Lea Michele Shares Vegan Cupcake Secret With “Glee” Cast

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, October 1st, 2010 in Actresses, Chefs, Food & Drink, Recipes.

Lea Michele‘s cast mate on Glee, Chris Colfer, joked about putting meat in one of her vegetarian dishes. Totally NOT funny, but the joke is on him and the rest of the cast because Michele once secretly gave the guys (and gals) on the set some cupcakes without telling them they were animal-free.

“I had vegan cupcakes on my birthday,” Michele said at PETA’s 30th Anniversary Gala. “Once you eat a vegan cupcake–I once put out vegan cupcakes for the whole crew and didn’t tell them that they were vegan. And they were like, those are the best cupcakes I ever had. And then the next day I was like ‘They were vegan. See, you can eat vegan food.'”

Singer Lady Gaga gestures as she speaks at a rally in Portland, Maine, September 20, 2010 urging members of the Senate to repeal the military rule banning openly gay people from serving in the armed forces. In response to criticism from animal rights activists for wearing a meat bikini and meat dress, Lady Gaga has threatened to wear tofu to make the vegetarians mad. Or so she thinks it will.

During a performance in Philadelphia, Gaga said, “What’s everyone’s big problem with my meat dress?”

“Haven’t they seen me wear leather? Next time, I’ll wear a tofu dress and the soy milk police will come after me.”

Actually the soy milk police will probably give Gaga a key to the city if she wears soy clothing, given the fact it’s cruelty-free and eco-friendly.

Facebook Employees’ Cafeteria Options–Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, October 1st, 2010 in Business, Food & Drink, Tech.

PALO ALTO, CA - AUGUST 18: Facebook employees write on the Facebook 'wall' following a news conference at Facebook headquarters August 18, 2010 in Palo Alto, California. Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of Facebook Places, a new application that allows Facebook users to document places they have visited. Like other successful tech companies, Facebook provides its employees with deliciously good food perks. Josef Desimone, a former chef at Google, leads the food operations and says because he makes people so happy at work, he’s like “Santa Claus with knives.”

That sounds creepy, but after learning about the vegetarian, vegan and sustainable choices Mark Zuckerberg‘s subordinates get for free (yes, that’s three meals a day), we’ve come to the conclusion that knife-wielding Santa gives good little vegs all they ask for year round.

Employees may start the day with vegan breakfast waffles.

Charlotte Ross Shares Her Dreams For Animals–Better Farming, Adoption

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 30th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Fashion.

Charlotte Ross was in attendance at PETA’s 30th anniversary gala, but the NYPD Blue actress supports several other animal rights and other organizations, including the Humane Society of the United States and the Jane Goodall Institute.

Ross shared with Celebrity Baby Scoop that her dreams are to have better conditions for farm animals and have more shelter animals adopted instead of euthanized.

“Whether you’re a vegetarian or not, is not the issue. My fight is for all animals to have a very basic and fundamental right which is to live a healthy and torture-free life. To let animals ‘live’ in crammed cages where they can’t move, turn around or feel the sun is inhumane. And, many facilities don’t put their very sick or dying animals out of their misery but, instead let them die a slow, painful death and then have the nerve to throw it on our dinner plates. These farming practices should be outlawed.”

"The Tofu Tollbooth"

"The Tofu Tollbooth"

Dar Williams is a singer-songwriter who collaborated with Elizabeth Zipern to create a one stop book filled with dining suggestions for the vegetarian traveler, The Tofu Tollbooth. The concept is great, plus the book stays true to being environmentally friendly as it’s printed with soy ink on recyclable paper.

“It’s a directory of natural food stores,” Williams told Windy City Times. “So, that’s the link; because I’m a traveler. And, actually, I’m a terrible cook. I mean, a really bad cook. So, it would be kind of funny if people ( laughs ) thought it was a cookbook. They probably imagine me in an Indian print skirt over a pot of lentils. I am so the grab-and-go kind of bad eater.”
