Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 27th, 2010 in Actresses, Fashion.

Alicia Silverstone is truly a model for vegan fashion, not only due to her classic screen looks and fit body, but through her compassionate animal rights values she’s promoted through her website, The Kind Life, and her vegan lifestyle and cookbook, The Kind Diet.

Collegefashion.net has compiled what is says are the actress’ favorite styles. Either the Billabong bag or Matt & Nat clutch (bottom: left and middle) complement the Chinese Laundry heels (top: left) and the black Mod Cloth bag (bottom: right) goes well with the Fashion-Conscience Ankle boots (top: right), but what do you pair with the Mod Cloth purple pumps (top: middle)? The answer could be a Steve Madden Katia Medium Eggplant Purple Vegan Satchel at Alternative Outfitters or at the first ever San Francisco Vegan Fashion Show on October 2nd.

Katherine Heigl has pledged to donate $1 million dollars to spay and neuter programs in Los Angeles.

The “Life As We Know It” actress kicked off an initiative in collaboration with the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation called “The Compassion Revolution,” which aims to reduce the number of animals in LA area shelters.

If compassion for animals does not appeal to some, the costs of such a tragedy should be enough to make even the biggest cynic turn their head. According to The Hollywood Reporter, each year, 500,000 animals are sheltered and euthanized in California, which costs the state $250 million dollars. Heigl has emphasized to the media that many people are completely unaware of these numbers, as well as the statistics on how easily animals that aren’t fixed can multiply.

“They have no idea that a litter of 10 means a litter of, like, 400 in the future,” Heigl said. “We can tell them and educate them, and provide a way for them to spay and neuter their pets.”

Restaurant aren’t always on target when naming dishes after celebrities. Some can’t spell Carrie Underwood’s name correctly or remember that she doesn’t eat meat. Something tells us Natalie Portman wouldn’t eat her own lobster salad at a New York eatery. But finally, a family owned restaurant in the midwest has gotten it right with the Vegetarian Pamela Anderson sandwich.

Tortas Guicho Dominguez y el Cubanito in Indianapolis, Indiana (that’s quite a mouthful to blurt out where to eat when you’re hungry) has a sandwich on the menu fit for the sex symbol actress to consume, containing green bell peppers, mozzarella, and mushrooms.

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland shares her thoughts with Peta2 on animal testing, dissection and adoption.

“I feel like companies that still test on animals should either be shut-down or all just arrested because there are companies that don’t test on animals. If there’s one company that doesn’t do it and 5 that do, I don’t understand why those 5 can’t follow the same path as that one.”

The American Anti-Vivisection Society has a page that lists companies that are cruelty-free, where you may look up some popular brands you may use, such as Burt’s Bees, Giovanni Cosmetics and Alba Botanica.
