Ruben Studdard is scheduled to perform at the Real Men Can Cook event in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia Railroad Department for Father’s Day. The event will feature live performances and food prepared by various chefs and is meant to encourage African-American men to get in the kitchen while raising money for several charities: Communities in Schools of Georgia and Atlanta, The Ruben Studdard Foundation, Choices for Kids and Real Men Charities, Inc.

Studdard, who lost 100 pounds going a vegan diet, ranks among the men who can cook and he recently shared his formula for a vegan red velvet cake during a phone call with the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

“Organic unbleached flower, raw sugar, vanilla extract, red food coloring, apple sauce, soy yogurt, baking powder, salt, and soy milk,” Studdard said.

Either Studdard is truly a real cooking genius and never measures an ingredient or the AJC needs to publish this recipe immediately! If time permits, Studdard may be able to prepare his favorite dessert for the event.

Studdard must have gotten his cooking skills from his mother, grandfather and uncle because he claims dad can’t cook much more than vegan hotdog.

“My grandfather was an excellent cook. My uncle is one of the best cooks in the world. My mom kind of taught me the basics when I was a teenager and once I got out on my own it was just something I wanted to do.”

The event takes place June 20th from 3-6 PM. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door for adults; $10 in advance, $15 at the door for children. For more information, visit realmencook.com/atlanta.
