Like her spunky character Darlene in Roseanne, actress Sara Gilbert doesn’t shy away from giving her opinion, and she might share her views about America’s diet on a new mom-focused CBS daytime show, The Talk, which premiers October 18th.

“I’m vegan so I’m about as green as you get,” says Gilbert. “I think the diet in this country is kind of broken so I like talking about that.”

Gilbert was a vegetarian for 20 years before going vegan.

Gilbert is also the producer of The Talk, which will feature Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur on the celebrity panel with her.  A preview of The Talk can be seen below.

As reported earlier, this week’s episode of The Biggest Loser featured Bob Harper taking some contestants back to his home and serving them vegan food.

As always, Bob gives some tips for creating a healthier kitchen, including staying away from processed foods.

Harper insists he doesn’t keep a lot of food in the house, because food that will store longer means more processed ingredients. It’s a safe bet he’s not harboring a McDonald’s burger that will not decompose after six months.

“I think the food you should have in your house should have a shelf life of two weeks,” Harper said.

The contestants enjoyed a completely vegan meal of roasted wild mushroom with shaved fennel salad, an heirloom tomato and basil leaf salad, chopped broccoli with pine nuts, roasted sweet corn and roasted cauliflower.

Watch the clip below to hear the contestants’ reaction to their first vegan meal.

Taking a risk with a vegetarian or vegan dish on a mainstream reality TV cooking competition isn’t as frightful as it used to be. Chefs are smarter, judges are open and almost no one faints to hear there’s no four or two legged flesh as the main centerpiece.

On a recent The Next Iron Chef, the competitors were given the task of turning classic diner food into something head turning (but not stomach turning). Chef Maneet Chauhan didn’t just give burgers a twist, she made the veggie burger a classic! Although the judges weren’t thrilled with the patty, Chauhan’s okra and squash blossom french fries were a hit.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will star alongside each other in Darren Aronofsky’s film, The Tiger. According to Entertainment.ie, the movie will be the first the couple has starred in together since Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

The Tiger centers around an animal rights activist who must save a village of people from a tiger who’s become accustomed to the taste of human flesh, a phenomena, according to Save The Tiger Fund, is rare.

Humans moving into areas where tigers inhabit and tigers that are too sick or injured to catch normal prey of wild pig, wild cattle and several species of deer are usually the causes of man-eating tigers’ behavior.

Spaghetti Tacos are all the rage, thanks to the Nickelodeon on Sunset television series iCarly, which features adolescent Carly Shay, played by Miranda Cosgrove, who creates her own web shows with her two best friends Sam and Freddie.

Sam (Samantha) is known for her gluttonous desire for meat, which is probably why the original recipe for Spaghetti Tacos listed on the iCarly website calls for meat sauce. And burping.

Get taco shells.
Get spaghetti (with meat sauce).
Get a BIG spoon.
Use the BIG spoon to put spaghetti into taco shells.
Eat.
Burp.

Thank goodness for Carly’s 26-year old brother and guardian Spencer, who at least recommends some low-fat vegetarian pizza from time to time.

There are numerous ways to vegify this recipe to make it healthier and cruelty-free, as Vegancognito did using faux meat and vegan sour cream.

Colbert Report Full Episodes 2010 Election March to Keep Fear Alive

Stephen Colbert has never failed to come to the humor rescue, making light of green and environmental topics that are absurd, news-breaking, or, in the case of discontinuing the 100% biodegradable Sun Chips bags because opening them made too much noise, insane.

Soon, things will get quieter again. And we’ll be able to hear some of the sounds that are becoming an unfortunate part of nature.

“Luckily we can save the planet from unpleasant sound by using new quiet coal technologies and breakthroughs in silent oil,” Colbert says. “And if we just do that much, eventually the ice caps will melt, the seas will rise, and our coastal cities will be underwater, where it’s nice and quiet.”

Vegan Sun Chips lovers, however, can still make all the noise they want. For now.

A sneak peek at an upcoming episode of The Biggest Loser reveals coach Bob Harper will trade his tank top for an apron as he invites contestants into his home and prepares a vegan meal for them!

The episode is scheduled to air on October 12th and will also feature celebrity chef Curtis Stone preparing healthier desserts, like his Poached Pear with Red Wine Reduction and Yogurt.

Will Harper use faux meats? Or will he prepare a high protein substitute like seitan from scratch? Or maybe he will do it plain and simple, utilizing some of his favorite vegan staples like soy, beans, raw or roasted nuts and hummus.

Tune in next week on NBC to find out!
