"A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson's" Benefit - Arrivals

Rachael Ray threw a food party at the annual South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.

There are no official vegetarian chefs on the Food Network yet, but thankfully there are several chefs who are highlighting healthier, flexitarian options and incorporating vegetarian recipes into their repertoire.

Ray featured a vegetarian option at the SXSW fest, something she says is normal for any party she caters for.

“I always do a meat, a vegetarian and a poultry item,” Ray told Wall Street Journal.

This year Ray offered vegetarian taquitos that she said were, “really tasty to snack on.”

If you couldn’t make it to SXSW to sample the taquitos, have a festival at home with this Potato Soyrizo Taquito recipe.

President Obama Addresses The Passage Of Health Care Bill By The House

Barack Obama doesn’t want to hear a lecture about his cholesterol, but Dr. Neal Barnard, president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, has given him one anyway.

Besides the gentle nudge to give up cigarettes, Dr. Barnard explains that the best way for the President of the United States to get his numbers to an acceptable range is to accept more vegetables–and less meat.

Dr. Barnard points out that going vegetarian, even part time, will impact Obama’s cholesterol more than genes and exercise.

“First, exercise won’t lower your cholesterol. It may bump up “good” cholesterol slightly and improve your basketball game or your stride, but you definitely can’t count on it to lower your “bad” cholesterol. It won’t.”

“Second, we almost certainly cannot blame genes. For the vast majority of people, high cholesterol comes down to diet.”

And while less red meat is great, you really need to go veg all the way to get the full benefits of diet on cholesterol.

“Third, switching from beef to chicken and fish has almost no effect on cholesterol. It lowers “bad” cholesterol only about 5 percent–and that’s not enough.”

“The answer is behind your house, in the White House garden. Foods from plants have essentially no cholesterol and are free of the animal fat that causes the body to make cholesterol. If you skipped meat, dairy products, and eggs for even a few weeks, chances are your cholesterol would drop right into the normal range.”

Hope Obama is convinced.

Is JT expanding his palate to include seitan several times a week instead of steak?

Or is going veggie all the way?

Kelly Bensimon Thinks Playboy Ad Trumps PETA

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 22nd, 2010 in Reality TV.

Hot Off Her Playboy Debut Kelly Bensimon Ironically Heads To Fashion Week!

Kelly Bensimon has continually ran her mouth about her love of fur, chicken, and everything not animal friendly.

The Real Housewives Examiner quoted Kelly comparing her Playboy shoot to appearing in an ad for PETA.

Apparently, she thinks there is no comparison.

“I don’t really think that there is any comparison between PETA and Playboy. Being photographed for Playboy is the ultimate sex symbol. It’s not like you’re posing nude, you’re posing nude for the most infamous book in the world. To be 41 and in Playboy is a really surreal moment.”

If meat and potatoes girl had any sense, she’d know that PETA ads, such as the “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ones are hands down, the sexiest.

There’s nothing sexier than scantily clad to nearly nude women (and men) who pose not only for publicity, but to gain attention to the important cause of treating animals humanely and with compassion.

Maybe she can take a clue from housewife Bethenny Frankel, who posed in a PETA ad, and consider giving up fur for good.

Dead isn’t sexy, Kelly.

Now please stop talking and stick a faux chicken wing in your mouth.

WNBA player Candace Parker put the basketball down for a moment to let everyone know wearing animals for fur should never be part of the game.

The MVP and Rookie of the year brought along her rescue dog Fendi, who steals just as much of the camera as Candace does.

“I feel very passionate about the fur campaign for PETA,” Candace says in the video below. “I feel like it’s very cruel-what they do to animals. I love my dog and couldn’t imagine anybody harming her.”

Amanda Cohen has been busy at NYC’s Dirt Candy making changes to the menu to refresh the not so old vegetarian restaurant she opened less than two years ago.

Change is allowing Cohen to introduce a vegetable version of a Chinese dim sum favorite–barbecue Pork Buns.

“We use carrots instead,” Cohen told Village Voice. “The buns will be different colors based on the different colors of carrots — there’ll be pink, orange, and yellow. They’ll have a slightly barbecued carrot filling and come with a little carrot cucumber salad, and I’m trying to figure out how to make sesame halvah to sprinkle on top.”

If you’re a fan of the kimchi doughnuts, sorry to say the carrot buns have replaced them.
