Hugh Jackman has written to Nancy Pelosi, urging the Speaker of the House that the Improving Nutrition for America’s Children Act is passed this month. Sounds as if the actor who considered going vegan for the Wolverine sequel wants the same for America’s children as well.

In a letter to Pelosi, Jackman wrote:

“This crucial legislation would help schools serve more plant-based foods — fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes — because these foods have been shown to help children maintain a healthy weight and avoid disease. Schools should be able to purchase low-cost fruits and vegetables, and they should also have access to vegetarian entree options.”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 23rd, 2010 in Actors, Animal Issues, Comedians.

Ricky Gervais is throwing himself into another campaign to help animals. The comedian and actor supports the BUAV (British Union Abolition for the Vivisection of Animals) to stop the international trade of monkeys in research.

“Imprisoning monkeys and snatching their babies is a disgusting way to treat other primates”, said Ricky. “Monkeys are highly intelligent beings who feel pain and distress, just like us.”

Perhaps just as tortuous as imprisonment is the way these creatures and taken from the parents in the wild, according to the BUAV site.

Brendan Brazier

Brendan Brazier

Brendan Brazier has an exclusive interview with VegNews on all the details of how actor Hugh Jackman got in touch with him for some advice on training on a vegan diet and how Jackman agreed to write the foreward for the vegan triathlete and supplement creator’s latest edition of his book Thrive.

“In the past he had eaten a lot of chicken for his role, but he took a lot of Vega, too. It turned out I was going to New York City so he said “well why don’t you just come over,” so I went over to his place and we had a great chat and he told me how he was trying out veganism for environmental and health reasons and to set a good example for his kids. It’s not just for his own career anymore, which he wrote in the forward. He was listing the reasons why he was interested in Thrive, and he was concerned for the environment. That’s definitely something that he was aware of, and wanted to help instead of hurt.”

Star Trek Vulcans have already questioned the morality of eating animals, but just because Klingons are known for their taste for raw meat, doesn’t mean some don’t give up it.

Michael Dorn, best known for his role as Lt. Commander Worf on Star Trek: The Next Generation, revealed in an interview with Live Fit that he’s become a vegan over the past 2-3 years and the only thing he occasionally misses is the burger and fries. But this Klingon has found that “dressing up” any meatless patty is the trick.

“The only thing that I even think about missing is hamburgers and french fries,” Dorn begins.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 9th, 2010 in Actors, Business, Food & Drink, Restaurants.

Russell Brand learned the hard way how not asking for ingredients can turn a vegetarian’s meal sour. Or fishy.

The actor was sampling a dip while dining out when he realized it tasted like something formerly alive in the sea.

“About three days ago was the last time I ate an animal. I was in a restaurant and they have me some dips. One of them was taramosalata. I didn’t know and ate some and it tasted like disgusting fish,” Brand said.

Hugh Jackman Hot N Cold On Vegan Despite Brazier Book Foreword

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010 in Actors, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

Hugh Jackman is one confusing vegan wannabe/chicken eater.

Jackman wrote a foreword to one of vegan triathlete Brendan Brazier‘s books that contained the line, “there’s every chance that I will be a vegan by the time you read…”–crediting veganism for helping him put on lean muscle before filming X Men Origins:Wolverine in 2009.

Fast forward to today, Jackman’s reps confirm he is not a vegan.

However, what’s even more confusing is that at a press conference for the movie, Jackman emphasized that his ripped body had nothing to do with pea and hemp protein.
