John Robbins, best selling author and vegan activist who turned down the opportunity to run the family’s Baskin-Robbins ice cream business to campaign against consuming animal products, will host the San Francisco premier of Bold Native, a fiction film about animal rights group Animal Liberation Front.

The premier will take place this Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Red Vic Movie House in San Francisco. The San Francisco Examiner caught up with Robbins to get a few words on the film and his vegan beliefs.

SF Examiner: Why do you want to spread the film’s message?
John Robbins: Ninety-nine percent of the meat that’s eaten in this country comes from inhumane production. Good people who love their dogs or cats and who care about the world are unknowingly eating meat from systems that really are profoundly incompatible with their caring. It’s painful to confront that disconnect but unless we confront it, we can’t do anything about it

When Olivia Munn was having trouble with a “bitch,” she sought the advice of none other than dog expert Cesar Millan.

It wasn’t that Munn was in need of purchasing dog training classes or lessons in become the leader of the pack, she was just irate at the female animal activist sitting next to her who just wants to get rid of puppy mills.

Milan quickly gives Munn a lesson in behavior and viewers a lesson on how they should view puppy mills if they love dogs.

“Puppy Mills reflect the wrong way in America,” Millan begins. “If America is going to call itself a dog lover country, we must treat dogs humanely.”

DoSomething.org lists 11 facts about puppy mills. Most Americans would agree that housing dogs in crowded and unsantitary conditions that pave the way for illness and infection is no humane way to treat a dog. According to Do Something, “The average puppy mill has between 65 and 75 animals housed in hutch-style cages with wire floors. The waste drops to the ground below and accumulates beneath the cage where flies and other gross things fester.”

A piggy bank made from a real pig is available for $4,000, but so far, no one is rushing to stand in line to purchase it like the Tickle Me Elmo annoyance who inhaled too much laughing gas years ago.

“We’ve had a few emails today saying some not very nice things to us,” said Ryan McCormick, one of two entrepreneurs behind the online shop. “Some death threats and many calling us disgusting pigs.”

PETA To G20 Officials–Use Modern Water Test In Lieu Of Goldfish

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 12th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Politicians.

Goldfish

PETA blasted the G20 Summit in Seoul, Korea for using live goldfish to test the purity of the water in the bathrooms.

Officials of the event to discuss the global financial system and world economy used the fish purity test as one of several security measures implemented for the conference which ended on November 12th.

Several studies have shown fish can feel pain like mammals. University of Edinburgh and University of Glasgow researchers, for example, found fish pain receptors were very similar to mammals. These and other facts were included in PETA’s letter to G20, along with the suggestion to use more sophisticated methods to test the water.

Ady Gil, animal lover, founder of American Hi Definition and Sweetwater Digital and benefactor to the Sea Shepherd Society, is aiming to save more turkeys this year with your help.

From now until November 25th, Gil will sponsor an additional turkey for every one sponsored through Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey program.

He originally offered to sponsor another turkey up to $20,000, but after that amount was raised in just a few short days, he raised the offer to $50,000!

“Thanksgiving is a symbolic holiday,” said Gil, in a press release. “I don’t believe we should celebrate by killing another species. Every animal, including turkeys, deserves to see the light of day, go to sleep and wake up without finding themselves on someone’s plate. This is a time to show people that we can celebrate without causing suffering.”
