FOX 2007 Programming Presentation

“I think I can convince anyone to become a vegetarian. David Boreanaz [Booth, her crime solving partner on Bones] used to make fun of me for being a vegan, but then I started giving him vegan food to eat, and he loves it. Now he tries to eat vegetarian 1 day a week.”

Daniel Negreanu Gave Tobey Maguire Poker Lessons

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, November 13th, 2008 in Actors, Athletes-Games-Sports.

WSOP No-Limit Texas Hold 'em World Championship

Poker champ Daniel Negreanu has given poker lessons to several celebrities, including fellow vegetarian Tobey Maguire.

Although Tobey still does occasional dairy, Negreanu went completely vegan in 2003. Wonder if they shared secrets for five bean soup as well as five card draw?

Either Negreanu is a good teacher, Maguire is a good student or both.

Tobey has become quite accomplished, competing and winning in tournaments like World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker. He won first place in the Phil Hellmuth Invitational – No Limit Hold’em 2004 National Championship of Poker in Los Angeles. The prize money was a nice $95,480.

Of course that’s pocket change to an actor that pulls millions from a single movie, but hey, bragging rights are priceless.

Food Minister Russell Brand Can Slim Britain’s Fat Transylvanians

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, November 13th, 2008 in Actors, Radio Hosts.

Russell Brand seen outside a hotel in New York City

What can Russell Brand do for Britain? Reduce obesity rates? Encourage more physical activity? Have naked ladies wearing only lettuce cups go door to door reminding you to eat your veggies?

These are just a few of some possible campaign pointers he should mention in case he decides to run for Food Minister.

Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver has expressed concerns over Britain’s rising health problems and says the country is in need of a Food Minister to help stop and reduce what he calls the “obesity horror show.”

But this horror show doesn’t involve Rocky coming to life. And ooh, girlfriend, those Transylvanians have gotten fa-aat!

Peta UK has jumped on the chance to remind everyone that a vegetarian diet can help you lose weight and is better for the planet and has created its own ballad for vegetarian celebrities that would be perfect for the Food Minister position, including shock jock Brand.

Other celebs on the list include Paul McCartney, Joanna Lumley, Morrissey, Russell Brand, Benjamin Zephaniah, Leona Lewis, Jenny Seagrove, Alexa Chung, Jodie Marsh, Martin Shaw, and Thom Yorke.

Whether you live in the UK or not, you can participate in the decision by going to Fish and Chips and leaving a comment as to who you think should take the helm.

The “obesity horror show” can change. Let’s do the time warp again…but with a vegan Frank. N. Furter.

The Championships - Wimbledon 2008 Day Thirteen

Martina Navratilova was slamming tennis balls at speeds most of us would only drive if we were taking NASCAR lessons before the days of Venus, Serena, and Maria Sharapova snapping pics of her dog Dolce.

She has supported animal rights and used to be completely vegetarian, then started eating fish because she found it hard to get protein while traveling so much.

Which leads to an interesting question: Is it really that hard to get good veg food away from home, if you don’t bring along a private chef? And are celebrities who claim to switch to a less than completely veg life because of health reasons really trying hard enough?

Sure, it’s hard to find vegetarian/vegan food on the road to purchase sometimes. Not to mention traveling in other countries.  But how many of you guys have packed a protein bar regularly or a Ziploc bag of nuts? It seems that if you’re worth millions, it should be the easiest thing in the world to eat vegetarian and vegan as you have the resources to get any type of meal you want-from healthy prepackaged varieties to a freshly catered full course meal via a personal chef.

Obviously an individual’s diet decision is ultimately a personal one, but is claiming it’s “too hard,” due to traveling or time constraints taking the “easy way” out?

Sara Gilbert’s Digging Tofu With Tobey Maguire Too

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 in Actors, Actresses, Food & Drink.

Sara Gilbert and partner lunch with Tobey Maguire

Remember Sara Gilbert, who played the cynical teen Darlene in Roseanne? She’s all grown up now, with a partner, Allison Adler, and two kids. She also, like Ethan Suplee, has discovered the joy of tofu through Tobey Maguire.

This man really gets around.

And never forgetting to bring along his reusable eco bag while doing so. Maybe it serves as a doggy bag for leftovers?

Gilbert, Adler, and Maguire were all spotted doing lunch at, you guessed it, Hollywood’s headquarters for vegan food, Real Food Daily.

With so many celebs being brought in by Tobey makes you wonder if he has some sort of deal going on with the restaurant. All you can eat tempeh buffet for every 20 celebs?

Did My Name Is Earl’s Ethan Suplee Eat Properly Prepared Tofu?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 in Actors, Food & Drink.

Spring/Summer '08 J'aime Collection - Arrivals

“My Name Is Earl” actor Ethan Suplee enjoyed some time in the park with his two daughters, Billie Grace and Ethan (yes the girl’s name is just like his). Joining them was Tobey Maguire, and Tobey’s wife Jennifer Meyer and the Maguires’ child Ruby.

Looks like they had a lot of fun and definitely worked up an appetite because afterwards the group enjoyed some vegan food at Real Food Daily, one of L.A.’s stops for veg cuisine.

Haven’t heard any vegan news about Ethan. Maybe he was going along for the ride? Or has he discovered that tofu is great when you make it properly?

One of the pictures taken of them shows Tobey carrying an eco-friendly bag designed by Lauren Bush. Go check them out!

Tim McIlrath And Rise Against Scoot For Vegan Cheese Steak

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 in Bands, Food & Drink.

The boys of Rise Against don’t take themselves too seriously. They just like to scoot around.

To entertain themselves while on their current tour to promote the album Appeal To Reason, they’ve brought along scooters so they cruise around the cities they play. Singer Tim McIlrath told Rolling Stone:

“Now, instead of being cooped up in a venue all day, we can just cruise around town. It keeps us sane.”

The all vegetarian group keeps from getting hungry by requesting platters of raw vegetables, Gatorade, and Diet Dr. Pepper backstage.

One night they used their big boy toys to hunt for some vegan cheese steaks before a show.

Wheels, food, and a venue filled with women who love rock and roll. What else could a man asked for?

Gourmet Veggie Dinner, Emmylou Harris Keys To A Fun Night

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

The 2nd Annual Women Rock! Girls & Guitars

Emmylou Harris will be performing tomorrow night to benefit the Best Friends Animal Society, an organization that serves to help four legged folks in all sorts of ways, including placing animals that were once considered “unadoptable,” into loving homes.

The 15th Annual Lint Roller Party will combine good music with good food. While enjoying her concert, guests will also be enjoying a gourmet vegetarian dinner.

Emmylou has several dogs and is a true animal lover, running a shelter where she lives in Tennessee. As a vegetarian, she won’t eat them either.

Awhile back, we told you how she wasn’t too fond of someone describing her like bacon-and saying she (as well as bacon) made everything better. Instead, she’d rather you tell her she’s like cheese.

Other bonuses at the event include an open bar, live and silent auction, and the opportunity to meet the cast of DogTown, a new television series on the National Geographic Channel.
