Spike TV's 7th Annual Video Game Awards 2009 - Arrivals

If you’re offered the pleasure of eating lunch or dinner with professional skateboard legend and video game guru Tony Hawk, ask him to buy you a veggie burger at The Counter Burger restaurant.

A weirdo like yourself will be pleased.

“Lunch at @counterburger is really good,” he Tweeted. “This is not a plug, just a recommendation. Even my finicky weirdo vegetarian friend likes it.”

The Counter Burger menu will allow you to pick your burgers (which will obviously be meat free), then customize the toppings.

And these are no ordinary toppings, veg friends.

Cranberries on a burger? You can have that, as well as pineapple, corn and black bean salsa, guacamole and of course the regular burger features like onions, tomatoes and lettuce

Sick of ketchup?

Try peanut sauce instead.

Or, you can opt for the already built Unique Veggie burger with organic mixed greens, roasted red peppers, sprouts, onions and Dijon Basalmic Dressing.

Counter Burgers on mostly located in U.S. California, but also in major cities in states like Illinois, Washington and the countries of Ireland and Australia.

Oprah Winfrey, Michael Vick Make Animal History

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 30th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Athletes-Games-Sports, TV Hosts.

Wayne Pacelle, CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, has blogged on what he feels were the biggest stories of the decade relating to animal welfare.

Sadly, some of the most newsworthy stories aren’t necessarily good ones, like the Michael Vick dog fighting incidents uncovered in 2007.

However, there were plenty of celebrities looking out for the animals in the past decade and Oprah Winfrey‘s been awarded her set of wings for featuring an episode of her show that criticized puppy mills.

“Since the broadcasts, we’ve rescued thousands of animals from puppy mills,” writes Pacelle. “Just this year, 10 states have approved legislation to impose tougher standards on large scale dog breeding operations, and the new standards have prompted a number of deficient puppy mills to shut down. And a raft of protests has cause pet stores to close or at least to stop selling puppies from mills.”

And O even featured some four legged stars on the cover of her magazine after visiting PAWS, Chicago’s largest no-kill animal shelter.

Let’s hope the next decade is filled with more trendsetters like Oprah and less of the history one would rather forget.

Annie Duke Flirting With Veggies?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Celebrity Tweets, Food & Drink.

All In For Wishes Celebrity Poker Tournament For Make-A-Wish Foundation

Annie Duke‘s mail order company My Mixed Nuts features gummy bears without the gelatin, sunny bears.

However, Annie has recently announced to her Twitter followers that she’s not vegetarian..right before she announced she was getting some love from a vegan soup.

“Lunch at Mani’s…Yummy curry cauliflower and chickpea soup. Vegan :)”

Your average burger lover usually doesn’t Tweet about cauliflowers and chickpeas.

Has Annie joined the club of flexitarians or part time vegetarians?

Is she a fish eating veggie?

Or does she just want to kick vegan Daniel Negreanu‘s butt at the poker table, edamame present or not.

Annie Duke “My Mixed Nuts” Sunny Vegetarian Gummy Bears

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, December 27th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Food & Drink.

All In For Wishes Celebrity Poker Tournament For Make-A-Wish Foundation

Poker champion Annie Duke has a mail order service offering nuts and trail mix combinations called My Mixed Nuts.

One such mix of nuts available for purchase is the “Gummy Delicious” bag, which comes with dark chocolate chips, sour cherries, roasted and salted almonds, raw macadamia nuts, golden raisins and “sunny bears.”

What the heck are sunny bears?

Organic and vegetarian versions of gummy bears!

That’s right, no gelatin my friends.

Annie came up with the idea of My Mixed Nuts after not finding the perfect combo of nuts, seeds and fruits in trail mixes she purchased at grocery stores.

Annie would pick through the bags and throw away the undesired content.

Forming business partnerships with Apprentice producer Ryan Simpkins and boyfriend Joe Reitman and with the help of Simpkins mother to run the website, Annie turned My Mixed Nuts from a dream to reality.

Question of the day.

Did Annie purposely ensure her “sunny bears” would be suitable for vegetarians?

Wonder if Daniel Negreanu carries a sunny bear mix in his pocket while playing the chips.

Make your own trail mix and grab some sunny bears at mymixednuts.com.

Ladies, you know by now that the PETA naked people ads don’t appeal to you nearly as much to men.

But progress is in the works.

Dennis Rodman showed his buns against fur, Owain Yeoman bared his pecs and now NBA basketball player Amar’e Stoudemire is showing off his chiseled body of  tattoos.

“I love animals, and I wouldn’t want to see anything cruel … happen to any animals just for a fashion,” Stoudemire said.

Which is why he’s asking you to get inked instead of buying mink, fox, rabbit and any other animal for a coat.

Sigh…soon women will ask Amar’e for favors as well.

Tai Babilonia Skates Against Fur Rockefeller Center Ice Rink (Photo)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 30th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Fur.

Olympic Skater, Tai Babilonia, Would Rather Skate Naked Than Wear Fur! Olympic skater Tai Babilonia recently skated in Rockefeller Ice Skating Rink in New York City to support a PETA “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur,” campaign. Not only does is this woman an incredible beauty and athlete, she’s smart and compassionate to know that wearing fur makes a triple lutz look like a triple klutz. The rink may be cool, but fur farms and killing an animal for fashion is colder than ice. Great job, Tai! Check out other photos below.
