Veronicas’ Jess Origliasso Says Screw Fur, PETA Loves It

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Fur.

TheBongoVirus.com New Years Eve Party - Arrivals

Jess Origliasso, member of the pop duo The Veronicas was doing green and good when she was discovered by PETA agents and asked to do a naked anti-fur ad.

Origliasso was riding the New York subway wearing a faux fur jacket that read, “F*** Fur” painted on the back.

Anyone with a message this blatant is clearly PETA ad talent, so they approached with the idea which she is strongly considering.

“Lisa and I support any foundation that is willing to educate and make a stand for animal liberation,” she told Confidential.

“Death for these animals is a horror story – the most common method used for killing foxes is electrocution. I can’t speak for Lisa, but I admire the approach to the eye-catching photo shoots PETA do to get the important message out there.

“I would definitely love to be involved in something like that.”

If she chooses to accept the offer, she’ll be following the footsteps of fellow celebrity Aussie ladies who have worked with the organization like Natalie Imbruglia, Sophie Monk, and Missy Higgins.

Bethenny Frankel Serves Up Hummus With Pepperidge Farm

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Reality TV.

15th Annual

Bethenny Frankel, celebrity natural food chef and star of Bravo Network’s, “The Real Housewives of New York City,” has teamed up with Pepperidge Farms to encourage football fanatics to have healthy, wholesome snacks on game day.

Too bad they won’t get to watch the veggie porn ad as well.

Frankel, although not known as a vegetarian, has long been an advocate for healthier eating choices and started Bethenny Bakes, a company that offers egg and dairy free baked goods and custom tailored meals for clients with special diets, such as vegan.

One of the recipes she’s offered for Game Day is a vegan Lemon Basil Hummus Dip served with Pepperidge Farm® Baked Naturals Toasted Wheat Crisps.

It’s great that Bethenny has chosen to make a traditionally vegetarian dish mainstream by suggesting it as Super Bowl grub.

Now maybe more husky, burly men will include chickpeas on the shopping list with Coors beer during the next big sports night.

Live Aid Artists 20 Years On - Studio

Not long ago, it was discovered that a Liverpool McDonald’s restaurant had pictures of Paul McCartney and other ex Beatles on its wall. The news caused quite a stir with McCartney being a vegetarian who obviously wouldn’t support the fare served at McDonald’s.

Chrissie Hynde’s vegan Italian eatery, The Vegiterranean, has got it right though: Veg people in a veg restaurant.

If you’re lucky enough to dine there or even stop by and visit, you’ll find pictures of celebrities like Joss Stone, Morrisssey, Joaquin Phoenix, Paul McCartney, and even Chrissie herself on the wall of vegetarian fame.

O.A.R.’s Marc Roberge Says Turn The Fur Car Around

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 in Fur, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Earth Day Network & Green Apple Festival Present Earth Day on the Mall

O.A.R front man Marc Roberge has recorded a Public Service Announcement against the fur industry.

Singer for the band known for it’s hits as “Love and Memories” and “Shattered (Turn The Car Around)” is the proud owner, along with his wife, of three dogs-two terrier mixes and an 11 year old pit bull-so it makes sense he’d want to speak out against an industry where in some places even cats and dogs are used and skinned alive.

“I just find it so hard to believe that people find this practice acceptable at all, and they flaunt it,” Roberge said in an interview with PETA. “Makes me sick, to be honest. Do people crave attention that much? It is laughable that someone can’t see how barbaric wearing fur truly is.”

He advises the best way to get involved with helping animals is to volunteer at a shelter.

“My wife did that growing up and it definitely shaped a caring side of her that grows deeper every year.”

Dirt Candy Still Gets Veg Lovin’ Despite Cohen Insults

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, January 27th, 2009 in Business, Chefs, Food & Drink, Restaurants.

The Gothamist

Amanda Cohen, owner and chef at New York City’s Dirt Candy, ruffled some faux feathers not long ago when she insulted some of her vegan and possibly vegetarian potential clients.

