If you’ve ever attended a state or county fair, you may have felt left out after discovering all the selection of fried foods contained meat. Now, vegans can go downhill as well with fried cupcakes shown in this video.

Disturbingly delicious looking, this may be used as last resort to entice the otherwise animal product junk food addict to cross over to our side.

Mentioned in the clip is a scheduled appearance by environmentalist Julia Butterfly Hill on Saturday, June 12 at 11:30AM at the Schlafly Tap Room in St Louis, Missouri. Hill became famous for living in a 1,500 year old tree in the Redwood Forest and has written the book, “The Legacy of Luna.”

The event includes vegetarian and vegan lunch and cupcakes from Sweet Art.

No word on if they’ll be fried but don’t count on it.

Martha Stewart Eco Detergent Ranks Poor With Consumer Reports

Martha Stewart attends the Vanity Fair Party during the 9th Annual Tribeca Film Festival at the New York State Supreme Court in New York, New York on April 20, 2010 Fame Pictures, Inc

Sure, we love Martha Stewart, but will her new animal-friendly and eco-detergent get the acai stain out of our white jackets?

Tests conducted by Consumer Reports, unfortunately, say no.

After staining swatches with compounds such as wine, blood and grass, the group tested 50 different detergents for their ability to clean and remove spots in conventional and high efficient washing machines.

“In conventional top loaders, there was barely a difference between the swatches washed in Martha’s detergent and those washed in plain water. The results from high-efficiency washers were only slightly better.”

Big Brother‘s vegan housemate Yvette Martyn has a real big brother looking after her.

Gwyn Martyn, a stockbroker, is confident his little sister will get along just fine, despite her dietary restrictions.

“They often have small budgets for food and people don’t often like making separate dishes for vegetarians,” he said, “but she is happy eating pasta, so hopefully she will be okay.”

Pasta’s not the refined starch carbohydrate monster it was labeled by the anti-veggie villains like proponents of low carb and high meat diets. Enriched grain pasta is not only low in sodium, it’s a great source of protein for vegetarians and provides a fantastic energy boost with its complex carbohydrates that are released slowly over time.

Rachael Ray joined a bi-partisan group on Thursday to help unveil changes to the Child Nutrition Act.

The bill proposes that more students have more access to school meals, including breakfasts, and would extend the umbrella for assistance for low-income students, making it easier to access meals without the hassles of paperwork that might otherwise deny them based on a small margin declaring them ineligible. It would also extend school lunch programs during the summer for certain programs like camps in rural areas.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, said in a press release that although the program is a start, it doesn’t address the issue of high fat foods in school lunches or providing enough plant based options.

Mary McCartney‘s favorite vegetarian snack is an old standby–peanut butter and jelly, something she learned to love from watching Sesame Street.

And although PB & J sandwiches make a great item to carry in school lunches, McCartney says she doesn’t force her lifestyle on her children, even though they have chosen to be vegetarian.

“They don’t have to be,” McCartney said. “It would be their choice. I don’t like to force it on people. I don’t like to be told what to do, so I don’t like to tell them what to do.”

PB & J may be older than Big Bird, but there are numerous variations of the sandwich you can try when things get boring.
