Russell Brand Chooses Gardening Over Sex

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 28th, 2011 in Actors, Food & Drink, Gardening.

Russell Brand has said in the past his goal is to be a celibate vegan.

His recent marriage to Katy Perry may make that goal a little harder to attain. So he’s revamped his development plan from “no sex” to “less sex, more gardening.”

Hey, that could be the national gardening associations’ new slogan.

“I can’t believe I used to have sex 20 times a week, especially now I’m married,” Brand said. “But now I’m a bloody good gardener.”

Guess Brand has discovered there is more than one good use for a ho(e)….whoa, okay, back to the gardening discussion.

“New York Times” Article On Veggie Burger Comeback

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 28th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Restaurants.

The New York Times has written an article on the soaring popularity of veggie burgers, for omnivores, vegetarians and vegans.

The article cites a study done by market research company Mintel, which found there was a 26% increase in items labeled “vegetarian” or “vegan” between 2008 and 2010.

The veggie burger used to be the item on the menu that everyone–even vegetarians–hated. It was either a stereotyped mush of carrots, rice and oatmeal or a sinewy textured soy patty that offered no taste.

Much has changed at both gourmet restaurants and fast food chains.

Ellen DeGeneres recently featured authors Kathy Freston and Tal Ronnen on her show for a vegan segment.

Freston helps one family make the gradual transition of adding more vegan meals into its diet to combat some health problems like high cholesterol.

This is a family that professes to eat meat every day and they’re completely open to the idea with one caveat: dad hopes his beer doesn’t get taken away.

Like many people born in India, Padma Lakshmi grew up in a vegetarian family.

Unfortunately, that changed as a teenager when she lived in New York and gradually started eating the Standard American Diet of bologna, pizza and burgers.

Bob’s Burgers got a lukewarm reaction from us, but the weekly alternative newspaper Boise Weekly has complaints its burger experience was served raw in an article titled, “Bob’s Burgers Might Make You Go Vegetarian.”

“Bob’s Burgers, about two months into its debut, is a show about Bob Belcher and his family–a wife with a grating New York accent (voiced by a man), a dumb son who doesn’t understand anything and two dumb daughters who don’t understand anything. They’re trying to run a profitable hamburger shop.”
