Sarah Palin gave a speech at the National Rifle Association (NRA) convention where she criticized animal rights activists, advocates of limiting hunting in Alaska and anyone she considered to be threatening the second amendment.

After all, they’re all shooting deer in Hollywood.

“I have bad news for those groups,” Palin said, according to the Charlotte Observer. “Bambi’s mother is dinner – even in L.A.”

“Where do those people think their venison comes from? The deer didn’t die of natural causes. It wasn’t road kill.”

Why aren’t Palin and fur wearing Kelis BFFs already?

Besides protection, Palin may feel guns are a key aspect of social gatherings.

She once had a baby shower at an Alaska gun range.

Makes you wonder how some really celebrate a “shotgun” wedding.

If you live near the Discovery Channel, you may have noticed a series of posters in bus stations put up by Defenders of Wildlife, timed to coincide with the network’s shareholders meeting May 5.

Defenders of Wildlife is hoping Discovery will cancel Sarah Palin‘s tentatively titled show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” citing the politician’s track record on animal and environmental issues is not appropriate for a station designed to celebrate nature.

The various ads read with catchy and critical words for Palin like, “Don’t Promote Someone Who Turned Alaska’s Cry Of The Wild Into A Cry For Help,” and urges viewers not to watch the show and Discovery to drop it from its program.

More than 500,000 people have sent communication to Discovery officials, saying they do not support Palin hosting a nature show about Alaska.

Sarah Palin is up to her old annoyances of raving about her hobby of eating, killing and using animals.

While in Eugene, Oregon to address a crowd of fellow Republicans, she told reporters she is into eating organic.

Not necessarily produce, though.

“I eat granola. I eat a lot of organic food,” she said. “I have to catch and kill it before I eat it. It’s all organic.”

Oh, boy.

Is this what we’ll expect to see during her new Discovery Channel show tentatively titled Sarah Palin’s Alaska?

Probably not.

According to ex potential son-in-law Levi Johnston, Sarah’s hunting skills are bravado cause she doesn’t even know how to use a gun.

Johnston told Vanity Fair:

“She says she goes hunting and lives off animal meat — I’ve never seen it. I’ve never seen her touch a fishing pole. She had a gun in her bedroom and one day she asked me to show her how to shoot it. I asked her what kind of gun it was, and she said she didn’t know, because it was in a box under her bed.”

Let’s hope it stays under her bed for everyone’s, two and four legged, sake.

Sarah Palin‘s new Discovery show about Alaska, tentatively titled, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”, hasn’t made it to the screen yet, but there’s already a call for cancellation.

Activist group Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, the same group that launched its EyeonPalin campaign as a way to keep track of her record on animal and environmental issues, has created a petition, urging Discovery to drop the show.

The petition reads as follows:

“As parent company of Animal Planet, The Discovery Channel and TLC, and known for your wildlife-focused productions, I hope that you will reconsider your decision to partner with such a terribly anti-wildlife and politically divisive persona as Sarah Palin.”

So far, the petition has received 170,000 signatures.

According to the LA Times, the Sportsmen’s Alliance (who’ve been busy sending email to groups like Bluewater Comics for producing a book about Ellen DeGeneres that supports the Humane Society), is protesting, asking Palin fans to sign a counter petition.

There may not be a need to tally the John Hancocks on both sides, as viewers may control the show’s outcome with their remote controls.

In a poll that is available on the LA Times website that asks, “Will you watch Sarah Palin’s docu-series about Alaska?” only 16% of respondents mimicked Palin’s famous positive answer of “You betcha!”

Ellen DeGeneres Comic Book. Bluewater Productions

Ellen DeGeneres has joined company with other famous female celebrities such as Sarah Palin, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey in the Bluewater Productions Comic Book Series Female Force.

DeGeneres’ comic book will be available tomorrow for $3.99 and will detail her life from growing up in Louisiana, her desire to become a veterinarian as a child and her rise to stardom on the comedy and television front.

A portion of the proceeds from the comic book will go to the Humane Society of the United States.

“Ellen has been a leading force for animal protections issues,” said Michael Markarian, chief operating officer of the HSUS, in a statement thanking DeGeneres for her contributions.

According to PeoplePets, one of the sketches in the book includes a dog in she and Portia de Rossi‘s wedding photo!

As mentioned before, The Record reported that a man named Andrew Hunt will be writing weekly letters to Sarah Palin, sharing the benefits of a vegan lifestyle and recipes.

A writer at Slashfood heard this news and unfortunately, doesn’t agree with Hunt’s vegetarian agenda and suggests Sarah use her entrepreneurial spirit to profit from a lifestyle of loving meat.

Specifically, moose meat.

In his “letter” to Palin, he writes:

“I am writing to you, because I think a chain of patriotic restaurants inspired by your persona is exactly what this country needs, featuring an underrated ingredient that you have actually hunted. Delicious, lean, gamey moose”

“Imagine: a franchise of affordable restaurants with you as their spokes-governor — Sarah’s Moose Hut! Or International House of Moose! TGIMoose?”

“That’s right. Moose burgers. Moose stew. Moose cakes. Moose dumplings. Moose loaf. Moose kabobs. Moose casserole. Moose and potatoes. Moose lo mein. Moose tacos. The mind boggles.”

While The Veg Star can’t agree with ethics of the aforementioned business plan, in the true spirit of capitalism, International House of Moose would be Palin’s right to pursue.

One would hope she would at least meet a vegan halfway and offer faux breaded moose wings (deep fried in vegetable oil separately from the real thing) on the TGIMoose menu.

Sarah Palin has a new pen pal, but it’s not one she might not write back to.

According to The Record, Andrew Hunt, a history professor at the University of Waterloo, has written the former Republican vice presidential candidate a letter, urging her to consider the benefits of veganism–both for people and animals. He even plans to throw in a few recipes.

But he’s not stopping at one note.

Hunt plans to write a letter every week, for the next year. Or at least until the restraining order is issued.

“I intend to send them to her very religiously,” Hunt said. “I intend to persuade her that this is a much better. I tend to write them as if I’m sitting at the dinner table with her.”

Of course, no vegan would ever voluntarily sit at the dinner table with Palin, given her attitudes about animals as food, as evident in her book, Going Rogue, when she wrote, “I always remind people from outside our state that there’s plenty of room for all Alaska’s animals — right next to the mashed potatoes.”

Still Hunt insists he will play the nice guy.

“I understand why (Palin) loves meat. I ate it most of my life,” he said. “I’m trying to set a very respectful tone toward meat eaters.”

“All my life I have loved animals, but I was living in ignorance and not really aware of the suffering caused by my choices,” Hunt  added. “I’m not saying people should stop drinking milk or eating meat. All I’m asking is they think about the consequences of those decisions.”

“ok, so sarah palin is releasing a book. and it’s filled with some insightful, thoughtful gems, like: ‘here’s my philosophy on being a carnivore: If God had not intended for us to eat animals, how come He made them out of meat?”

“the problem, of course, being that other things are also made out of meat. like, well, people. and doggies and kitties. and cute little human babies. so if we follow your logic, mrs palin, you are actually suggesting that god intended for us to eat humans and dogs and cats and human babies, as these things are all technically made out of meat. i’m not even being swiftian, i’m just exposing sarah palin’s thoughts to some simple logic. which might be problematic, as she is also the person who once talked about looking out her window and seeing vladimir putin staring back (although he’s technically 8,000 miles away, unless he’s recently moved to kamchatka).”
