Dr. Neal Barnard and Ellen DeGeneres

Dr. Neal Barnard appeared as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss his latest book Power Foods, dispense advice for better health, and offer a few vegan recipes.

Dr. Barnard is the president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, which advocates a plant-based diet for human health and pushes medical research without the use of animals when possible.

Chopped Food Network

One of the most renown vegan chefs in the U.S. can be seen on the Food Network’s Chopped next month competing in an event that will have both he and his competitors using plant-based protein.

Rich Landau of Philadelphia based Vedge was asked to use an ingredient he’s already quite familiar with.

The mystery ingredient of the night was tempeh.

“Mary Lou’s a strict vegan. When I came on the show, I thought, “How am I going to eat?” Last time there was no food and there was no water and we were all mad all the time,” Rinna said.

“I’m going to become a vegan a month before I go and I’m just going to eat everything Mary Lou does.”

Jane Lynch "Shelter Me"

Jane Lynch will co-host the second installment of Shelter Me, a PBS series on pet adoption. The series began in April and highlights different pets that found their way into the homes of two-legged families.

Instead of sharing the screen with another actor, the Glee coach will work alongside her dog Olivia to help educate viewers on the importance of seeking pets from shelters.

Ashley Bell traveled to Cambodia to film Love and Bananas, a documentary about the plight of Asian elephants in captivity.

The country has its share of issues that adversely affect elephants and other animals in the wild, from circuses and zoos with poor welfare standards to deforestation.

But there is much being done to combat these problems. The Cambodian Wildlife Sanctuary that provides a home for rescued elephants and alternative jobs for loggers are being drafted.

And Cambodia’s culinary experience is a beautiful one in itself, especially when it comes to the fresh produce.
