“With the release of the documentary Blackfish and PETA’s educational campaign, the public now knows about the devastating effects of keeping orcas captive and closely confined at SeaWorld. Frustrated orcas like Tilikum have worn their teeth down to the nubs by chewing on their enclosures, their dorsal fins collapse, and they die prematurely, reject their young, and harm and kill humans. SeaWorld then tries to mask the orcas’psychosis with psychotropic drugs. As the public hears about this, ticket sales decline. When will SeaWorld develop a plan to move the orcas to a sea pen in a natural setting in line with public opinion?”

Or is going veggie all the way?

The Canadian Seal Hunt is never a pleasant topic to cover and it’s expected that the current hunt this year will kill over 300,000 seals.

Lush Cosmetics, a company adored by several celebs, such as Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, and Jude Law, offers cruelty-free cosmetics to animal lovers and is now extending its business principles in an effort to curb the seal hunt.

From the Lush website:

“We believe that the consumer has the ability to make powerful choices everyday and this is why we are reaching out to you, our customer, to help end the Canadian Commercial Seal Hunt. Most of you shop with LUSH not only because we make wonderful handmade products for your bath, hair and body but also because of who we are and what we believe in. We believe in making products by hand, using fresh ingredients, not testing on animals, supporting our communities and protecting the planet.”

“Governments around the globe, including the US, have spoken out against Canada’s seal hunt. The seal hunt is essentially government sanctioned cruelty to animals. Recent polls show that nearly 69% of Canadians and nearly 80% of Americans are opposed to the seal hunt. Yet, the government continues to spend millions of Canadian taxpayers dollars to help support it.”

Lush has drafted an online petition that will be sent from Lush’s headquarters to the Prime Minster of Canada. So far, over 9,000 signatures have been collected!

When a celebrity associates themselves with a cruelty-free product you can’t help but get excited, even if the star isn’t vegetarian.

Lush is a collection of handmade cosmetics that are never tested on animals, vegetarian, and some are even vegan. The UK company’s products have been used by stars such as Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, and Jude Law.

Yes, Jude Law. Cosmetics just aren’t for the gals, you know. Lush has shaving cream, plus all sorts of moisturizers an eco-friendly man needs. Because even though nicking yourself with a razor may hurt, the pain an animal feels in a cosmetic laboratory is far worse.

Lush cosmetics make a great stocking stuffer for holidays gifts this year. Be sure to send this link to friends and family so they’ll know exactly what you’re looking for.
