Moby Spontaneously Shops For Sexy Food, Not Hookers

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 9th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers, Videos.

The Cinema Society & GQ Host Screening Of 'Children Of Men'

Awhile back, we told you where to find an awesome video of Moby giving the tour of his kitchen.

Here’s another video in the Epicurious.com series where Moby talks about how it can be hard to do the vegan thing while on the road. No kidding. Just ask Mark Ruffalo, who is currently winning the Who Would You Poll, by the way.

He does a lot of “spontaneous shopping” since he lives a block or two from several grocery stores and apologizes for mentioning it because “spontaneous shopping,” doesn’t sound nearly as sexy as what a rock star should talk about, like hookers and drugs. Sometimes the best code words are the vegetarian ones.

Jennifer Aniston’s Vegan Party For Ellen & Portia, Tobey Maguire

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 9th, 2008 in Actresses.

Party To Celebrate Laura Day At One Sunset

Jennifer Aniston threw a holiday party for a few friends this weekend at her new Beverly Hills mansion. Oh, and did we mention these were her veg friends?

Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi, along with Tobey Maguire and his wife Jennifer Meyer, joined Jen for the housewarming party on Sunday where catered vegan food was served to please Ellen and Tobey.

Other guests brought treats, such as cakes and cupcakes, but Jen made sure her vegan buddies weren’t left hangin’.

Aniston’s latest film, Marley & Me, is set to hit the theatres on December 25th, and also stars actors Owen Wilson and Eric Dane.

Boxing Promoter Frank Warren’s Bad Meat Market Experience

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, December 8th, 2008 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Food & Drink.

Scott Harrison v Nicky Cook Press Conference

What does a British boxing promoter who grew up in the Islington part of London in the UK and a drummer in an indie rock/pop punk band from Chicago, Illinois in the United States have in common? Both had a bad experience working around raw meat that turned them vegetarian.

Frank Warren has promoted some heavyweights and heavy names in the boxing sport, including Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton, although his ties with the two were eventually severed. He’s recently signed on some fresh British faces including Beijing gold medallist James DeGale, world champion Frankie Gavin, and Billy Joe Saunders.

At only 15 years of age, he quit school and went to work in a meat market at Smithfield, which incidentally, is not only a meat market area in London, but is also historically known for the executions of heretics and political opponents centuries ago. Looks like animals and humans got bad deals here!

He’s been a vegetarian ever since.

His story is similar to Andy Mrotek, drummer for The Academy Is, who’s experience working as a butcher at Pick N’ Save turned him vegetarian.

Guess these guys got to peer into those glass walls Paul McCartney wants everybody to look through.

Avril Lavigne No Kitty Cat, Not Into Wheatgrass Shots

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, December 8th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Avril Lavigne with her husband at Madeos

So there was a rumor going around that Avril Lavigne craves wheatgrass shots.

While this isn’t true, she does try to get her vegetables in through steaming broccoli and eating other vegetables with vegan sour cream and vegan butter before shows to keep her energy level up.

After a show though, it’s all downhill. According to People, she said, “I’ll eat junk and have a glass of wine. I like French fries and ice cream cones – and [I like] the truck-stop burritos.”

She’s also a sucker for dill pickle-flavored chips her home country of Canada. Good thing too, as it’s probably easier to take these with her on the road as opposed to the pizzas named after her in her hometown.

Nice to know Avril knows how to be both naughty and nice.

While we love Avril eating healthy, and wheatgrass shots are supposedly good and all, somehow it makes you think of the plant you bring home from Whole Foods to give to the cat.

Kid Rock Ready To Roll With PETA Over His Fur Collection

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, December 8th, 2008 in Fur, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Not So Vegetarian.

Kid Rock in Liverpool

Kid Rock likes his fur. And he’s sick of PETA telling him he should do otherwise. Apparently, their anti-fur campaigns are fightin’ words.

“I want to go to war with PETA. My biggest extravagance is fur coats – I’ve got every kind of animal in my wardrobe,” he told Britain’s Mail.

We think he not only has every animal in his wardrobe, but his own laboratory as well, where he makes hybrid animals when he runs out of ideas. He loves fur and hunting so much, it’s rumored that’s why he and vegan, PETA supporting Pamela Anderson got divorced.

