Meatless Mouthful: Why Ellen DeGeneres Went Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 in Meatless Mouthful, TV Hosts.

23rd Annual Genesis Awards - Press Room

“I personally chose to go vegan because I educated myself on factory farming and cruelty to animals, and I suddenly realized that what was on my plate were living things, with feelings. And I just couldn’t disconnect myself from it any longer. I read books like “Diet for a New America” and saw documentaries like “Earthlings” and “Meet your Meat,” and it became an easy choice for me.”

“If you choose to educate yourself, it’ll be an easy choice for you, too. Click here to take a look at a variety of reasons for living a vegan life.”

—-Ellen DeGeneres, on her television show website, where she not only shares her reasons for going veg, but gives videos of cooking demonstrations, recipes, examples of plant based proteins and more to help her fans learn about the diet and lifestyle.

It’s easy to see why this woman won favorite vegetarian celebrity.

Jillian Michaels Wears "Fight Breedism" T-Shirt

Jillian Michaels is quite the multi-promoter.

The Biggest Loser coach was spotted sporting a PETA Fight Breedism t-shirt.

What’s even more cool is that Jillian is standing in front of a Subway restaurant–and highlighting healthier alternatives to fast food.

Jillian is almost veg–saying she consumes some fish here and there.

We’re crossing our fingers she’ll follow the lead of Biggest Loser co-star Bob Harper and go veg completely one day.

Author Jonathan Safran Foer was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show recently to talk about his latest book, Eating Animals.

Jonathan touched on the fact that most people aren’t aware of the conditions of factory farms.

“Unfortunately this image that we have of a farm has created a distance between our values and our actions,” Jonathan says.

“We continue to believe that the meat on our plate comes from these idealyc places. I wish that it did, but it doesn’t.”

Watch the entire video to feel the veg vibe as the two vegans chit chat.

Oprah Winfrey Gets Faux Real With Stylist On Show

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 in Fashion, Fur, TV Hosts.

2009 AFI Film Festival Premiere of Precious

On a recent segment of Oprah Winfrey‘s show, a fashion stylist made over several women and compared the before and after look.

When the stylist commented that the fur vest on the woman for her “after” look was fake, Oprah replied, “I was a PETA Woman of the Year so I hope that’s faux!”

Oprah won such an award for using her fame to bring attention to puppy mills and factory farms.

Hats off to O for letting her viewers know fur’s not stylish by any means.

Oprah’s just keeping it faux real, you know?

Glenn Beck To Al Gore–Eat Tofu, Save The Planet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 in Politicians, TV Hosts, Videos.

Glenn Beck recently highlighted the importance of reducing meat consumption to prevent further destruction of the environment.

Beck called out Al Gore for not aggressively addressing the problem and encouraging environmentalists to become at least part time vegetarians and they are full time Prius drivers.

Beck began with a quote from U.K.’s climate chief Lord Stern:

“Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the world’s resources. A vegetarian diet is better.”

Although he poo pooed the idea of Meatless Mondays in some schools (some blah blah about forcing a lifestyle on someone), Beck then demanded that Gore put his burger down and demand other environmentalist do the same.

And…gulp. Beck says he sides with PETA.

“That’s why I am siding with PETA on this one — once again asking Al Gore: If you really want to save the planet, put down the cheeseburgers and pick up the veggie burgers. Time for soy milk and to-furkey. No more delicious chocolate cookies — how about a nice bean-thing. That is, if you want to save the planet.”

“I’ve said before I disagree with PETA, but I respect them because they are not hypocrites: They say what they mean and mean what they say. I just disagree with what they say — except when it calls for Al Gore to eat tofu.”

This guy’s starting to grow on us. Not only is he not a frog killer, but he respects vegetarianism.

Will Beck soon produce a conservative’s porn dream and strip down to his naughties saying “I’d rather go naked than keep destroying the planet?”

Bob Barker Drury U “Dorothy Jo Barker Professorship Animal Rights”

Bob Barker Signs Copies Of "Priceless Memories"

Bob Barker has donated a million dollars to his alma mater, Drury University, to establish a program for animal rights, the Dorothy Jo Barker Professorship for Animal Rights.

Named after his late wife Dorothy, the program will offer studies on various animal rights issues.

“At the very least, the students who take this class will have more respect for animals,” said Barker.

“It’s taught by 6 professors all experts in their field,” said professor Dr. Patricia McEachern. “There’s no other class like this in the United States”

This isn’t the first time Barker has teamed up a higher education institute to educate others about animal welfare.

Earlier this year, Bob donated a million dollars to the University of Virginia Law school to establish an animal law program.

Sigh. A million here. A million there. Bet the animals are thankful they’ve got a wealthy man on their side.

Kudos to Bob! Keep up the great work!

Alexa Chung Dead Animal Fetish

2009 Whitney Museum Gala - Arrivals

MTV‘s Alexa Chung has just admitted she likes to collect dead animals.

The British TV host is vegetarian, but that’s the only place she keeps dead flesh away.

“[I collect] dead things, but I’m a vegetarian, so it’s a bit hard,” Chung said.

“I got a dead alligator head in New Orleans.”

It gets creepier, as Alexa reveals that certain animals are on her “hit list” anyway.

“I don’t mind if I hate the animal.”

“Alligators and spiders I don’t mind being dead.”

Huh?

What’s this, some weird “Don’t kill the cute animals” set of principles?
