Quantcast Vegetarian StarWhale Wars (3)

Christian Bale and his wife arrive at Los Angeles Airport.

Christian Bale said that although he had been a vegetarian since 7, he went on a meat eating rampage after viewing Life Is Beautiful.  But at least he’s sporting a nice animal rights shirt at the LAX airport.

Sea Shepherd was founded by Paul Watson, the same dude who runs the helm on the Animal Planet whale saving series Whale Wars.

According to green gossip site, Ecorazzi.com, Bale has been spotted in this shirt before.

Either he’s a Sea Shepherd lover or has a favorite shirt similar to Linus’ blanket that he just can’t do without.

We’re hoping for the first of the two options and that Christian cares about saving whales as much as Captain Watson and his Whale Wars crew does.

Now if we can just keep him on the veg path…

Whale Wars Sneak Preview

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, May 31st, 2009 in Animal Issues, Misc Artists and Performers, Reality TV, Videos.

Paul Watson and his crew are at it again for another season!

The eco-pirate Animal Planet show Whale Wars is a portrayal of Watson and his shipmates attempting to stop Japanese Whalers from killing whales.

Whaling is normally illegal, the but whalers claim they are capturing the creatures for research purposes.

Watson’s got a nice record. The whalers have consistently failed to make their “quota” of captured whales since Watson’s Steve Irwin boat has sailed the seas.

This season, actress Daryl Hannah came along for the ride. Will there be another guest celebrity this year? You’ll have to tune in and find out!

“People say I manipulate the media. Well, duh. We live in a media culture so why on earth wouldn’t I? What we do is provide the media with the kind of stories they can’t resist, even if they really try, and this is how we bring attention to what’s happening to the whales, the seals, the sharks and the other marine conservation campaigns we’re involved in. The oceans are dying in our lifetime and it’s not for want of laws and regulations. The problem is enforcement. Governments are not enforcing the laws, so we have to.”

2008 Summer TCA Tour - Day 3

If you followed the Whale Wars series on Animal Planet, you know Captain Paul Watson and his crew on the Steve Irwin ship, which included actress Daryl Hannah, used prank-like tactics to throw off the whalers to try to keep them from killing whales in what they claim is for research purposes, including throwing rancid stink butter bombs at the ship.

Now, the whalers have fought back. After the Steve Irwin collided with the Japanese whaler ship, the hunters decided to get even by throwing chunks of bloodied whale and whale fat at the Captain and his crew.

Interestingly enough, if the whales are captured for research purposes, why are the whalers throwing away good study material? If they’re allowed to capture them, surely they’d find a good use for the materials besides blubber bombs.

Captain Watson claims the collision was accidental. Japanese whalers say otherwise. Take a look and tell us what you think.

4th Annual MusiCares Benefit Concert - Arrivals

Remember Anthony Kiedis’ personal vegan chef, Laura Dakin, he hired last year? She’s now working on the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s “Whale Wars” boat, Steve Irwin.

Laura is the gal who makes sure the crew gets three vegan meals a day while fighting Japanese hunters in the Southern Ocean.

She’s the Chief Cook on board and has held this position since 2005. Guess Anthony’s had to share her vegan food lovin’!

She’s got the seas in her blood-her father was an Australian Naval Officer.

You gotta wonder how poor Anthony gets by in the kitchen when Laura’s performing her duties at sea.

Whale Wars Captain Paul Watson Says We Eat Like Vultures

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, December 27th, 2008 in Misc Artists and Performers, Reality TV.

2008 Summer TCA Tour - Day 3

Captain Paul Watson is the founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and the main man at the helm of the Steve Irwin boat on the Animal Planet series Whale Wars, a reality show where the crew (which includes actress Daryl Hannah this season) sails the Southern Ocean, attempting to stop Japanese ships from hunting whales.

In an interview with Jason Miller on The Peoples Voice, Watson challenges the common notion that humans are true carnivores because we don’t eat our prey raw.

JM: As a vegan, you have characterized those who continue the practice of eating animal flesh as necrovores (rather than the “carnivores” many proudly claim to be). Please elaborate upon this and tell us what you think it will take to raise humanity’s moral consciousness to the point that a majority of people end their cruel and unnecessary consumption of meat.

Captain Paul Watson: Humans do not eat like carnivores. Carnivores bring down living prey and eat it raw and most predators target the soft organs leaving much of the muscle for scavengers. Humans eat dead flesh and rarely eat the organs, preferring the muscle tissue. Most of the beef that people eat has been dead for months and in many cases for years. The meat is disguised with bleach and dyes in many cases to hide the decay and the fact that the flesh is putrid. We are closer in our eating habits to vultures and jackals than wolves and lions.

Read the rest of the interview with Captain Watson and learn about a statue the Dalai Lama gave him and how he thinks our current political and economic systems go against the basic laws of ecology.