Now, the musician whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, is begging for some action from the animal rights group, hoping he’ll get a little flour thrown in his face soon. Or at least some red paint.

“I’m just willing the animal rights protesters to chuck some red paint on me. I understand people’s problems with it but to throw paint on someone is just wrong.”

Plus, those poor, helpless, actresses are so defenseless and cannot fight off the big bad PETA wolf.

“They do it to little Hollywood actresses who can’t defend themselves,” he said.

When a celebrity is this brazen against animal rights, PETA usually responds by sending them “a nice letter,” and information on why they should change their ways.

Since they have his ex-wife Pamela working for them, things could get nasty. It’s quite possible her theory of why men hunt was conceived during her relationship with him.

Radiohead Perfom At Victoria Park In London

Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who’s the greenest of them all?

Vegetarianism and environmentalism go hand in hand. You really can’t discuss being eco-friendly without at least talking about reducing meat consumption.

So it’s no surprise that several known vegetarians as well as some rumored vegetarians have popped up on the Coventry Telegraph list of greenest celebrities.

There’s vegan Thom Yorke of Radiohead, who refused to play in Glastonbury earlier this year, because the city had poor public transportation and he and the band felt that was damaging to the environment.

Vegan Alicia Silverstone has long supported PETA, but also has her own organic vegetable garden in the yard of her solar powered home she shares with her husband.

Natalie Portman attempted to make things greener for shoe fashionistas by starting her own vegan shoe line and donating a portion of the profits to charity. Although Te Casan closed shop, she still leads by example, never failing to let the media know she’s vegan, and filmed a video for National Geographic about how replacing regular light bulbs with energy saving light bulbs would have the environmental impact of taking millions of cars off the road.

Read about what the other celebs that made the list, including Brad Pitt, Leonardo Di Caprio, and Jack Johnson are doing at the Coventry Telegraph.

Why Throwing Rubber Meat At Vegan Moby Won’t Suck

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, December 7th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Rosario Dawson hosts The 2008 Willow Awards to benefit the Lower Eastside Girls Club

The horror/comedy film Suck, which vegan musician Moby has a role in, has just completed a few days of filming in Toronto.

As we told you earlier, the story is about a loser band that meets a vampire that while changes their fame and make others lust after them, results in their insatiable lust cravings for blood as well.

Since there is so much blood and guts in the film, you might wonder what kinds of props they’re using. Rest assured, Moby’s not down with being covered in real meat.

Suck’s production crew had fake beef created from latex rubber and foam, then dripped in fake blood.

The latex beef will be thrown at Moby’s character, Beef Ballow, lead singer of a band called Secretaries of Steak. Secretaries of Steak is a rival band to the loser band, The Winners, who’s luck improves after meeting the vampire.

Other stars in the film include Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, and Henry Rollins.

Vegetarian Carrie Underwood Respects Cattle Rancher Parents

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, December 7th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

The 42nd Annual CMA Awards - Press Room

American Idol winner and country music star Carrie Underwood has been a vegetarian since her teens and recently helped fellow Idol alum Kellie Pickler make the transition to the diet.

Carrie made the decision to stop eating meat while living with her parents, who ironically, are cattle ranchers. And although she wouldn’t dare eat anything they produce, it didn’t change her feelings for them.

“I respect what they do very much. That’s what put clothes on my back and paid for college,” she said in an interview with Tampa Bay Online. “But cows were like my dogs. I named them, I played with them, I bottle-fed them. When I realized why we had cows, I couldn’t think of anyone eating my friends. It scared me, and I quit eating meat.”

When she goes home to Oklahoma these days, it’s not exactly the vegan mecca, like L.A., so she’s forced to bring her own food.

“I can get a veggie sub at Subway, but that’s about it.”

People who grow up and take on different beliefs or lifestyles from their family deal with it in different ways. Some become extremely outspoken to the point where it damages relationships and some are able to separate the people from the act they do.

Are you a vegetarian in a family of people in the meat industry, such as cattle ranching or even a butcher shop? Has it affected your relationships with them in any way since you became vegetarian?
