The American Cancer Society's Choose You Launch Luncheon

Ellen Pompeo‘s daughter is already seven months old with 2 teeth!

Since baby Stella is taking to solid foods, Pompeo is being extra careful about what to feed her, even for foods as simple as cereal.

“I haven’t given her Cheerios yet but if she does, she would have organic oats instead,” Pompeo, the Grey’s Anatomy actress who, although enjoys veggie burgers, had a failed attempt at going vegetarian, told People.

If a child finds a box of Lucky Charms at the end of the rainbow, it’s not so fortunate after all.

Cereals marketed to children often have 85% more sugar, 65% less fiber and 60% more sodium that cereals marketed to adults.

Grist has profiled several organic cereals, some of which are marketed for children, and put them to the test.

Enviro Kidz came out a winner across several of their varieties, which are sweetened with cane juice instead of sugar.

Matter of fact, Enviro Kidz came out on top for the adults…

Must be those cute lemurs on the box that make you feel warm and cuddly at six in the morning before a work day.

Stefanie Hart Aims For The 105 Year Plan With Vegetarian Diet

TCM Classic Film Festival Opening Night Screening Of A Star Is Born

Stefanie Hart, the actress that starred in the popular “Hart To Hart” TV show, says she’d like to be on the 105 year plan.

For life, that is.

When asked how she deals with the aging process, she hinted that her diet may help her get through it, and insists she only wants longevity if the years are healthy.

“For a start, I’m maniacal about exercise. I’m a vegetarian, not a vegan, and I try to do the best I can to be aware of health hazards and do what I can to sustain myself in the most sensible way. Yes, I’d like to be on the 105-year plan, but only if the quality of those 105 years is good.”

Stefanie may have already bought her quality old age, since she’s been adhering to a diet without meat.

Vegetarians have a lower risk of dying from heart disease and low meat intake has been associated with greater longevity.

Let’s all aim for the 105 year plan, because the golden years are going to be great!

Joanna Krupa Weighs In On Effectiveness Of Nude PETA Ads

An article at Fox has people weighing in on the effectiveness of nudity in advertising.

PETA has a monopoly in the nude campaign niche, and Joanna Krupa, who posed in an ad for pet adoption, gave her thoughts as to whether or not nudity is appropriate for animal rights campaigns.

“I am happy with my body and have no issue with displaying it for something that is close to my heart and important to me, like selling a healthy body image, beautiful swimwear or, most importantly, raising awareness about the endless abuse against animals,” Krupa said.

“And it sticks to our minds, we pass it on to friends or discuss it with colleagues and that means ‘mission accomplished’ for the ad.”

PETA’s senior vice president Dan Matthews said,“Nothing attracts attention like nudity. It’s especially helpful when trying to get the attention of people who turn away from animal issues because they don’t want to hear about blood, guts, and suffering.”

“Our biggest campaign involves promoting veganism and fighting the obesity epidemic, and it’s more effective to showcase a fit vegan body when the person isn’t wearing much. There’s a lot of competition for consumers’ attention, so as a charity, we have to be creative and provocative in order to stay as visible as the cruel industries that we fight.”

They’re hot, creative and are only asking people to spay and neuter their pets or stop eating Big Macs.

How harmless can a full PETA be, and should some people in America stop complaining about it?

Gwyneth Paltrow All Smiles After Talking With GMA

Gwyneth Paltrow has given her Goop readers some details about how she got into shape for her latest role as Pepper Pots in Iron Man 2.

Besides the exercises shown in the video below that resemble some sort of dog relieving himself on the fire hydrant, Gwneth’s routine included some vegan wraps smothered in nut butter and kale juice!

Breakfasts consisted of almond milk with fruit, and lunches often had Gwyneth consuming tortilla wraps with almond butter and dates or avocado, tomato, cucumbers and jicama slivers.

Huh?

Jicama is a sweet root plant that resembles a turnip.

It’s cultivated in South America and very popular in Mexican cuisines.

Head on over to Goop to get the wrap recipes.

Time's 100 Most Influential People in the World Gala - Red Carpet

Let’s get a few things straight.

Judging from the hot dog named after her and from her own mouth, Betty White‘s no vegetarian.

She isn’t exactly down with animal rights either.

But she does have an interest in what she calls animal “health” and “welfare” and those interests have led her to support the Morris Animal Foundation for 45 years.

Betty told Starpulse, “Oh I think helping the animals is – that’s the lovely upside of any celebrity that happens. I’m not an animal activist. I’m not into anything political, demonstrations, or anything like that. I’m just into animal health and welfare. And have been with the Morris Animal Foundation, a health organization for 45 years, and with the Los Angeles Zoo for 45 years. Over the years of enjoying show business we’ve been able to help the animals.”

The foundation conducts research to improve the health of animals.

Research and testing always make an activist cringe, but here’s one non invasive and non pharmaceutical study that may help thousands of dogs get readopted.

The Canine Behavioral Assessment and Research Questionnaire (C-BARQ) is used to assess the behavior and temperment of relinquished dogs, but it is also very lengthy and as a result, shelters often don’t use it.

Behavioral scientists from the University of Pennsylvania have developed a shortened version that will allow shelter workers to determine an animal’s ability to successfully live in a home.

Results showed the shortened test is reliable, which could mean more returned dogs may find homes again.

Harrison Ford and fiancee Calista Flockhart have already welcomed an addition to their family.

Indiana Jones and his lady have adopted a few mixed breed dogs that were abandoned after their mother was hit by a car and left to fend for herself in the cold.

Troy Jackson, executive director of Northwest Animal Companions, had been given permission by the owner to nurse the dogs back to health, but something wacky happened and the owner filed grand theft charges against him.

After much media attention, including from Oprah and Ellen DeGeneres, all charges against Jackson were dropped.

Requests from animal rights activists convinced authorities not to return the dogs to the owner.

“They’ve gone from rags to riches,” Jackson said. “They’ll live a better life than you and me ever will.”

England, the pit bull, was released into the care of LCA after receiving medical treatment.

“We will do everything possible to find the person or persons responsible and make sure they are made accountable and punished to the full extent of the law for their actions,” Katherine Heigl stated, according to the LA Independent.
