Wouldn’t it be fantastic if one of the most popular former presidents of the United States was a spokesperson for the vegetarian and vegan diet? Well, he practically is.
As reported earlier, Bill Clinton has been sticking to a mainly vegetarian diet (he says once in awhile he’ll eat fish, but not very often) since discovering it worked so well for his weight loss before Chelsea’s wedding. In an interview for Yahoo News and the Huffington Post, Clinton brings up a study he read that showed people who followed a vegan diet and put no added cholesterol into their bodies from animal products had some pretty good health outcomes.
“Since 1986, several hundred people who have tried essentially a plant based diet–not ingesting cholesterol from any source–have seen their bodies start to heal themselves,” Bill said.
“Break up the arterial blockage, break up the calcium deposits around the heart. Eight-two percent of the people who have done this have had that result, so I’m going to see if I can be one of them.”
In other words, a plant based diet has been shown to stop and reverse heart disease.
Clinton said one of his biggest motivators for staying healthy is being around to see little Clinton-Mezvinskys, or his grandchildren around.
This guy isn’t known for losing, so we’re pretty sure he’ll come out as one of the plant based winners!

“Vegetarianism,” as the word is generally used, is not a plant based diet and is the same as omnivorism in all ways, including ethically. I mean really, on which plants do eggs and milk grow?
A “vegetarian” diet is still full of cholesterol, which is what Clinton says he’s avoiding for health reasons. So, technically, what he’s said is that he’s following a VEGAN diet for health … which is very different from vegetarianism.
