Emily Deschanel‘s co-star on Bones’, David Boreanaz, was a guest at the ceremony and reception for the actress’ recent wedding. Boreanz said the food featured some lovely seitan imitating chicken, which lead to a hilarious discussion of vegan weddings (did she marry a man from Venus) and whether or not food was incorporated into the ceremony to make it vegan.

Deschanel managed to convince Boreanz to eat vegetarian at least once a week.

NASHVILLE, TN - DECEMBER 02: Football fans eat food from the tailgate of their truck prior to the start of the NFL game between the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans on December 02, 2007 at LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee. Born and bred into American sporting culture the act of tailgating is a tradition practiced unlike anywhere else in the world. Tailgating by definition is the act of partying or picnicking around a vehicle in a car park prior to the start of a sporting event. At any major sporting event in the United States you will find die hard fans, all settling into car parks surrounding the stadium, hours before the event even begins. Tailgaters, young and old drink, play games, barbeque and party, rain, hail or snow and often in unusual places, just about anywhere it?s possible to park a car and setup a barbeque. What started as a small pre-game picnic held out of the back of a pickup truck has now evolved into a multibillion-dollar business, with participant numbers estimated at over 50 million over the course of a season. The tailgating industry has taken off, with thousands of websites devoted to tailgating, a magazine, a convention and even its own trade association. Specialized tailgating equipment such as trailers fully equipped with everything from full bar facilities, specially designed cooking areas, flat screen TV?s, toilets, satellite dishes and generators have also been introduced. Tailgating has become as much of a sport as the football games it was born around, so much so many fans turn up just to tailgate and never even see the inside of the stadium. TLC’s Freaky Eaters features Dr. Dow and JJ Virgin coming to the intervention of people with some strange and dangerous eating compulsions. There’s a young lady who needs 30 cans of cola a day. The cheeseburger addict. And tonight at 7PM, there’s Daniel, a young man who is compelled to eat raw meat.

Listening to Daniel describe this obsession with phrases like “one of those quiet things where you do it on your own” and “this is nice.”, one could almost make frat boy jokes about the pastime that didn’t start until he left the confines of his parents’ home.

However, eating raw meat is no joke and Daniel is putting himself at risk for consuming harmful bacteria and becoming ill with infections like Trichinellosis, also called trichinosis, which result in eating uncooked meat. Not that the stuff’s any healthier cooked…

From TLC:

“Using intense nutritional and behavioral therapy, they attempt to convince Daniel to give up his life-threatening obsession before it’s too late.”

A clip from a man who eats approximately 1,400 cheeseburgers a year is below.

Dating In The Dark

Dating in the Dark is getting rave reviews from Vegetarian Star this season just because they’re doing such a good job of showcasing meatless babes.

Earlier in the season, the show that lets couples get to know each other in a dark room (ha, ha, not what you’re thinking) to see if they’re compatible without taking looks into account featured a swim instructor who was vegetarian for ethical reasons.

And most recently, the show had two meatless gals, Kayla, a vegan and Kahleel, a vegetarian, trying to score carrots with the men on the show.

Kayla is the stereotypical preachy vegan who wants everybody on organic, whole grain seitan while Kahleel is happy to have people skip the chicken for faux nuggets.

What’s could possibly go wrong? The two veggies want the same guy! Who wins? Watch the episode below to find out.

“Skin Trade” DVD On Fur Industry Available In September (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 6th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Fashion, Film & TV, Fur, Videos.

Skin Trade, a documentary on what goes on behind the scenes in the fur industry, is scheduled to be available on DVD September 14th, 2010.

Produced by Shannon Keith, animal rights attorney and founder of Animal Rescue, Media & Education (ARME), a nonprofit animal-advocacy group, Skin Trade is a definite must for activists looking for tools to educate others on what animals turned into fashion endure, but as Ecouterre points out, it shouldn’t necessarily be watched with a bowl of popcorn or your own pet in your lap as its graphic scenes are not for the faint of heart.

‘Blood Dolphins’ Lincoln O’Barry On Dolphin Traditions In Japan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 in Animal Issues, Film & TV.

Lincoln O’Barry is the son of ex dolphin trainer turned activist Ric O’Barry, who was a major player in the movie The Cove. On Animal Planet’s Blood Dolphins, Ric returns to where The Cove was filmed in Japan and brings along his son Lincoln as the work side by side to expose dolphin slaughter.

Lincoln spoke to The Futon Critic on his like father like son passion for educating the world on marine conservation. It’s not a lie to say the dolphin industry isn’t linked with strong tradition in Japan. Perhaps that’s why there was so much opposition to The Cove finally getting it’s premiere in the country. Lincoln explains that the first three episodes of Blood Dolphins cover some of those traditions.

Paul Vasquez, otherwise known as the “Double Rainbow” guy in the Microsoft Windows Live Photo Gallery commercial told Fast Company he’s currently working with an agent to star in a TV film pilot about his life living in the wilderness.

Vasquez, who further complicates the aliases after saying he likes to be called “bear,” said the pilot will highlight his life in martial arts, vegan eating, losing weight, building his home using alternative materials, using alternative energy, and organic farming.

Interestingly, Vasquez says he’s been living on about $5,000 a year for the past few years. He hasn’t made big bucks off the Live Photo Gallery commercial yet. Guess  you can say he’s still waiting for the pot of gold at the end of the double rainbow. If he’s eaten vegan during all these years, it would be great to have him demonstrate cheap, natural animal-free eating on the pilot as more questions burn the mind on how he survives.

Does he grow his own? Follow the guide for How To Eat Vegan On The Cheap Religiously?
