Natalie Coughlin knows the importance of limiting her meat intake. And it’s so easy for this eleven time Olympic medalist to keep up her flexitarian diet since all she has to do is go straight to her own backyard garden.

“I really lean toward a plant-based diet,” Coughlin told Fitness Magazine. “I have seven vegetable beds, one is all kale since that’s one of the best foods for you.”

Cheech Marin is being honored at the ArtHamptons International Art Fair in Bridgehampton as arts patron of the year.

In addition to collecting art from a variety of genres, Marin has had the opportunity to meet with some exciting names in the field, including vegan artist Peter Max.

The two had an exchange on veganism, but it unfortunately wasn’t enough inspiration to convince Marin to add any veggie paintings to his collection.

Roy Halladay, pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, has filmed a promotional video for spaying and neutering pets for the Humane Society of the United States.

“As pet owners, we can help end the suffering of millions of dogs and cats,” said Halladay at the beginning of the video PSA. “Animal shelters struggle to assist the huge numbers of animal litters; many more suffer on the streets, never reaching the safety of a shelter. My family does our part in making sure our pets are spayed and neutered.”

Mary Whipple, U.S. Olympic rower who at the Beijing 2008 games helped her team snag its first Gold medal since 1984, is heading for London next week to defend the title.

“Before workouts, smoothies are my go-to,” Whipple told Diets in Review. “In the morning I add egg white powder for protein, banana, kale and any seasonal fruits with almond milk.”

Not everyone on the Women’s Rowing team may be vegetarian, but that hasn’t stopped them from indulging as a team in something suitable for even Whipple.

Aaron Simpson has finally made the transition to a vegan diet after three years of fighting as a vegetarian.

In a recent interview with Bleacher Report, the MMA fighter discussed how doing so has benefited his athleticism and also gives input on Arian Foster‘s recent decision to go vegan as well.

“People are coming out and talking smack about (Houston Texans running back) Arian Foster because he’s decided to become vegan. They are saying he’s not going to be the running back he was and he is going to lose muscle mass. That’s just B.S. You can get great plant proteins that are healthier than animal proteins. It’s just a matter of being disciplined about it.”

Jesse Eisenberg Humane Society Video To Protect Exotic Birds

Jesse Eisenberg has recorded a PSA for the Humane Society of the United States that advises against buying exotic birds in stores.

Eisenberg had the opportunity to voice the character of a Macaw in Rio, a film about the trafficking of exotic birds and the destruction of their natural habitats.

“If an animal’s natural home is in the wild, then chances are, that’s where it belongs,” Eisenberg said. “Unfortunately, the demand for these intelligent, complex creatures—whether captive-bred or wild caught—is decimating the wild parrot species.”
