“Everyone should dramatically simplify their life and reduce their spending because there’s going to be less expendable income. I’m pretty careful. I drive the cheapest car Nissan makes and I rent a two bedroom apartment in Glendale. What I spend money on is organic, vegan food.”

Steve-O, to Fox 411 Poptarts.

If you’re the frugal type, you might be interested in knowing that spending your money on “organic, vegan food” like Steve may very well be the best way save a nickel or two. The folks at Good.is–who happen to be doing a 30-day vegetarian challenge–have compared vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and meat-eating diets in terms of what one might spend on breakfast, lunch and dinner. One day’s worth of meals for a vegan was $11.15, but a meat eater put out a whopping $14.65!  Don’t know about  you, but we can think of plenty of ways to use that extra $3 a day…like spending it on more delicious vegan food.

Steve-O has been living quite a docile life compared to the one he led years ago during his Jackass stunts by day and drugs and alcohol fueled stunts by night era.

Steve, who’s real name is Stephen Glover, has written a tale of the accounts before he was forced into rehab–a decision that probably saved his life.

If Steve-O wanted to start writing his own vegan cookbook, he’d already have two recipes that would knock his fans’ socks off.

His ideas for breakfast and lunch were shared with The Edmonton Journal, and they’re definitely suited for the simple cook in all of us.

“Generally in the morning I make a mixture of whole grain cereal with almond milk and a slice of banana on it. And about once a day I’ll eat a whole pack of Tofurky. I love that stuff, man. I’ll just eat it right out of the pack with mustard.”

“Jackass 3D” Trailer And How Animal Stunts Were Monitored (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, October 15th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Film & TV, Videos.

Jackass 3D

Jackass 3D

Steve-O, one of the stars of Jackass 3D, is a vegan, but that doesn’t stop him from participating in some wild, gross and bizarre stunts involving animals in his films, Jackass 3D included.

The American Humane Association monitored scenes involving animals to ensure no creatures (at least 4-legged) were hurt, which included everything from dangerous bull charging to a pig eating an apple from a man’s rear end. The AHA website lists how every scene was monitored for Jackass 3D. Here are a few interesting points.

  • Bees–Although hundreds were shown, only a handful were used and the rest were computer generated.
  • Snakes–Real snakes were filmed in bins that were “checked for hazards beforehand,” to give shots of the animals slithering around for various scenes, but when it came time for the crew member to fall into the pit, he landed on rubber serpents.

Unfortunately, all usually never ends well when animals are used in films, so it would interesting to learn where the animals ended up after filming was over. Are they off to be “stars” in another movie? Will they retire in sanctuaries or be destined for slaughter?

Stephen Glover–Steve-O–Campus Talk Magazine 2009

Stephen Glover "Steve-O" Court Appearance

Stephen Glover, aka Steve-O “Jackass” is featured in the latest edition of Campus Talk magazine.

It may as well been called the Stephen Glover Veggie Files, because Steve’s interview is all about his vegetarianism.

Now that’s what we call an education.

Here are a few excerpts:

On Eating Meat and the afterlife:
In 2008 I came across a YouTube video that basically scared me into believing I was going to go to Hell if I kept eating meat. After that I became a pescetarian and the only meat I ate was fish. I figured if Jesus was down with eating fish then I could too. I’ve since become completely vegan.

On Not So Animal Friendly television stunts:
I remember PETA having an issue with the first stunt I ever did for Jackass where I swallowed the Goldfish and then puked it back up. There were actually a few situations on Wildboys that compromised my morals but for the most part we made sure Wildboys was a very animal-friendly show.

TMI about that Cruelty Doesn’t Fly Video:
The commercial for the fur campaign was really a lot of fun. Not many people can say they’ve been stripped searched by Pamela Anderson. The crazy thing is when we were shooting I had a big poop stain on my underwear which was kind of embarrassing.

Oh, Steve. You could have spared that last bit of information.

Now that you’ve seen Steve-O‘s Anti-Dissection PSA, take a look at the video showing both footage from the shoot and Steve-O sharing his thoughts on dissection.

“We shouldn’t make kids dissect animals,” Steve says.

“They should have the choice to say, ‘On a moral level, I’m not into that.'”

As a student, did you (or do you still) have problems with being able to refuse dissecting in class?

Steve-O “Cut Class Not Frogs” Dissection PETA Ad

Steve-O, the MTV Jackass star who’s real name is Stephen Glover, is the kind of mentor everyone needed in high school.

He’s joined forces with PETA in an anti-dissecting campaign that advises kids to “Cut Class Not Frogs.”

And who said the jackasses in class never amounted to anything when they grew up.

According to peta.org, “Every year, nearly 6 million animals, including frogs, rats, pigs, and cats” are dissected in classrooms.

Many alternative animal models exist, including frogs and pigs, and science literature indicates that these alternative methods, such as computer software, have been proven either equivalent of superior to the use of live or dead animals to help them understand biology and anatomy.
