the almost real deal made of soy, wheat gluten, oil and water makes it to a grocery store near you

An Evening with 'Parks and Recreation'

Aziz Ansari, star of the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation will be hosting this year’s MTV Movie Awards. From an interview with the New York Times, it sounds as if Ansari might be a vegan.

“Mr. Ansari made no apologies to the crowd at the theater, where the $5 tickets were cheaper and the jokes more meandering than they would be at those future gigs. As he had said that afternoon over lunch at a vegan restaurant in the Silver Lake neighborhood, “I even tell the audience, ‘You’re getting an inferior version of the joke so, I can work on it myself.”

Here’s a video from the Funny or Die series with Sarah Silverman, P. Diddy and other celebrities discussing Aziz’s life and the “struggles” he’s had to endure before rising to stardom to host the MTV Movie Awards.

Earthlings has inspired many to go vegetarian and rethink their ideas about animals being used for human convenience. The director of the film, Shaun Monson, attended the World Fest 2010, an Earth Day festival in Los Angeles, California where he was briefly interviewed on vegetarianism, myths about protein and more.

Monson also touches on how humans have empathy for some creatures, like other humans and pets, but not farm animals.

“I suspect that if we view any expression of life with apathy that will mirror itself in humanity,” Monson says and cites a quote from Leo Tolstoy that says, “As long as their are slaughterhouses, there will be battlefields,” tying the link between killing animals and aggressive and general malcontent humans have towards other humans.

Meat affects on health, and more, this guy doesn’t miss a beat!

Poker player Annie LePage makes raw mango and coconut sushi in this video where rice is substituted for a nut pate in the recipe.

LePage has her daughter to thank for going vegan, as she says in a new PETA PSA for vegetarianism.

Given the fact she has children, LePage is extremely upset that companies like McDonald’s market their less than healthy and cruelly sourced products to kids.

“If kids really saw what goes on behind the scene, instead of that silly clown, I don’t think they would want to eat it so much,” she says in the PSA, which can be seen below. Grab a pen and jot down the ingredients to the veggie sushi, which are displayed across the screen as LePage prepares it.

Stephen Colbert made a segment on a recent episode of The Colbert Report highlighting bull fighting and the accident involving well known bull fighter Julio Aparicio being critically injured when the bull thrust his horn through Aparicio’s neck, which then poked through the matador’s mouth.

“A word of warning to my sensitive viewers. I’m about to show you a bull fight so gory that a bull’s horn comes out of his mouth,” Colbert says. “If you have young children…bring them into the room. Unless you want them to be bull fighters.”

Colbert does offer condolences and hopes Aparicio gets well and that he owns a “lot of turtle necks.”

Local politicians in the Catalonia region of Spain are set to vote on a proposal that would ban the bloody and cruel sport.

A finalist in Britain’s Got Talent sustains her energy by following a vegetarian, organic diet.

She’s also enjoys being petted by fans.

Twelve year old Chandi is the dog of 37-year old Tina Humphrey from Shropshire, and the two are finalists in the talent reality TV show, with Chandi carrying the bulk of the talent.

It should come as no surprise that Chandi will only eat meatless–organic vegetables and cheese, because that’s what all serious professional athletes do.

“She’s on an organic raw food diet too – she is an athlete after all,” Humphrey told The Sun.

Chandi’s favorite treat is mild cheddar and although the brand can vary, it’s imperative that it’s organic.

Wonder if Chandi lets off less rear end steam due to her diet, like Alicia Silverstone‘s dogs did when they went veg.
