Liz Lovely Cookies "Shark"

Shark Tank, the ABC series that has entrepreneurs pitching their product for chance for some investment money from several well-known millionaires, recently featured a vegan-friendly company looking to expand with the sharks’ help.

Liz Lovely cookies are vegan and gluten-free, which leaves investor Kevin O’Leary wondering what can actually go in them.

“Gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free. What are they made out of? Sand?” he asks.

Lots of good things!

Like the gluten-free, Triple-Chocolate Mint Cookies with natural cane sugar and vegan dark chocolate–meant to give the Girls Scouts some competition!

Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions and fans have one more vegetarian option to chew down on at halftime.

Ford Field has invited Detroit restaurant Slows BBQ to the Lions’ home turf to offer several of its gourmet sandwiches that will be prepared fresh at its own concession stand.

BBQ still means chicken, pork and brisket–especially in the midwest–but Slows isn’t slow at all when it comes to knowing Lions have veggie fans in the audience.

Billy Corgan ZuZu’s Delivers Fantastic Vegan Chocolate Cake

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 24th, 2012 in Business, Food & Drink, Restaurants.

Billy Corgan

Billy Corgan opened his long-awaited tea cafe in Highland Park, a suburb of Chicago, IL, a little over a week ago.

Opening day featured free tea and performances from the Smashing Pumpkins band member. But Corgan warned that, “If people come in to stalk me I won’t hang out because I don’t want to disrupt the customers.”

So Vegetarian Star stopped by a few days later to avoid such a disruption and instead stalk the vegan desserts.

There were a total of about six on the menu and the big slice of vegan chocolate cake with an equally vegan vanilla frosting had the biggest celebrity factor. The texture of the cake itself was extremely light and airy and the portion was well worth the $5 for the slice.

What If “Lightlife” Had A Farm? (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 20th, 2012 in Business, Food & Drink, Videos.

A cute and entertaining video that poses the question of how farmed animals would live on a pasture owned by one well-known producer of vegetarian and vegan faux meats, entrees and other dishes.

Lightlife’s farmed animals are a little different–pigs made of corn cobs and chickens crafted from greens with red onions for wings. These hens aren’t confined to cages either–and they lay radishes instead of eggs.

Watch the clip before going out and sampling some of your favorite Lightlife products like Smart Bacon, Veggie Chili, tofu hot dogs and more.
