Mickey Rourke At “Iron Man 2” Premiere Fakes Exotic Skin Lapel

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 in Actors, Fashion.

Iron Man 2 World Premiere

Mickey Rourke attended the premiere of Iron Man 2 this week wearing a three piece brown suit with exotic animal skin looking lapels.

Rest assured, the actor who now seems naked without his dear deceased dog Loki, who was always at his side, says the panels aren’t from real animals.

“(It’s) some kind of crocodile or something,” Rourke said, according to USA Today. “It’s not real, though. I don’t want to hear from the animal activists. I didn’t make it. A guy named David August made it. Sylvester Stallone turned me on to the guy. He’s really a rock and roll dude.”

Olivia Munn Accused Of Wearing Leather Boots At PETA Event

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 in Fashion, TV Hosts.

Iron Man 2 actress Olivia Munn unveils her naked PETA billboard at the intersection of Highland Ave and Wilshire Blvd

It was the attack of the Attack of the Show host on Tuesday when Olivia Munn posed in front of both the billboard and poster displaying her PSA against circuses.

A visitor to the event saw that Munn was wearing a pair of boots that resembled leather and decided to make a fuss about it, according to The Superficial.

“I went to the PETA Protest today (4/27) in Los Angeles against Circus Elephants featuring Olivia Munn. It appears Olivia is wearing leather boots. I yelled out, “Are those boots leather?” but the PETA people got in my face and said, “This isn’t a leather campaign.” Olivia said, “They’re not,” but I was not allowed to examine the boots.”

The Superficial reader who called Munn out obviously lives in the dark ages, cause everyone knows about the availability of boots made from synthetic material, only looking like leather on the “superficial.”

Be it vinyl, faux leather, pleather, or whatever you call it, one looking to be fake has every option from an $800 Stella McCartney to a $21 pair from Target.

Maybe he just wanted to cause a scene and sensationalize things?

“America’s Next Top Model” Cycle 14–The Value Of Faux (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 26th, 2010 in Fashion, Models, Videos.

The gals from America’s Next Top Model Cycle 14 were recently taught a lesson on how to fake it.

To illustrate how buying knock off designs hurt the original designers, the models posed in everything fake–including fake fur.

According to the clip above, the fashion industry loses about about $9.2 billion dollars a year from counterfeit goods like the fake Prada bags the photographer pretending to be a salesman on the street was offering.

Of course, sometimes it’s good to be fake.

The costs of real fur?

According to Mercy for Animals, here is the bottom line.

“Of the 31 million animals killed on fur ranches each year, about twenty-six million are mink and 4.5 million are fox. In addition, 250,000 chinchillas, 150,000 sable, 100,000 fitch, 100,000 raccoon dogs (a separate species from the American raccoon), and a small number of lynx, bobcat, and nutria are fur farmed.”

“Project Runway” Makes Trash Classier Than Leather (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 26th, 2010 in Fashion, Reality TV, Videos.

Stella McCartney said that wearing leather is just plain trashy.

One contestant from Season 7’s Project Runway thought the same, so he proved even a trash bag looks better than animal hide.

The outfit, including the woven belt, is contructed entirely from Hefty’s, and is meant is resemble faux leather.

Jay Nicolas Sario said he thought of the words, “Sexy bitch,” when he created the outfit.

The judges are impressed and one said, We’ve seen many garbage bags on Project Runway, but never quite like this.”

Take a look and decide for yourself.

Could this faux be taken for real?

Natalie Portman Had Vision For Fashion–Via Spiga Director

2010 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Graydon Carter - Arrivals

When Natalie Portman decided to launch her line of vegan shoes with Te Casan, she collaborated with Via Spiga creative director Paola Venturi.

Venturi had nothing but good words to say about Portman in an interview with Orange County Local News.

“She contacted me at the Te Casan company because she wanted to design a vegan shoe line. She fell in love with the brand and we started to work together on a small collection. She’s fabulous because she has a vision about fashion. She was really directional so it was easy to interpret.”

Unfortunately, some good things do come to an end, and Portman’s shoe line received the boot in 2008 bad economy.

Doc Martens celebrates its 50th year in manufacturing the famous 14 and 18 holed shoes this month.

The company started out very eco-friendly, as Dr Klaus Märtens and Dr Herbert Funck constructed the first pair from recycled discarded rubber from former Luftwaffe airfields.

Years later the company began making vegan versions of Docs, but the production of those shoes were halted when it relocated factories to Asia.

Relax.

There are other vegan shoes in the sea.

Anna Wintour‘s appearance and speech at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York was met with protesters from People from the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

The Vogue editor is known for her love of fur, and it’s comeback in fashion has been attributed to this.

The protesters held signs with Wintour’s face with taglines that read, “Fur Is Worn by Beautiful Animals and Ugly People,” as well as posters depicting animals being skinned for fur.

PETA’s vice president Tracy Reiman said, “We scoured photo agencies for the shot that most accurately reflects Wintour’s selfish, cruel nature, and although there were many candidates, this one summed it up best. Wintour is the perfect poster girl for one of the most hideous industries on the planet.”

“There’s always a way to wear fur,” Wintour has said. “Personally, I wear it on my back.”

Johnny Weir Wants Fur In Fashion Line

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Fashion, Fur.

The 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Century City

Johnny Weir will make fur fly among animal rights activists again when he launches his own line of clothing.

The Olympic figure skater who was the target of such activists when he wore an outfit with rabbit fur trim on the ice says he wants to be “sewing buttons and putting fur trim on things” himself.

In an interview with the LA Times, Weir said, “I definitely want to get a clothing line off the ground, but I need a lot of leg work. You don’t want to be somebody that has someone else make them a line of clothing and put their name on it.”

Among the designs he admires, Weir lists Karl Lagerfeld and the Chanel lines as favorites.

“I collect Chanel even if I can’t wear it. I have these beautiful 1950s and 1960s jackets. I would have to have the buttons switched over to the other side, but I collect them more like art pieces.”

Lagerfeld, who’s known for his collections of fur, recently changed gears and featured an all faux Chanel fashion show.

Hopefully, Weir will take after one of his heroes and put the fake fur trim on collars.
