Phil Mickelson casually said he was working on a veggie burger with Five Guys Burger and Fries restaurant, a franchise he bought the rights to before becoming vegetarian.

A Q & A session with readers at Golf.com reveals he is indeed serious about this, but who knows when Lefty will make it happen. Until then, don’t forget there are several fast food chains that already offer vegetarian patties. No, they aren’t perfect. Many aren’t vegan. Some of them are cooked on the same surface as meat. But if you happen to wander into an establishment during its quieter hours and ask politely, they may clean the grill or toast it in a separate pan or throw it in the microwave.

If you can endure Johnny Rockets singing waiters, there’s a Streamliner patty waiting for you–a Boca Burger with grilled onions, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and mustard.

Kate Nash Vegetarian With A Thing For Cheeseburgers

The MOJO Honours List 2009 - Arrivals

Kate Nash has a brand new diet to complement this month’s release of her latest album, My Best Friend Is You.

Vegetarian, dairy and gluten-free isn’t always the easiest to follow, and although Kate feels super great, she misses her favorite friend the cheeseburger.

Plus, she’s annoying. From Shockhound:

“My diet has actually changed. I’m a really annoying person now, one of those people I never thought I’d be. Because I’m allergic to wheat and dairy, and I’m a vegetarian. But my favorite food is still cheeseburgers, which is really bad. But I do feel healthier, and I don’t get any weird wheat/dairy infections, so that’s good, too.”

Somebody tell poor Kate to stock up the tour bus with a Whole Foods 365 Vegan Burger and non dairy cheese.

In a blind taste test conducted by staffers at Vegetarian Times (May/June 2006), the 365 patty was chosen as the best vegan burger and was said to have a “hearty flavor” and “go good on a grill.”

If Kate doesn’t like it, maybe her new pet rabbit Fluffy, who she’ll be taking on tour in Europe and the UK, will.

In the picture on the site, it looks like Hathaway’s friend is the only one caught carrying the burger bag.

More importantly though, when is In-N-Out going to get with it and offer veggie burger selections on the menus like other traditional fast food burger joints who have learned to do the same (aka. Burger King).

The Travel Channel recently featured veggie burgers in its Burger Paradise show.

According to the clip, the first official veggie burger was created in London in the 80s.

A southern California restaurant that only serves veggie burgers was featured.

“Vegetarians and vegans love their burgers just as much as meat-eaters. Packed with fresh vegetable, bean, rice and soy ingredients, each veggie patty is jam-packed with flavor. Established in 1977, The Spot has been a fixture in the Hermosa Beach community ever since. Who are the biggest customers? According to owner Tonya Beaudet, carnivores come in flocks to sample the veggie burger’s unique flavor.”

“The Spot” in Hermosa offers a twist to the traditional deep fried french fry side–a scoop of wholesome brown rice instead.

NBC Universal Pre-Superbowl Party

Joshua Gomez may not have all the classified government information his character’s co-worker Chuck (Zachary Levi) has on the NBC television series Chuck, but he does have some inside info on making a great tasting meat-free meal.

Gomez says in the March 2010 issue of Vegetarian Times he is a mostly “veggie-burger-in-the-microwave kind of guy”, but he’s also known to whip up a curry every now and then.

If only everyone could download the secret to setting the timer so the veggie burger comes out perfect.
