Missy Higgins

Missy Higgins has been chosen as the Sexiest Vegetarian of Australia in a poll by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

“I’m just a real lover of animals and I think when I was a kid that’s why I became a vegetarian,” Higgins said.

Plus, she learned a really good lesson in boarding school about where food comes from. Or, rather, not knowing where it comes from.

If so, and you’re still sitting at a cubicle, you should be spanking yourself now because you could have been a vegetarian porn star!

Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton has been chosen as person of the year by animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Earlier this year, the former president of the United States announced he’d gone vegan to slim down for his daughter Chelsea’s wedding. He lost 24 pounds, but kept his vegan diet because he’s motivated by studies showing most people who eat a plant-based diet can prevent and reverse heart disease.

“Studies have proved that vegetarians and vegans live, on average, six to 10 years longer than meat-eaters,” PETA writes on its website.

Georges Laraque Offers $100,000 To Move Lucy The Elephant

Georges Laraque

Georges Laraques, former NHL player who’s currently the Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, has written a letter to the mayor of Edmonton in Canada, saying he will donate $100,000 to a city project if Lucy the Elephant living at the Valley Zoo is transferred to a sanctuary.

Canadian animal rights group Zoocheck and PETA have both requested the elephant be removed from the zoo, citing Canada’s cold climate and the lack of another elephant in Lucy’s den being detrimental to her health.

“Because zoos can’t begin to fulfill the social and physical needs of these highly intelligent animals, even zoos in far warmer areas have started to phase out their elephant exhibits,” Laraque wrote.

Michael Vick, notorious for his involvement with Bad News Kennels and dog fighting activities, has expressed his interest in proving he could be a good pet owner again. The consequences of him “failing” the test would be drastic, and two animal rights groups have weighed in on the matter.

“I have been around him a lot, and feel confident that he would do a good job as a pet owner,” Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane Society of the United States, told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Vick chose to work with the HSUS on its anti-dogfighting campaigns and has traveled across the country speaking to youth about the cruelty of the sport.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 12th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Books, Business.

Amazon.com is quite the classy vendor in the news lately. First, it was the handy guide to pedophilia that, after protests, was pulled from the website, and now, the online company is being asked to get rid of its books on dog and cockfighting.

PETA says two books, “The Art Of Cockfighting—A Handbook for Beginners and Old Timers” and “Dogs of Velvet and Steel,” should not be available because they encourage people to participate in the activities, which are illegal.

The midterm elections are over, but one former politician will be asking for your vote soon, as PETA holds its Sexiest Vegetarians contest for 2011.

Insiders reveal former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, is definitely a candidate.

“Clinton will surely be a popular nominee in next year’s contest,” said PETA’s Jaime Zalac, according to U.S. News and World Report.

On the advice of two famous physicians and authors, Dr. Dean Ornish and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Clinton turned to a plant-based diet in hopes it may repair some of the damage to his cardio system he’s sustained over the years after learning of a study that showed most individuals who stopped eating animal products were able to reverse signs of heart disease.

The young lady who was video taped throwing several puppies into a river to drown will not face any charges because police say she is too young to appear before a judge.

This decision has outraged members of PETA in Europe, along with the rumor that the puppies were rescued by a woman who found them shortly afterward.
