Quantcast Vegetarian StarBilly Corgan Plans To Open Tea Shop Soon

Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan plans to open a tea cafe that will also serve vegetarian sandwiches in the Highland Park area of his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.

Corgan says it’s because Starbucks is “all about ‘sameness’ and it attracts the same fucking people” he doesn’t want to “hang out with.”

Fair enough.

“[There’s a] lack of culture for someone in their 30s or 40s,” he told Eater. “I think for such a nice place you need places to go and meet people and exchange ideas. That’s the idea fot the tea house … a place to gather.”

The shop will be located in the former U.S. Post Office on Roger Williams Avenue. Corgan has yet to release the name of the soon-to-be open business.

So people in their 30s and 40s should be able to go there for great drinks, good veg food and avoid the boring people who frequent those other coffee houses. They should not, however, expect to experience regular sightings of Corgan. He’s bad for business.

“If people come in to stalk me I won’t hang out because I don’t want to disrupt the customers.”

“The celebrity factor will mean something for the first four to six months and then it’ll come down to whether it’s a good business.”

Originally Corgan planned to open his shop by April, but construction plans pushed back the date. He now believes he’ll be open for business sometime in June.
