Extreme Championship Wrestling Diva Tiffany Goes Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Business.

Diva Tiffany is known to the World Wrestling Entertainment World as the business assistant to Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) General Manager Theodore Long. The ECW is a brand of the World Wrestling Entertainment, along with Raw and SmackDown.

Speaking of raw, Diva Tiffany might be adding more of it to her plate these days. She has announced she has become a complete vegan, after several years of transitioning from meat, then vegetarian, and now absolutely no meat or dairy products. She writes on her blog:

“For the last 3 and a half years, I have been working on a long journey to becoming a Vegan. My first and main reason behind this lifestyle change is the moral and ethical rights of animals. I am speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves. I am a strong proponent for the humane treatment of animals and am making my stand known by not ingesting any animal products whatsoever. That’s right! No meat, no dairy, no eggs…the list goes on. In short, no animal products or animal by-products.”

Diva Tiffany made the decision to cut animal products from her diet after viewing a video on the treatment of animals on farms which made her cry, “for hours after watching.”

Yeah for the Diva. Maybe she can use her business powers to convince some of those WWE wrestlers to follow the footsteps of other hardcore athletes like Ultimate Fighter Mac Danzig and become vegan as well.

Sandra Bernhard Wears Stella McCartney Vegan Shoes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 in Comedians, Videos.

'Mistletoe, Mischief & Myrrh!' The Trevor Project Cracked Xmas

Sandra Bernhard knows how to get her vegan footy on!

During a chat with Graham Norton and Alan Cumming, Sandra immediately mentions that she’s wearing a pair of Stella McCartney’s vegan shoes.

The vegetarian actress and comedian has been making people laugh since the 1970s.

An interesting point is brought up during the conversation that Stella’s vegan shoe shop is located in a meat-packing district. Ha! What a way to make a statement.

They’re red, they’re flashy, but best of all, they’re cruelty-free. There’s a close-up of Sandra’s feet if you watch the video.

For some adult humor, be sure to check out Sandra’s shirt to see how she views a particular president.

“The way that burger ends up on your plate is pretty ugly. That burger may look fine on your plate, but if you go back and look where it came from, it’s disgusting, I think, really.”

James Bond’s Daniel Craig Sent Fake Bacon

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 17th, 2008 in Actors, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

Tribeca Film Institute Benefit Screening of Quantum of Solace in New York

The name is Bacon. Fakin’ Bacon.

Daniel Craig, the actor who plays James Bond in the most recent Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, has a fetish for Miss Piggy. He’s so enamored with this porky lady, he had bacon sent from the UK to the site of the making of his new film in Italy.

He was adamant about he and his crew having traditional English breakfast and wanted to make sure everyone got their “bacon sarnies,” which consists of bread, a slice of pork, and ketchup.

When PETA UK found out about this, they felt his obession was a little overboard and sent him some fake bacon, along with reasons for why eating fake meat is a better alternative to eating pork, including the fact that real bacon can contribute to clogging of the arteries and impotence.

Amazing Race Terence And Sarah Get Silenced By Sheep

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 17th, 2008 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Reality TV.

Reality TV time has ended for the Amazing Race couple with the veggie half, Terence and Sarah. And it ended on a very sour note.

Terence, as you can recall us telling you, has been a vegetarian for 15 years. However, during last night’s aired episode, he and Sarah decided to participate in the “Fast Forward,” challenge without knowing what the “challenge” consisted of. He soon found out that challenge was to eat sheep.

“We sat down in that restaurant and everything they served me made me absolutely ill,” Terence said.

Most would suspect that if you haven’t eaten meat in years and start doing so, you might experience some problems here and there. This was true for Terence as he attempted to eat the sheep, gagging several times, and eventually giving up.

“I can run marathons, I can do triathlons, but I could not swallow that food to save my life,” Terence said to host Phil Keoghan. Interestingly enough, since Terence couldn’t complete the Fast Forward, he had to perform another non-vegetarian task-dressing up as a cow. But they were not able to overcome to delay caused by the Fast Forward competition and ultimately had to say good-bye.

