Natalie Portman Quorn Healthy Celebrity

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Love And Other Impossible Pursuits Premiere - 34th Annual Toronto International Film Festival

Quorn, which makes vegetarian faux meats from a fungus (yeah sounds gross, but taste really good) has compiled a list of healthiest celebrities and our darling vegan Natalie Portman made the cut.

“Natalie says vegetarianism is the key to being healthy! She has been a strict vegetarian since childhood and has great faith in the health benefits (http://www.goveg.com/healthConcerns.asp). Maybe she’s even a QuornTM lover?!”

The blog asks, “What do you think of the list? Anyone missing or glaring mistakes? The great debate starts here!”

Um, yeah, where the heck are the other vegetarians?

Everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Jessica Alba to Beyonce is listed, but it looks like Natalie is the only vegetarian on the top 10.

Strange, considering Quorn is a maker of vegetarian products.

We’d put NHL star Georges Laraque on there, along with Kind Dieter Alicia Silverstone, not to mention “I bike everywhere” Ed Begley Jr.

There are dozens are veg celebrities that could easily take the spots of the other nine.

Who else should Quorn name healthiest celeb?

Kristen Bell poses for photographs while walking the red carpet at the premiere of Astro Boy , held at the Grauman's Chinese Theater

Kristen Bell recently did an interview with Women’s Health magazine where she revealed that although she went vegetarian at the age of 11 for animal rights, mom made sure she retained her healthy eating habits.

“I try to eat as many colors as possible. My mom taught me that when I was little. If you’re plate is colorful, you’re probably doing a good job.”

Kristen’s exercise routine consists of  lots of yoga, strength training, walking her dogs, and taking the stairs whenever possible.

“I try to eat more fresh foods than processed ones, and the grainiest bread possible.”

Maybe the Grain Council will recruit Kristen to be their next grain “it” girl.

The Kind Diet

All this week, we’re hosting a giveaway and three of our lucky readers will receive a free copy of Alicia Silverstone‘s new vegan diet and lifestyle book, The Kind Diet.

Every day until the end of the contest, we’re bringing you a few of Alicia’s thoughts on The Kind Diet, with a reminder to leave a comment to enter to win.

Today, Alicia answers the question of what it means to “eat kind.”

“Eating “Kind” is about being really, really good to yourself and the planet via the foods you put into your body. A plant-based diet filled with whole and organic foods will give you tons of energy, mental clarity, gorgeous skin and a zest for life. But this kindness also extends to the earth itself; by requiring less fuel, water, and other resources, a plant-based diet is much lighter on the planet. And because it is clean, this diet helps our soil, water and atmosphere get healthy as well.”

Don’t miss your chance to learn to eat kinder and help yourself, animals, and the planet.

Enter to win The Kind Diet today.

Mayim Bialik: Politcally Incorrect Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 19th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

All grown up! Blossoming Mayim Bialik leaves the Cinespace movie theater following the premiere of Rex

Whether it’s for convenience, an inability to give up some foods, or whatever your reasons, the “almost vegans” may find it hard to categorize themselves while bringing up their diets with other people.

To the “almost vegans” out there, you have famous company.

Mayim Bialik, almost vegan, describes her position as this:

“I don’t call myself vegan in political vegan circles, because I do eat eggs if it is in something, or dairy if it is in something and I taste it, it is okay with me. Our son is raised pretty much the same. As I said, in political circles, vegans don’t consider me vegan, but I don’t eat dairy or eggs, or fish or anything with a face or a nervous system. If I am around vegans, I say I am a vegetarian who doesn’t eat dairy or eggs. I also don’t wear leather.”

What are some of your politically incorrect vegan habits?

Do you keep your home vegan, but eat dairy if there’s a batch of cookies in the office?
