You say potato. I say tomato. We say Who Would You. Fancast says “Would You Rather.”

Fancast.com recently asked a series of situational questions to Better Off Ted co-stars Jonathan Slavin and Malcolm Barrett. Better Off Ted is an ABC comedy about a research company that investigates futuristic type ideas like test tube meat.

Would you rather eat beef without cows or pork without pigs?
MB: I don’t want to eat any of those things. You [Jonathan] eat beef without cows now! Tofu and seitan!
JS: He says he wouldn’t eat any of those things, but I’m telling you, the first lunch break we had he’d be like ‘I’m hungry.’ He’d put them on a tortilla and go to town.
MB: I’d wrap it up.

Would you rather spend eternity on a deserted island with Portia De Rossi or Jay Harrington?
MB & JS: [together] Portia!
JS: Portia and I are both gay vegans, so we have so much to talk about.
MB: I just think at some point she’s got to get naked.

Of course, if only Portia and Jonathan were stranded on the island together, at least it wouldn’t be hard to decide on what to eat for dinner every evening. Unless, Jonathan demanded berry soup and Portia wanted leaf stew. Television stars can be divas.

Jonathan Slavin: Better Off Ted’s Other Gay Vegan

Jonathan Slavin plays a nerdy research scientist on the ABC television series Better Off Ted.

You may recall us telling you that one of the best know vegan lesbians, Portia de Rossi, stars on the show as well.

But Portia isn’t the only gay/lesbian on the set of Better Off Ted who leaves cheese off her pizza if the cast and crew are ordering in. Plus, Portia’s forced to make room for him at their home when he has pizza with Ellen.

“Ellen’s been amazingly supportive of the show, so we all got together and watched the premiere there,” Slavin told Advocate.com. “They have a beautiful home that’s first and foremost a home; it feels very comfortable. There was lots of vegan pizzas, and vegan this, vegan that. I never go to a dinner party where I can eat everything on the table, so I was thrilled.”

Slavin, who’s been working as an actor since the early 90s, has played roles in Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Caroline in the City, Wings, and My Name Is Earl.

“Those are still little boys to me.”

Marley & Mills: Heather Mills Poses With Dog At Genesis Awards

23rd Annual Genesis Awards - Arrivals

The 23rd annual Genesis Awards were held this weekend and vegan Heather Mills was present with a very handsome companion: a golden Labrador retriever, one of the dogs who played Marley in the Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson hit movie, Marley & Me.

The Genesis Awards are held annually to recognize celebrities and notable public figures that have made the biggest bark (had to throw that pun in) for animal rights.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi received the Wyler Awards this year. The couple recently became vegan and were huge Proposition 2 (which allows some farm animals to move around freely) supporters last year.

Portia de Rossi’s “Better Off Ted” Featuring Test Tube Meat

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 16th, 2009 in Actresses.

Portia de Rossi makes an appearance at a special screening for Dr. Wayne W. Dyers Ambition To Meaning: Finding Your Lifes Purpose

Portia de Rossi is set to star in a new ABC drama called Better Off Ted about a research & development company, Veridian Dynamics, without scruples.

Much of their ideas are generated just to see “what will happen” or “what is possible” including cryonically freezing an employee.

A people freeze? Yikes! Sounds too much like a Zach Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) stunt from Saved By The Bell.

But there is an idea that gets generated at Veridian that’s ethical, test tube meat, and of course dear vegan Portia is totally turned on by it.

“Since I have been a vegan, I have been researching all kinds of ways animals are used in foods, and I see those big warehouses and wonder about what goes on inside,” de Rossi told Buffalo News. “It’s not too far from reality. There are huge corporations that manufacture food and makeup and nuclear weapons.”

It may not be that far from reality.

PETA announced last year it would award a million dollars to the “first person to come up with a method to produce commercially viable quantities of in vitro meat at competitive prices by 2012.”

Entrepreneurs and scientists, get ready, set go!

“Better Off Ted,” premiers this Wednesday on ABC.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi will be honored by the Humane Society next month for their love of animals, so it’s both ironic and disappointing that it’s been brought to our attention that vegan Ellen is the Cover gal for Cover Girl cosmetics, a company that still tests on animals.

Even more ironic, the ads featuring Ellen will debut around the time she is given her award.

Deceiver.com put its ever so sarcastic slant on things:

Proposition 2, eh? I remember that. It was right around the time she signed up to become Cover Girl’s newest spokesmodel, despite the fact the beauty company is the largest that still tests on animals. Die, bunnies!

Ironically those print ads just started appearing in the March issues of all the magazines. Great timing there, HSUS.

We’ve learned before that celebrities don’t always investigate companies before representing them. We’ve also learned that celebrities make decisions that seem to completely contradict other behaviors.

Even Portia called Ellen out on their first date for wearing calfskin leather.

The decision to live ethically is an ongoing process of keeping informed and doing your research. Have you supported a company in the past only to stop after finding out some of their business decisions were against your beliefs?

Ellen And Portia To Receive Wyler Award By Humane Society

35th Annual People's Choice Awards - Backstage

Quite possibly Hollywood’s newest vegan couple, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi will be honored for their efforts to improve care for animals at the Humane Society’s Genesis Awards next month.

The Wyler Award, named after the late Genesis Award founder, Gretchen Wyler, is given to celebrities or other public figures who have made the most noise in standing up for the better treatment of animals.

Looks like they’ve made the right choice. Where do we start?

Portia and Ellen both became vegans this year, saying no to every animal product, whether flesh or a byproduct. They both were active in getting the word out on Prop 2, the measure which passed in California to allow certain farm animals to move around freely.

They even share their lifestyle with people who are fortunate enough to be in their presence. The wedding reception menu was completely vegan. Ellen has given out vegan items quite a few times on her television show.

Wow. That’s a lot of hard work, guys. Have a cold one on us. You deserve it!
