Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies

PETA has announced the top vegetarian friendly major and minor league baseball stadiums for 2010.

The veggie hot dog stands at Citizen’s Bank Park were so popular, the stadium added extra lines for them, in addition to a black bean burger. Is this why the Philadelphia Phillies’ home won first place in the major leagues?

“It’s hard to say whether the Phils’ biggest off-season acquisition was ace Roy Halladay or the new faux chicken sandwich and vegan rice crispie treats offered at concession stands. Added to other meat-free fare, including veggie burgers, Southwestern black-bean burgers, veggie dogs, faux steak sandwiches, veggie chicken steaks, mock crab cakes, hummus and pita chips, and fresh fruit, Citizens Bank Park is the first undisputed dynasty in the history of PETA’s prestigious rankings.”

Makes you wanna eat there even if you hate baseball.

Several vegetarian options at Wrigley’s include black bean burgers and vegetable wraps.

World Series Game 6 -- Phillies at Yankees

As previously reported, Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies has added more veggie hotdog stands so those that aren’t into eating dozens of animal parts rolled into one frank don’t have to walk as far for a snack.

To add to the excitement, the Phillies are holding a voting contest to name the Signature Hot Dog of Citizens Bank Park.

There are three creations to choose from and the winning version can dress a vegetarian hot dog in addition to an all beef one.

Sweet!

And these varieties aren’t your standard ketchup, mustard and relish.

The South Philly Dog comes with broccoli rabe, spicy roasted peppers and sharp provolone on a crusty Italian roll. Olde Philadelphia Dog is topped with Amish pepper hash, dill pickle and yellow mustard on a poppy seed roll. The CBP Summer Dog is a spicy variety with tomato and pickle relish and ancho pepper sauce on a pretzel roll.

ANY of these combinations have the potential to be made with a veggie dog!

Voting takes place here starting Monday, closes on April 4, with the winner announced on April 12.

Baseball and hotdogs go hand in hand in tradition.

The herbivores aren’t getting left out on this one.

Nothing like morning after regret.

After deciding to eat organic, Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard, who was baseball’s Rookie of the year in 2005 and MVP in 2006, lost 20 pounds!

When he slips up and eats terrible, he admits it’s not worth it afterwards.

“When you’re on that regular cycle of eating well…you go off and you get a burger and fries or whatever, you feel terrible…You feel, “Why did I just do that?”

Of course, if Howard’s got a craving for a burger every now and then, might we suggest any numerous veggie burgers available? Meat-free, cruelty-free, and no buyer’s remorse.

And it would be so easy to do, considering the Philadelphia Phillies have one of the most veggie friendly ballparks.

It’s the perfect next step in being healthy, Ryan. And you could join the ranks of dozens of other professional athletes who keep pork off the fork.

Howard visited the White House garden recently when he revealed he’d been ogling organic for some time.

National Kidney Foundation Celebrity Golf ClassicActress Alyssa Milano’s had her hands tied lately, juggling both a new ABC television pilot, Romantically Challenged, with her clothing line of baseball themed attire, Touch.

Alyssa is no stranger to the ballpark, becoming inspired to design Touch after experiencing frustration in not finding any cute outfits that displayed pride for her team in the baseball shops. She’s also no stranger to ballpark food, and says it’s definitely not the place for dieting.

“Part of the fun of a baseball game is actually pigging out on the concessionary food and throwing peanut shells on the floor,” Alyssa said, according to stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com. “I have four seats at Dodger stadium and after a game it looks like a tornado came through.”

Alyssa, being vegetarian, can stuff all the peanuts and popcorn down her throat at Dodger stadium, but if she visits any of the 10 Most Veggie Friendly Ballparks, she can pig out a lot more.

Philadelphia Phillies fans can munch on faux Philly steak sandwiches and crab-free cakes on their home turf at Citizens Bank Park. San Fransisco Giants in AT&T park can get even bigger scarfing down vegetarian pot stickers, Gardenburgers, and broccoli tofu platters. And the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field hit home runs with their veggie sushi.

Spam is never appealing, whether it’s creamed pork shoulder or 100 emails a day offering you “enhancement” drugs.

That’s why when PETA found out Philadelphia Phillies Outfielder Shane Victorino has a favorite dish consisting of Spam, rice blocks, and nori, they decided to “spam” him with one of their famous letters beseeching meat loving celebrities to change their ways.

Spam Musubi is a Hawaiian (Victorino’s home state) favorite, and is your equivalent of Spam sushi. Gross! An excerpt from the letter:

As you might know, PETA has named Citizens Bank Ballpark the Most Vegetarian Friendly Ballpark two years in a row for its astounding variety of protein-packed, delicious animal-friendly fare, including mock-chicken sandwiches, “crab-free crab cakes,” Philly faux-steak sandwiches, veggie dogs, and flame-grilled Gardenburgers! We urge you to abandon the Spam, take advantage of the park’s delicious veggie options, and consider joining other compassionate athletes–including John Salley, Ricky Williams, and Tony Gonzalez–in healthy and humane vegetarian eating.

PETA also discusses the results of their investigation of a factory farm that breeds pigs for Hormel, the company that produces Spam. Some details of the undercover stint include a worker shoving a stick in a sow’s vagina, beating pigs with metal rods, poking at their eyes with clothespins, and beating one female pig saying, “You gotta beat on the bitch. Make her cry.”

Okaaaaaay. While we don’t see the connection as to how making the b*#ch cry produces better Spam (or why we need to even produce Spam, for that matter), we do agree with what PETA assistant director Dan Shannon said in a press release:

“If Shane likes Spam a lot, he should buy tickets to the Broadway play but leave it off his dinner plate.”

Or, to put it in the words of a pig factory farm worker, “Leave that b*#ch alone!”
