Chrissie Hynde: Austin, Texas To Be First Vegetarian City

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

UK Film Premiere: Ano Una - Arrivals

Chrissie Hynde’s sarcasm may be just as entertaining as her musical performances.

The rock musician recently performed in Austin, Texas in the backyard of a barbecue eatery.

Yes, the VEGAN Chrissie Hynde performed in the backyard of a barbecue eatery.

Known for her outspokenness on her diet and lifestyle even on stage, she made a crack that, “I’m glad to see that Austin may become the first vegetarian city in Texas.”

She also asked people to stop killing cows “because change is possible.”

Hey, while performing at a place known as a flesh fest, you know she had to say something.

Even if veggie tamales were served.

As hard as it may be for her, she tries to keep her composure on stage. Once while performing with Neil Young, she remarked, “I’m trying very hard not to say anything about the fact that all I can smell is burning flesh.”

Hynde once said that she didn’t care if she headlined a tour or not as long as she didn’t have to share the catering with meat eaters.

But even megastars have to share a performing venue with them.

Orlando Jones: Pain In The Butt Raw Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 2nd, 2009 in Actors, Comedians.

4th Annual Hollywood Style Awards

Orlando Jones, actor from Madtv and 7Up commercials, isn’t just any vegan. He’s one of those pain in the butt raw vegans.

“I’m like vegan raw so I’m really a pain in the butt about what I eat,” he told Parade Magazine. “I’ve been pursuing it actively for 14 years.”

He’s making his next television appearance as a regular on CBS’ Rules of Engagement and he might be able to offer the cast some tips on a delicious vegan meal now and then, like this tomato pasta soup he recommended:

“Take some tomato soup and season it until it’s perfect for your taste buds. Then add your pasta and cook it Sicilian style in the soup so it doesn’t absorb any water. You don’t need any sauce. That’s what is really fantastic about it. People look for the sauce and you tell them it’s already in there.”

Although he obviously gets in the kitchen regularly, he’s not a big fan of television cooking shows, yet admits Emeril Lagasse makes him laugh because he’s always telling people to add more fat and grease to their food.

“I’m like, ‘Dude, you are just trying to make people explode.’”

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Red Carpet

Jason Mraz, the only vegan man who can make avocado and chocolate go good together, has a photography book out, A Thousand Things.

“I just wanted to let people see some of the things I’ve seen,” Mraz told PopEater. “The book contains images I’ve taken all over the world.”

The book not only captures the world, it’s kinder to it as well. From his website:

“This eco-friendly book was printed with soy-based inks on FSC- and ISO-certified woodfree paper. The cover stock is also FSC-certified, fully recyclable, and chlorine free. Environmentally harmless glues were used in the binding process, and all printing films, plates, and waste paper were recycled.”

“I just think it’s necessary to find an alternative solution so we can have less of an impact on our community,” he added.

The photographs were all shot with the nearly extinct Polaroid camera, which allowed Jason to retain his mellow personality, slowing down to capture life in its purest form.

“Digital Cameras are like automatic weapons. You’ll most likely hit your target. The Classic Polaroid Camera is the suction cup dart gun of this advancing age. Thus, my Polaroid hobby invites me to slow down and see more on my walk through life.”

You can view a sample of the photos in Jason’s book, then order a copy for yourself.

Anna Paquin, Ginnifer Goodwin On HBO’s Veggie Hotties List

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 2nd, 2009 in Actresses.

2009 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Graydon Carter - Arrivals

HBO must be the TV station for veggie hotties.

It’s home to vegan Ginnifer Goodwin’s “Big Love” as well as True Blood ,where vegetarian Anna Paquin stars as a waitress who’s got a biting taste for a vampire (unknown if he’s a vegetarian vampire) played by Stephen Moyer.

Apparently, Stephen can’t get enough blood onscreen because the two are dating in real life.

She and Ginnifer Goodwin are featured in a gallery, The Fit 5: Tips to Feel (and Look) Like a Star, with each celebrity exhibiting some characteristic that can help anyone stay fit.

It’s a no brainer that a veg diet can keep you looking good and healthy, so it’s no surprise two of our favorite veggie gals made the list.

Along with following a meatless diet, Anna is into boxing, plyometrics (exercises including bounding and jumping) and weight work. Perhaps that’s why she’s listed under the “Become a Warrior,” tip for getting in shape.

Ginnifer, who’s an example of “Lighten up your diet,” was quoted as saying, “I don’t eat animal products. So everything is working a little better.”

Frank Iero Demonstrates His Macbeth Cancer Fighting Shoes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, March 1st, 2009 in Fashion, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Videos.

Not long ago, we told you how Frank Iero of My Chemical Romance and LeATHERMOUTH designed some vegan shoes for MacBeth that included anatomically correct figures and instructions showing men and women how to check for and prevent testicular and breast cancer.

Here’s a video of Frank personally introducing the shoe in which portions of the sales go to the Syrentha Savio Endowment, a non-profit organization that works to fight breast cancer.

Frank shows where and how to cut the shoe to reveal his “artwork.”

There are two versions of the shoe, rated G and PG-13, depending on if you want to “fight” cancer, or use a more color expression, as you can see from the still frame of the video.

Franks jokes he hopes you like it, but if you don’t, don’t tell him.

We’ll clear the air of any suspicion: We like them!

Natalie Portman Mocks Ben Stiller, Meat Plant At Oscars

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 27th, 2009 in Actresses, Videos.

Besides donning her lovely vegan shoes and ethical jewelry at the Academy Awards recently, vegan Natalie Portman also took a stab at a meat processing plant.

She and Ben Stiller presented an award together, and Ben decided to imitate the recent makeover, or shall we say unmakeover, of vegan Joaquin Phoenix, sporting a long scruffy beard and matching unkempt hairdo, complete with weirdo behavior.

Portman said, “You look like you work in a Hasidic meth lab.”

Many are speculating Portman was referring to a 2008 federal raid on a Hasidic-owned and operated Agriprocessors meat processing plant in Postville, Iowa.

Authorities discovered several infractions, including equipment for producing methamphetamines.

This is the same plant at which PETA secretly recorded a video on its controversial slaughter practices.

Other allegations included rabbis insulting workers while throwing meat at them, undocumented and illegal workers, and various health and safety issues.

Richie Rich - Backstage - Fall 09 MBFW

Pamela Anderson will be the guest of honor at Animal Rights Foundation of Florida’s 20th Anniversary Gala on March 14 at the Broward County Convention Center in Miami, Florida.

Hopefully, she’ll be wearing more clothes than this that night.

The event will be hosted by vegetarian and animal lover Bob Barker and guests such as famous vegan Dr. Neal Barnard and Ingrid Newkirk will be able to chow down on delicious vegan grub.

The Animal Rights Foundation of Florida (ARFF) is celebrating 20 years looking out for Florida’s non human critters through education and appearances throughout the community.

Although everybody will come for the food (or in hopes Pamela Anderson will show up half naked), besides that, there will be silent and live auctions for items such as an autographed poster of Kim Basinger’s L.A. Confidential poster.

Tickets are $250 per person and all proceeds from the gala go to the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida.
