People's Choice Awards 2010 - Show

Out magazine has compiled its annual “Most Influential Gay Men and Women” and vegan Ellen DeGeneres is number one on the list.

Besides her presence on television and activism for gay rights, Ellen’s impact on the animal rights movement is touched on as well in Out’s short description of why she topples the competition.

From Out:

“A passionate advocate for marriage equality, an avid opponent of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” and staunch defender of animal rights, DeGeneres’s enormous platform is many an American’s gain.”

Other notables who’ve made or are making contributions to the vegetarian and animal community are Project Runway’s Tim Gunn, who recorded an anti-fur PSA and frowns upon contestants who attempt to use it in competition.

Also, representative Jared Polis, who recently introduced the Healthy School Meals Act that will hopefully introduce more meat free and non dairy beverage options in school districts, is in the top 10.

Pamela Anderson was recently on Larry King Live when Larry King asked Pamela what she thought about the SeaWorld tragedy several weeks ago where a trainer was killed by an animal.

King: Do you think there should be SeaWorlds?

Anderson: I don’t think there should be SeaWorlds. Of course not. They should not be in captivity at all.

A viewer from Facebook told King to ask Pamela what she eats to stay looking so great and Pamela got into her discussion on what a vegetarian and vegan is.

She also talked about her new celebrity signature vegan milkshake at Millions of Milkshakes in Santa Monica, California.

The SeaWorld conversation begins around minute 2:20.

Ellen DeGeneres "Shape"

Ellen DeGeneres "Shape"

In this month’s issue of Shape, Ellen DeGeneres reveals that although today it’s all about eating vegan, years ago she was a horrible eater, downing anything from cheeseburgers to steak.

“I can’t believe how irresponsible I was, eating what I ate,” she said. “All I did was eat. Cheeseburgers, fried chicken, fried things.”

Today she doesn’t starve herself, but consumes copious amounts of anything that grows in the ground, a prescription of “no animals, no dairy, nothing processed; a lot of soup, veggies, rice, beans, legumes.”

She opts for healthier fried “things,” as she revealed her breakfast for the morning of the interview as a “bok choy rice stir-fry thing.”

“I want to be on my toes; I want to have energy,” she added. “And as much as the diet seems like a sacrifice, it’s helping me.”

Dr. Oz Wife Lisa “The View” Grew Up Organic, Whole Grains (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 14th, 2010 in Food & Drink, TV Hosts, Videos.

Dr. Oz‘s fit, sexy and lovely wife Lisa recently appeared on The View with her husband, where she explained how she’s been a vegetarian since aged 15.

Dr. Oz gets shamed as Lisa “outs” him on the show, revealing how the daytime guru of health used to eat crap before meeting the woman of his life.

“I grew up with brown rice, whole grains, all organic. I’ve been vegetarian since I was 15.”

Sounds like Dr. Oz needs to invite his lady to the show more often for segments!

Laura Ingraham hosted In Defense of Animal’s Hope Bohanec and the two discussed San Francisco’s recent declaration of observing Meatless Monday in the city.

Ingraham called the movement “elitist” and suggested other issues such as workers’ wages were more pressing.

While it’s true that economic problems may be a great threat now, promoting less meat certainly isn’t subtracting any funds or time devoted to those issues, as the movement is being promoted by small groups devoted to the interest and no one is being taxed for their hamburgers.

Hope mentions that eating just two meals a week vegetarian has a greater environmental impact than buying all food locally.

Ingraham responds with data of her own, saying the whole methane gas from cow farts study was exaggerated.

Watch the debate and decide for yourself.

Simon Cowell's Sweet Afternoon With Mezhgan Hussainy!

Simon Cowell is worried about his thighs before his big wedding to Mezhgan Hussainy.

The X Factor and American Idol judge has been reportedly drinking several fruit and vegetable mix shakes every day in an effort to slim down.

Cowell has lost 12 pounds from his homemeade V8 efforts.

According to The Mirror, Cowell said, “I am vain. I’m obsessed with my weight,” which explains why he has no issues downing 200 ml mixes of “spinach and banana” drinks.

Not that Popeye’s food and Chiquita Organic aren’t good.

But as a couple, their compatibility is questionable.

Admittedly, the drinks sound like a great way to get servings of produce in, especially for a guy who’s so committed to bettering the environment, he’s giving Meat Free Mondays a try.

And all the good looking gents are doing this, as Peter Max can’t get enough of his salad in a glass either.

Cesar Millan, renowned dog expert and star of the National Geographic Channel’s Dog Whisperer, is the spokesperson for the Pet Adoptathon, an event taking place on May 1 and May 2 at more than 2,000 animal shelters around the world.

The event originally began as a North Shore Animal League program as a way to find homes for animals at its shelter.

The League began inviting other shelters to do the same and 16 years later, more than 300,000 animals have found homes through the Adoptathon.

Millan says the rescue effort is mutual and by inviting a shelter pet into their homes, humans live more fulfilling, happier lives.

“Millions of many wonderful animals end up in shelters each year, and adoption provides these animals their second chance at life. The act of adopting a dog creates balance and completeness in our lives by fulfilling the need in every human of contribution, if only for a moment. Really, who is saving who?”

The Adoptahon promotes the adoption of mixed breeds, called Mutt-i-grees by the organization, which make up the majority of pets that are euthanized each year.
