Bobby Flay

Bobby Flay recommends grilling burgers for dad’s big day, and gave some tips in a recent video posted just in time for Father’s Day.

While the Bobby’s Burger Palace restaurant owner claims to be the authority on grilling meat, he’s a little in the dark on grilling veggie patties.

“Veggie burgers don’t exist in my life,” Flay said. “I haven’t found a good one yet. I don’t want to eat lentils and quinoa pasted together … I’m just not interested in that.”

Fortunately, veggie burgers made from more things than lentils and quinoa can exist in dad’s life, and here are a few tips for grilling meatless patties that everyone–including Flay–should take notes on.

Ford Motor Company has created a series of online reality competitions to celebrate the launch of its all-electric, 5-passenger vehicle, the Ford Focus Electric.

Plugged In features celebrity created challenges throughout different cities, with the star’s favorite hot spots included on the itinerary. Two-person teams must use the Ford Electric when visiting each stop on the hunt.

Alicia Silverstone was in charge of creating Plugged In’s San Francisco’s challenge and she chose both a vegan-friendly and animal charity spot for the contestants to visit.

Chef Thomas Keller made a statement to the New York Times that sounded as if he was not hopping on the bandwagon to cook with more sustainable ingredients anytime soon and that it wasn’t his job to do so.

“With the relatively small number of people I feed, is it really my responsibility to worry about carbon footprint?” Keller asked. “The world’s governments should be worrying about carbon footprint.

Elizabeth Meltz, director of sustainability for Mario Batali and several other popular chefs, responded to Keller’s comment on Bay Area Bites, suggesting that even observing something as simple as Meatless Monday can go a great way towards preserving the planet.

Leona Lewis is asking officials of the UN’s 2012 Earth Summitt to put protection for farmed animals on the agenda for the event in Rio in June.

The singer is asking fans to sign a petition created by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) that will place animal welfare among priority issues such as food crisis and climate change.

“I am supporting WSPA, so please support me by going to the site below and joining thousands of others worldwide who are demanding that farm animals are on the agenda at the UN 2012 Earth Summit in Rio. By adding your name, you could help animals have a better future,” Lewis said.
