“I am 51, but look younger. My doctor thinks it is my veganism – I’ve been vegan since I was 13. I try not to have fried food and don’t drink alcohol or smoke. I also do yoga and t’ai chi. It’s important to learn how to be relaxed; if you are tense and miserable, it stamps itself on your face.”

Time Stands Still Broadway Opening Night - Arrivals & Curtain Call

Alicia Silverstone just embarked on a brand new project–a role in the Donald Margulies play Time Stands Still.

Alicia chatted with the NY Mag at one of her favorite veggie restaurants, Pure Food & Wine about her new role.

Alicia may be snacking on edamame and acai juice between Acts now, but it wasn’t always that way.

“I was a total meat-eater, are you kidding me? I was 21, and when the word health came up, it meant, ‘Oh, you’re telling me to lose weight.’ I had quite a bit of pressure about my weight and stuff. So I said, ‘Fuck you. I’m going to eat whatever I want. I don’t care.’ I just totally rebelled—I was anti-health. My love for animals is what saved me.”

After the NY Mag suggested Alicia’s character Mandy in Time Stands Still is somewhat like her Clueless character Cher-superficial and bubbly-Alicia insisted that was where the similarities ended.

“Cher was a teenage girl and Mandy is a professional person who runs entire events. She meets her lover at a launch party for a book on Darfur. Just like everybody, she’s had pain, but she’s not going to war.”

JD Salinger Was Mostly Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 29th, 2010 in Authors, Food & Drink.

JD Salinger

JD Salinger

JD Salinger, famed author of The Catcher In The Rye, passed just weeks after his 91st birthday.

Publisher Roger Lathbury met with Salinger in the late 80s, asking if he could publish Hapworth 16, 1924.

The two had lunch together and The Washington Post says Salinger confessed to being “largely vegetarian.”

When Salinger recommended a soup with Parmesan, Lathbury said he was vegetarian.

Salinger answered, “I am largely a vegetarian,” and Lathbury told the Washington Post, “I didn’t know what that meant — sort of like saying, ‘I am a little bit pregnant.”

Was Salinger really a flexitarian?

Or trying to impress the publisher?

Kelly Osbourne Smells Like Vegetables

2nd Annual Golden Globes Party Saluting Young Hollywood - Arrivals

Kelly Osbourne is smelling like vegetables!

During a recent Tweet, she shared this lovely fact that may have been TMI:

“i smell like a vegetarian I am sweating the smell of vegetables! it keeps making me laugh!”

Is Kelly smelling great because she’s following the rules of the Meat-Free Monday camapaign she showed up to support months ago?

If you’re a veg, you already know you smell better than the carnivores, but here’s a little scientific evidence to back up your claim.

When researchers put several men on meat and non-meat diets for 2 weeks, the odors of the non-meat eaters were judged to be more attractive, more pleasant and less intense.

Guys headed for the clubs tonight might want to chow down on some celery.

It might just be your lucky vegetable.

Food Network “Unwrapped” Sweet And Sara Vegan Smores (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 29th, 2010 in Business, Food & Drink, Videos.

The Food Network’s Unwrapped recently featured New York based Sweet and Sara, a company that makes vegan marshmallows, smores and other desserts.

Unwrapped gives the behind the scenes look at how some foods are created.

The crew at Sweet and Sara is all about putting the ingredient of TLC into their products. No machine manufactured smores are coming from this company.

“Our smores are made entirely from scratch,” said Sara Sohn, founder of Sweet & Sara.  “We hand scoop every graham cookie, we weigh out every marshmallow filling, we handcoat every s’more with chocolate, no mass production, no industrial equipment.”

Sweet and Sara peanut butter smores were featured on Rachael Ray.

Watch the clip for some sinfully delicious food voyeurism into the Sweet and Sara facility.

Kelly Carlson Wendie Malick–Wild Horse Education For Congress

The CW & AT&T's "Melrose Place" Premiere Party - Arrivals

Nip/Tuck actress Kelly Carlson and Just Shoot Me‘s Wendie Malick, along with Wayne Pacelle and other representatives from the Humane Society, took time to educate Congress on the horse welfare.

They were there to lobby for bill H.R. 503/S. 727, which, according to US News, prevents transport of American horses to slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada and stops roundups of wild horses by the U.S. government.

Equine slaughterhouses don’t exist in the US, but horses are often rounded up there and sent to these countries where they are slaughtered and the meat is bought by Belgian owned companies and consumed in Europe.

Sounds like the group kept their concern for animals when it was time for lunch, as they conducted a press conference at K Street’s Teatro Goldoni over what sounded like a vegetarian dish–fresh beet salad and angel hair pasta.

Carlson also participates in horse rescue and rehabilitation with an organization in Canada.

“Celebrity Big Brother” Evicts Nicola–Nicola T Rebuilds Cow

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 in Models, Not So Vegetarian, Reality TV.

Celebrity Big Brother - Fourth Eviction

Nicola Tappenden, otherwise known as Nicola T, was the seventh person to be evicted from the Big Brother House on the UK reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother.

Nicola didn’t go down without a fight–but based on one of the tasks she attempted, maybe she should have just surrendered from the minute the show started.

To win a message from her family, Nicola took on the disgusting challenge from the Tree of Temptation, which consisted of rebuilding a cow with that looked to be bloody flesh.

Nice try, but that still won’t make the heifer moo again.

Take a look at the pic, if you have a vomit bag nearby and decide for yourself if that’s real.

If that doesn’t make someone want to go vegetarian, what will?

AFI FEST 2009 Screening Of Precious: Based On The Novel 'PUSH' By Sapphire

During her chat with Oprah, Alicia Silverstone brought up the subject of how being vegetarian helps you, um, do #2 better.

“I will say this,” Oprah said about being vegan. “Your poop is fabulous.”

“Don’t you want to bring your friends in and say ‘Look at this beautiful thing,'” Alicia added.

With all the fiber consumed from healthy vegetarian food like fruits and vegetables and beans and rice, you’ll always have art to showcase to your friends and family.

Oprah’s not vegan, but she did try the diet for 21 days as part of a cleansing.

Bet she misses the good ol’ days of plentiful poop.
