Martin Shaw, who plays Judge John Deed on the British television show with the same title, has signed a petition to save the St. Ann’s Well Cafe in Malvern Hills.

According to the BBC News, the Malvern Hill Conservators want to evict the manager, and another source says the place will be turned into a tourist information center.

The manager of St. Ann’s said of Shaw, “He said he’d found it a tranquil place and was lovely for him to get to when he is at the town theatre.”

More than 6,000 people have signed a Facebook petition asking the cafe to remain open.

When you live in an area where there aren’t too many vegetarian restaurants to begin with, it’s always pains to see a good place close.

Legacy Guitar Straps

Legacy Guitar Straps

Guitar and animal enthusiasts can be excited now that Legacy Guitar Straps has announced its making all its straps leather free and synthetic.

Company president Gary Merola wrote on the Legacy website, which was also found in a recent press release:

“Prior to founding www.legacystraps.com I had a leather shop that used only the finest vegetable tanned leathers which were then hand tooled, dyed, oiled and made into belts, handbags, hats, holsters and the like. These Leathers were very expensive and while some people might be willing to pay $75 for a Guitar Strap, I wanted to make products that would be available to all musicians, regardless of income. In an effort to make the best possible products we regularly test various materials for the ends of our guitar straps. Due to superiority of the synthetic leather material ALL Legacy Guitar straps will now come standard with Synthetic leather ends. Since no animals are harmed to produce our products we are proud to declare our guitar straps “Cruelty Free” This should be of particular interest to our “Vegan” Customers.”

Mercola goes into detail about the advantages of synthetic and the disadvantages of leather from a quality perspective.

Real leather is often cut unevenly and requires the purchase of a more expensive model for a decent strap, while synthetic is cut uniformly, making it easier to work with and doesn’t turn brittle.

Twitter’s Biz Stone Helped Google Get Vegan Food On Its Menu

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, May 3rd, 2010 in Business, Food & Drink, Tech.

Twitter Co-Founders Biz Stone And Ev Williams Address Developers Conference

Biz Stone was a guest at Farm Sanctuary’s Hoe Down this weekend, and shared a few experiences via Twitter.

The 140 character social media platform co-founder turned vegan after visiting an animal sanctuary in New York.

“These creatures are special just like all of us, and since I don’t need to eat them to live, I’m going to leave them alone,” Stone told SF Gate. “And then there’s the cruelty, which is awful. From then on, I have happily been vegan.”

Stone appearing at the country line dancing event to raise money for abandoned and abused farm animals isn’t his first act of activism.

While an employee of Google Inc. in 2003, Stone convinced execs to put more vegan items on the menu, something he said everyone enjoyed.

“I have found that when vegan options are provided in the workplace, many non-vegans will go for them either because they find them tasty or they appreciate the healthier choice.”

According to its website, ARAMARK, one of the nation’s largest providers of food services to businesses, has several hundred recipes for vegetarian and vegan food that could potentially be served at workplaces where employees demand such fare.

It is also the same company that is responsible for adding so many new vegetarian and vegan options in professional baseball fields this season.

ARAMARK can offer cage-free eggs and has partnered with the Monterray Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program to shift towards sustainable seafood purchases over the next 10 years.

Chipotle first expanded its vegetarian market by offering the vegan filling in its Dupont Circle restaurant in Washington, D.C.

Then, New Yorkers got to sample the Garden Blend in their fajita burritos.

Now, according to the Sacramento Business Journal, Chipotle has claimed Roseville, California as its latest location to test the meatless variety, along with stores in Los Angeles and Denver.

Could the vegan filling one day be available in yourtown, USA, or will it be restricted to larger cities and regions known for residents that are more likely to be open to a meat-free variety?

“We’re still playing with the recipe,” said Chris Arnold, director of public relations with Chipotle. “We don’t have any data yet. But we have had a lot of interest from customers for something like this from all across the country.”

Chipotle has over 1,000 restaurants in 35 states in the United States and Canada.

Rufus Wainwright Fan Of Macrobiotic Food At Souen NYC

If you can get past that episode of Dinner with the Band that had Rufus Wainwright as a guest at the table for a meal of rabbit food (and no, we don’t mean greens), you might be excited to hear he’s a fan of macrobiotic food.

In the New York Post‘s 10 of the Moment article, Wainwright says he likes to frequent Souen on East 13th Street.

“It’s a great place to get macrobiotic food, but the only problem is you get gassy. But it’s cool to stink,” he said.

Can’t smell any worse than fried rabbit legs.

Souen is very vegetarian and vegan friendly.

Since some types of fish are sometimes used in macrobiotic eating, this is a place for pescatarians as well.

Try the homemade seitan dumplings filled with “seitan, chinese cabbage, scallion, shiitake, garlic, and ginger.”

You may stink later, but the food will smell great as you eat it.
