Heather Mills accepts an award and shows her new line at Catwalk fashion show. Heather Mills‘ much talked about fashion line, Be@1, launched last week. The event took place at the Celebrity Catwalk charity in Hollywood Highlands. Be@1 takes used clothing and recycles it, helping to make Mother Earth a little more fashionable, ridding her of all the junk placed in her landfill trunk. Heather Mills clothes line shown at Celebrity Catwalk in Hollywood.

Heather states on her website:

“Society throws away over a million tones of clothing and textiles into the rubbish bins annually. Many of these items could be resold or remade into something new and exciting. This is why eco aware and fashion loving Heather had the idea to develop this new inspirational clothing line. The collection consists of women’s and menswear, designed for the assertive, fashionable and eco-conscious person. All the fabrics used in the pieces have been carefully sourced and remodeled into something unique and highly wearable. From a haute couture recycle lace white evening gown to a pair of high waisted trousers for the office, B@1 is about to show there is nothing trashy about recycling unwanted clothing!”

Be@1 will produce two collections per year for men, women, and children.

Wilbur The Pig From Charlotte’s Web Lives Large At Batey Farms

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, August 31st, 2009 in Animal Issues, Film & TV.

LA Premiere Of Paramounts Charlottes Web - Arrivals

Whatever happened to Wilbur the pig from Charlotte’s Web?

After he finished his red carpet activities and stole the spotlight from Dakota Fanning, Wilbur went to live happily ever after on the farm in Tennessee he was picked from with farmer John Batey.

But that almost didn’t happen.

After being chosen to appear on the front cover of an updated version of the book by E.B. White, “Charlotte’s Web,” Wilbur was headed for the slaughterhouse, much to the public’s outcry.

“Calls from Canada, Boston and New York came to the Batey home. “A Saskatchewan radio station thought our famous pigs would be of interest to their listeners,” said Melissa Batey, John’s wife. A vegetarian woman from Boston called to see what was going to happen to Wilbur. Even the publishing company called to offer a pig sanctuary for Wilbur. Calls also came in from Kingsport and Chattanooga.”

Happy ending?

Well, sorta.

Wilbur still lives on Batey farm. But it is still a farm, where other pigs are raised and sent to slaughter. Wilbur just gets “spared.”

But Batey maintains it’s a better life than at a sanctuary.

“I’ve seen those, and what a pitiful life,” said Batey. “I felt he would be much better off with his own kind and someone he knows. He is running with the sows, and they are about his size.”

Tony Gonzalez Discusses Vegan Principles Diet With USA Today

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, August 31st, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Flexitarian.

Atlanta Falcons v St. Louis Rams

Tony Gonzalez insists that his success on the football field is most closely tied with adopting “vegan principles,” according to usatoday.com.

Not a complete vegan-not even a complete vegetarian-Gonzalez still eats seafood and chicken occasionally, but has given red meat the permanent punt off his plate.

“You have to put good stuff in your body. Everybody should, but especially athletes. We’re high-performance machines. You wouldn’t put regular gas in a race car. Jimmie Johnson is going to put the high-octane, good stuff in there. It’s the same thing for football players. You’d be surprised by how many players don’t do it. But I’ve seen the results.”

Tony’s trying to get the wifey on board too, but she’s not the best willing participant.

Uh-oh.

Does she need a Skinny Bitch to keep her in line?

“She’s having trouble. When I cook, she’s eating good. But if she has to do it on her own, she might not make the best choices.”

Tony made the switch to a mainly vegetarian diet after sitting next to a man who ordered a vegan meal on a plane flight and bugging the heck out of him with questions, which led Tony to read The China Study, which outlines how diseases that drive health care costs up can be prevented with a plant based diet.

Bif Naked Song “Sick” Addresses Puppy Mills, Seal Hunting

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, August 31st, 2009 in Animal Issues, Female Singers.

Playstation 2 pre-MTV Video Music Awards Party

Bif Naked has a new album out, The Promise, that was created during her fight with cancer and energy zapping chemotherapy.

So most people would think that a song from the album titled “Sick,” would detail Bif’s tumultuous battle with the disease.

Not entirely.

Bif, a raw vegan, is also an animal activist and used to song as a vehicle to express her disgust with some animal industries.

“Sick” is just another word to describe many of the injustices the weaker have to endure.

“‘Sick’ also addresses how I feel about the seal hunt and the puppy mills on Vancouver Island,” said Bif, according to straight.com.

“Obviously, docetaxel and carboplatin made me sick, but the premise of the song, for sure, is there’s just so many travesties and injustices that we have to outrun all the time.”

Bif got so sick during her treatment, she had to temporarily eat something not vegan-yam rolls-because they were the only things she could keep down.

Blah! Sounds horrible.

Happy return to vegan foods, Bif!

PETA has unveiled its latest ad against animal testing.

Layla Kayleigh, the star of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, is asking you to think before buying lipstick or mascara that may have been worn on a rabbit or rat first.

“I don’t think people are purposely buying cosmetics and household products that are tested on animals. I just don’t think they think twice. … It really takes such a small thing to make such big impact, you know, and I feel like the more people get involved, the more it can make a difference.”

Natalie Portman No Longer Vegan Thanks To Carvel Ice Cream?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, August 28th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

The Apple Store in Soho presents Meet The Director: Natalie Portman

Has one of our favorite vegan actresses fallen to the scoop?

During an interview with Jake Gyllenhaal for Interview magazine, Jake asked Natalie Portman what her favorite food was.

Natalie said she not only loved “Carvel Ice Cream,” but there was no way you could make it any better.

PORTMAN: Well, I don’t think you can really improve upon Carvel ice cream cake.

GYLLENHAAL: I’m more Baskin-Robbins style myself.

PORTMAN: Oh really? I am so Carvel. Did I just bring us back to 1985 Long Island?

From the dialogue provided, it looks like Natalie was thinking back in the days…when she still ate dairy.

1985? Wasn’t she still sporting her training wheels while eating that Carvel ice cream?

What do you think? Is Nat milking the cow while she listens to obscene hip hop music?

We’d hate to think so, given the fact there are so many vegan ice cream brands out there.

Halloween 2 Gave Sheri Moon Zombie Food Horror Stories

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, August 28th, 2009 in Actresses, Film & TV, Food & Drink.

Halloween 2 Premiere in Hollywood

Sheri Moon Zombie, wife of director and musician Rob Zombie, learned the hard way it’s not always easy to get veg food in every part of the country.

While filming for Halloween 2 in Georgia, Sherri said she had the choice of either fast food or Walmart.

“I did not like Georgia at all. We stayed in this town called Covington and, whenever I had a day off, it was Walmart or fast food. I’m a vegetarian, so I don’t eat fast food. And, I said, “If I go into Walmart again, I’m going to shoot myself.”

Sounds like a true horror story.

Rob’s a veggie too and he’s even included two main characters that are vegetarian in Halloween 2, which hit the theatres today.
