Madonna washes the dishes in a poster display at the Dolce and Gabbana store in New York for their Spring Fashion ad campaign

Being a personal chef for celebrities sure has its perks, primarily in the form of good pay and entertaining stories.

The New York Post has written an article on some of the more outrageous requests personal chefs have taken from the likes of Hollywood, including fresh brewed coffee used not for drinking but for an enema.

Still, there are stars who’s demands make perfect sense, as they’re not for outrageously narcissistic purposes but to maintain good health on the road, thus avoiding the constipation that requires the decaf enema.

Madonna, for example, has asked her chefs to make twig tea and support her macrobiotic diet which consist of 50 percent whole grains.

Both Paul McCartney and Peter Frampton are strict vegetarians, and when Paul’s private chef can’t do it all himself, he drafts the hotel staff into vegetarian cooking duty.

Michael Jackson would request fruit juice, granola and almond milk for breakfast every morning.

The vegetarian  requests sound pretty normal, not far from what any ordinary non meat eater might encounter when traveling.

TV Land Awards 2010

Love Boat actor turned politician Fred Grandy was caught at the TV Land Awards by Mother Nature Network giving the green tip of avoid meat.

The Harvard educated and four term Congressman who considers himself a “practicing and devout vegan,” said “Want to keep the planet green? Don’t eat things that are red.”

Yes, Grandy’s a Repubican, but he’s not talking about munching on GOP members.

We assume red things from the ground like tomatoes are cool too.

Heather Mills Almond Powder Explosion In Airport

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010 in Celebrity Tweets, Food & Drink.

The Cold Kiss - Express Black Book Screening Arrivals

Heather Mills experienced an explosion at an airport recently when the almond powder in one of her bags burst from its case, covering her clothes in whiteness.

Through a series of Tweets, Heather explained the situation, which she found funny even if airport officials didn’t.

“hilarious, vegan Almond powder exploded in case over all my clothes, then check in girl insists I lighten my case, I explained explosion occurring inside but she was adamant that i lighten my case, suffice to say, almond powder covered Stanstead airport.”

“Probably cost more to clean up than the 2 kilo overload. Saga continues through the airport but best mate ruth of 22 yrs have seen it all and laugh it off.”

The suspicious powder is not only gluten-free, but serves as an alcohol free alternative to almond extract and goes well as a non-dairy addition in coffee.

It’s also been suggested for use as a topping for oatmeal, fruit and making pie fillings taste like (prepare for horrible pun) da bomb!

Stephanie Pratt "Be Nice To Bunnies " PETA iphone app Ad

Stephanie Pratt has hopped out of her clothes to draw attention to the very important cause of using cruelty-free cosmetics.

Stephanie has joined forces with PETA to bring you an iphone application that is hooked up with the animal rights organization’s database of cruelty-free products.

The app allows you to search by manufacturer, brand or product category.

According to Starpulse, Stephanie’s full ad was deemed too racy (imagine!) to put on the iphone app, so PETA is using the clothed image of The Hills star for it.

More from Starpulse:

“Some companies, such as Clorox and Unilever, still test their personal-care and household products on animals despite the availability of more sophisticated methods. No law requires that products be tested on animals, and the results of such testing cannot be reliably applied to humans.”

The app is available for $1.99 and more information can be found at itunes.

School Lunch Call-In Day–Contact Your Rep About HR 4870 Today!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010 in Children, Events, Food & Drink, Politicians.

Primary School

Taking a break from traditional celebrity gossip to bring some equally star worthy news!

Today is School Lunch Call-In Day, sponsored by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

The day is meant to let your representative know you support the HR 4870 Healthy School Meals Act and they should too!

The Act will allow school districts across the United States to incorporate more plant based meals in the menus, as well as offer non dairy beverages as a standard rather than an exception.

It’s pretty simple to let the rep in your state know you want vegetarian lunches at schools.

1. Learn about the bill if you haven’t already.
2. Locate your representative.
3. If you’re at a loss of words, here are some important points to bring up when you call.

The meat and potatoes offering in school lunches is about as old as this black and white photo.

Just because you were forced to eat cheesesticks and salads every day instead of meatloaf doesn’t mean other children have to.

Contact your rep and voice your support today!

Alicia Silverstone Throws Animal Poop At “Butter” Truck

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, April 20th, 2010 in Actresses, Film & TV.

opening night performance of John Logans 'RED' New York City

Alicia Silverstone just finished filming one of the first scenes for her new film Butter, and it seems she may have been type casted–if only for one scene.

As previously mentioned, the film is about the lives of people involved in a butter carving contest, and is meant to poke fun of the 2008 presidential election where a younger, inexperienced candidate upsets the projected winner.

Alicia’s character protested against Red Ribbon, the company that sponsors the butter carving contest and a competitor wants to use the video of her protest against her.

Ah, yes, you knew there would mudslinging in the politics of butter.

“Basically, my husband, who’s played by Rob Corddry, and I foster home this child who’s been passed from home to home and can’t catch a break. We’re the straight people, so we don’t do anything too ridiculous. But at one point, Jennifer Garner’s character tries to use old footage of [my character] at a PETA rally against Red Ribbon, the fictional butter company that sponsors the contest, to bring down me and my child. I got to wear my PETA shirt.”

During the protest, Alicia’s character throws manure at the butter truck.

Wasn’t she the actress that said dairy was nothing but poo anyway?

Actually, that was pus and blood.

Oh, well. Similar cuisine category.

Ellen DeGeneres Comic Book. Bluewater Productions

Ellen DeGeneres Comic Book. Bluewater Productions

Ellen DeGeneres Bluewater Productions Comic Book has already sold out and is being reprinted next month.

That’s great news for the Humane Society of the United States, who benefits from a portion of the proceeds from the book, but members of the Sportsmen’s Alliance are targeting the book’s production company like they target deer in the forest.

After an unsuccessful attempt to halt the book’s relationship with the Humane Society by writing to the publisher, the group posted on their website an urge for members to contact Bluewater individually.

And so they did.

“Headed by vegans” is what one writer said of the Humane Society.

The horror!

“I am amazed that a comics publisher would elevate a person of ‘DeGenerates’ (sic) background …Children are the readers of comics, and they do not need indoctrination into less-than-acceptable lifestyles…”

A more appropriate lifestyle suggestion was not included, but it could be assumed it consists of teaching children to mount animal heads on the wall and eat anything you’re capable of shooting.

Bluewater publisher Darren Davis explained it is completely up to the celebrity what charitable organization profits from sales.

“Ellen chose the Humane Society” said Davis, “an animal rights organisation she has supported for years.”

The Humane Society, as well as any other charity a celebrity featured in the comic book series chooses, receives 30% of the profits from sales.

Find out more about Davey Havok’s Macbeth X Zu Boutique
shoe at peta2.com.

AFI and Blaqk Audio band member Davey Havok has designed a new pair of shoes in collaboration with MacBeth shoes, a very vegan friendly company.

In this video, Havok points out that every component of the shoe is animal part free, including the glue, which often is not.

“Sometimes you’ll find a shoe that you think is vegan, when sadly vegan glue is made of animals,” Havok said.

Hmm…think he means faux vegan glue is made of animals.

The shoes are available in limited edition and information on a nearest store can be located here.

If you’re feeling really lucky, enter to win a free pair.

Some men have commented on this site before about the lack of male vegan professional shoes.

Sorry to say these are still in the casual category, but maybe Davey will invent a “Day In the Record Company Corporate Office” line that will suit your fancy.