Many vegetarians would not have attempted to eat the sheep, thus compromising their beliefs, even if a million dollars were at stake. Still, in the heat of the moment and coming so far in the race, some, like Terence, may have given it a try (and most likely regretted, due to both physical pain and moral guilt).

But should CBS have done more to accommodate those with restrictive eating habits? And should they have told the couples in advance that eating meat could be a requirement along the race? If someone were allergic to meat, there would probably be no hesitation about offering a meatless substitute for the challenge.

Chime in and give us your thoughts.  Was this fair game or just inconsiderate?

Paul McCartney Gone Wild: Eating Sugar, Playing China

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 17th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Celebs at Stella McCartney Fashion Show - Paris

Paul McCartney is playing the role of bad boy these days. He relaxed a lot of his strict habits, which include avoiding sugar. Gasp!

According to The Telegraph  when asked what he’s putting in his tea these days, he replied, “Milk and sugar. Sugar these days, yes. I know not many people dare to take sugar these days, but I’m just reckless.”

Reckless, indeed. Perhaps even more astonishing is his decision to play in China, a country he vowed not to step foot in after watching a documentary on their use of cats and dogs for fur.

“I wouldn’t even dream of going over there to play, in the same way I wouldn’t go to a country that supported apartheid. This is just disgusting… I couldn’t go there. If they want to consider themselves a civilised nation, they’re going to have to stop this.”

Now, he has been reported to tell a radio station, “I’ve never played in China, I’m kind of interested to see what that’s like. There’s lots of places I’ve never played, but I think China would be the answer.”

Is this Paul wanting one last wild ride as he reaches, ahem, maturity? Or perhaps it has to do with the company he’s keeping.

It was watching the dog and cat fur documentary with this then wife, Heather Mills, that prompted him to swear off China. And she reportedly also liked to enforce strict rules about eating.

Rebellion hits everyone sooner or later.

Paula Deen’s Unveggie 25,000 Lbs. Meat Gift To Food Bank

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 17th, 2008 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

34th Annual Daytime Creative Arts & Entertainment Emmy Awards - Arrivals

Knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Just when we are feeling love for the celebrity chefs, such as Rachael Ray and Cat Cora, one had to come along and ruin the warm and fuzzy feelings. Thanks Paula Deen.

The queen of southern cuisine went to Washington, D.C. and with the help of Smithfield Foods, donated 25,000 Lbs. of ham to the Capitol Area Food Bank. 25,000 Lbs. of meat! Yuuuuuuuuuck!

Deen said that when people think of her, they think of food. “So it’s only appropriate that when I come visiting, I bring food,” she said. “That’s what southerners do.”

Not to sound like stalkers or anything, but we look at what regions our fans are coming from (through stat counter and IP addresses) and we know we have plenty of southern folk out there who read our site. It is time for y’all to speak!

Don’t southerners like veg food too? Yes, we know fried chicken is thought to be the national bird for some folks who cook southern, but she could have at least thrown some brown rice, whole grain cereal, and whole wheat pasta in there.

This is a stark contrast to our darling Heather Mills’ donation of over a million dollars of soy meat to a food bank in the Bronx. And it brings up a good point that we’ve touched on before: Can those in poverty access healthy veg food like everyone else? If you can’t get healthy, meatless items at the food bank, what’s a financially struggling person to do?

French Actress Marion Cotillard Admires Vegan Natalie Portman

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, November 16th, 2008 in Actresses.

80th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Natalie Portman has gained admiration by French actress Marion Cotillard for her commitment to being cruelty free and environmentally friendly when designing her shoes from the Té Casan line.

Cotillard, who is the first person to win an Oscar for a French-language performance, as Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose was asked in the September/October 2008 issue of French magazine Néoplanète if she planned to develop a similar eco-friendly brand.

“That’s not a priority. But I admire Natalie’s commitment a lot. If I had to do something remarkable for the planet, I’d buy fields where [there]are grown OMG (transgenic plants). Once bought, I’d redistribute them to farmers who would commit themselves to grow in danger local vegetables!”

Apparently, she’s not the only one who admires Natalie. A whopping 63% of you would rather have veggie burger lunch with Natalie vs. Carrie Underwood! And you can still show your love for Portman or Underwood. The poll is still open. Go practice some veggie democracy!