Cohen eats fish, but still is running a vegetarian restaurant in the East Village of the city.

She openly says she doesn’t care about the politics or health of vegetarianism, she’s just there to make good food. Other vegetarian restaurants have been criticized by Moby’s ex chef because she feels that although they’re labeled as “vegetarian,” they’re really vegan, and she likes her butter, cream, and cheese.

Not to mention she’s called out “people with allergies and people who have their funny diet things like ‘Oh, I’m only eating white food today!’ ” and “‘I’m on a liquid diet. . . . Can you blend it for me?’ ” according to the Gothamist.

You’d think she’d alienate everyone. But a writer for the New Yorker reported that a group of mixed vegetarians and non vegetarians seemed happy dining there recently.

Even a guy with a PETA logo on his hat only had the portion sizes to complain about, saying they weren’t big enough.

So maybe us veggie folk (you offended vegans, too) should head to 430 E. 9th St. next time we’re visiting New York and give her a try.

After all, she could be the first master of faux foie gras.

Russell Simmons Says Vegan In New Orleans Is Difficult

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, January 27th, 2009 in Authors, Business, Food & Drink.

Around Park City - 2009 Sundance Film Festival Day 1

New Orleans is alive and kicking and according to the New York Post, “the place for upscale travelers to visit this winter.”

The Big Easy certainly provides warmer weather than what many of us are experiencing now and the variety of food and culture rich spots such as the French Quarter, make celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Martha Stewart, and Brad Pitt all repeat fans.

Like any traveling adventure, a visit to New Orleans for vegetarians and vegans requires planning in terms of where to eat, and hip hop mogul Russell Simmons admits to the temptation of all the non vegan goodies.

“It’s the most difficult place to be vegan in the world,” he said. “I have found a lot of vegan food and vegan jambalaya, but the other food is so attractive!”

Not to fear, as online guides such as VegGuide.org, give you the rundown on every veg and veg friendly restaurant in New Orleans or anywhere else.

Vegetarians Have Better Sex, Super Bowl Fans Won’t Know

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, January 27th, 2009 in Pop Culture, Videos.

‘Veggie Love’: PETA’s Banned Super Bowl Ad
PETA is claiming that vegetarians have better sex and want to spread the news. But football fans will have to get this information elsewhere.

Their ad was rejected by NBC for the Super Bowl because it was deemed too sexy.

Some reasons included, “rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin,” a woman “screwing herself with broccoli.”

Wow! That is softcore veggie porn.

If PETA would cut some additional clips from the scene, it might be more suitable, according to NBC officials:

licking pumpkin

touching her breast with her hand while eating broccoli

pumpkin from behind between legs

rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin

screwing herself with broccoli (fuzzy)

asparagus on her lap appearing as if it is ready to be inserted into vagina

licking eggplant

rubbing asparagus on breast

Sounds like if PETA makes all those edits, they’d only have 2 seconds of video left. The group is well known for its provocative attempts to promote vegetarianism and some say it only backfires as it turns people off to see woman treated as…well, meat.

PETA said the list made them blush. We’re just giggling like junior high kids that executives said “screw” in correspondence.

Watch the video and you call the shots. Is it too much for drunken, testosterone filled Super Bowl fans to endure?

Ellen DeGeneres Does Dees Vegan Donuts For Birthday

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, January 27th, 2009 in Food & Drink, TV Hosts.

35th Annual People's Choice Awards - Show

Ellen DeGeneres is a year older and she recently celebrated by bringing in vegan sweets to her audience from Dees Vegan Bakery and Donuts.

What a sweet vegan deal!

She also gave away gift certificates to Zappos.com worth $200!

But could she have done better?

No disrespect to Zappos, but after visiting the site, looks like they have a nice collection of leather. Wouldn’t it have been more appropriate for vegan Ellen to give the gift of cruelty-free to her audience to wear as well as eat?

Yes, audience members can choose non leather items, but it would make it a lot easier if she gave them Matt & Nat certificates like she did during the holidays.

Hope everyone  got their bellies full of vegan sweets.
