Victoria Beckham Slammed For Sporting Hermes Bags

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, June 21st, 2009 in Fashion, Female Singers.

**RESTRICTIONS APPLY** Victoria Beckham arrives at Londons Heathrow airport carrying her favorite purple Hermes Kelly handbag

The former Posh Spice is known for her fashion statements, including her handbags, but one bag in particular is giving the folks of PETA the creeps.

Victoria Beckham has been spotted carrying a Hermes bag around town. Hermes is a company that uses crocodile skin in its products, and has recently started to breed its own crocs for the fashion line.

“We will send Victoria Beckham, a compassionate person who won’t wear fur, our undercover footage that shows how alligators and crocodiles are beaten to death and how snakes are nailed to trees and skinned alive for these products,” the animal rights group stated.

“The mere thought of purposefully breeding and killing crocodiles for an outdated, overpriced handbag should make any fashionista’s skin crawl.”

Vegetarian Victoria has made statements in the past, denouncing fur and claims the only fur products she wears are fake.

Gabe Saporta Must Break News Of Not Being Sexiest To Mommy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, June 21st, 2009 in Male Singers.

8th Annual Jed Foundation Gala

Gabe Saporta was a contender in PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity contest, but, as we told you earlier, lost to Milo Ventimiglia.

Gabe’s a good sport about it, but is wondering if mom will be disappointed.

On a recent Twitter entry, he wrote @GabrielSaporta:

“i can’t believe i lost sexiest veggie 3 years in a row! what a horrible disappointment. what ever will i tell my mom?”

We’re sure mom is proud of her son, the lead singer in Cobra Starship. After all, you don’t have to be voted the sexiest vegetarian to be an awesome vegetarian citizen.

Gabe’s done his part to stand up for animals, including posing in an anti-fur ad with this cute little bunny.

Mom’s probably got dozens of those posters plastered on the walls at home. And mini ones for the refrigerator.

Rest assured, Gabe. Mom will still love you. And so will your fans.

Elle Style Awards 2009

English recording artist and songwriter VV Brown recently became vegetarian after seeing a cow killed and stripped of its guts while in Africa.

But she’s thinking of taking it a step further and leaning towards veganism, because, well, who wants to deal with a chick during that “time of the month?”

“I’m thinking of giving up eggs because if you think about it, they are just chicken’s periods,” she told the UK Guardian.

Come again?

Oh, sure, VV must be talking about the fact that eggs are unfertilized products of a chicken’s reproductive cycle, which some have likened to the same process that occurs when an egg is unfertilized in human females.

Yeah, if you think about it…VV has the right idea.

She’s got a new album coming out, Traveling Like The Light. Check out her Myspace for some music samples.

Moby Asks Moby About Self-Righteous Vegan Crap

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, June 19th, 2009 in Humor, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Videos.

Moby recently sat down and interviewed himself.

Yes, you read right. In a hilarious interview, cool video technique combines with Moby’s strange sense of humor, allowing the singer and musician to take on two different personas, one that mocks and ridicules him while asking questions.

“So while we’re here, you got any of that self-righteous vegan crap you want to talk about?” asked Moby’s alter ego, who sports a backwards cap.

“Well, it’s not self-righteous,” Moby answers. “At least, I hope it’s not self-righteous. I’ve been a vegan now for 22 years.”

“Boooring,” sighs alter ego Moby.

“If other people choose to eat meat or dairy products, that’s their choice. I don’t really want to judge them. I hope I’m not being too self-righteous.”

Alter ego Moby says he really wishes Eminem had kicked Moby’s ass at the MTV awards and asks how it feels to be the least attractive musician in the business.

Man, alter egos can be brutal!

Rachael Ray, Dog Isaboo Run From Vegans

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, June 19th, 2009 in Chefs.

North Shore Animal League Americas 2nd Annual DogCatemy Awards

Although she included an entire vegetarian recipe chapter in her Big Orange Book cookbook, it didn’t look as though Rachael Ray was too interested in talking to vegans. Or maybe she just wasn’t interested in talking to Super Vegans.

Roseann Marulli and Joy Askew over at SuperVegan.com set up a Farm Stock Animal Sanctuary booth in Union Park Square with a huge sign overhead that read, “Ask A Vegan.”

It was an opportunity for people to stop by and ask questions about veganism, animal rights, and get literature if they wanted.

Rachael Ray and her husband John Cusimano stopped by, along with their dog Isaboo. John stayed and chatted for a while, but when Rachael found out what the booth was about, she and Isaboo walked away faster than you can say, “Extra Virgin Olive Oil.”

So even though she listened to vegetarians on tour who expressed interest in more veg recipes for her cookbook, don’t expect more vegan recipes anytime soon.

“I guess it’s not just the Food Network that’s afraid of vegans!” Roseann said.

Or maybe it was Isaboo’s idea, as she was scared of what vegan dog food Rachael might try to concoct.

By the way, the gals are still doling out vegan advice every other Saturday, same time, same place.

Bill Russell Says Vegetarians Cooperative, Carnivores Competitive

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, June 18th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports.

Launch Party for Robert Redfords Iconoclasts

Ah, would you like to recommend Tofurky Jurky to the office jerky who everyone tries to avoid?

That might not be such a bad idea as Boston Celtics legend and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell said being vegetarian made him more friendly and cooperative.

From a recent interview:

Q: Your book talks a lot about male friendship. You thought your intense competitiveness made it difficult for you to have friendships. Are you competitive about everything?

A: No. When I was playing I was, extraordinarily so. But after I retired I was a vegetarian for a couple years, and it’s probably silly but I thought carnivores were very competitive. I thought if I was vegetarian, I would be more co-operative than competitive.

Q: Did it work?
A: Yes, and I was better able to exercise friendship.

Of course we already know being vegetarian doesn’t interfere with the competitive edge of being an athlete, given the highly successful veg men and women out there.

12th Annual ACE Awards: Accessories Council Honors Fashion Influencers

The Telegraph was interviewing Chrissie Hynde when she revealed she was wearing a pair of Stella McCartney faux leather boots.

The price of a Stella shoe can reach up to seven, eight, and nine hundred dollars. Easy for a rock star like Chrissie, but maybe not so much for the rest of us who haven’t released new albums like Break Up The Concrete.

Don’t despair, as Chrissie says, “you can get the cheap junk at the market.”

Sure, cheap synthetic shoes are abundant. But then you have to worry about the chemicals involved in producing them and whether or not someone like your kid sister was gluing them together. And you thought choosing a pair of shoes was all about ensuring they didn’t give you blisters!

Elizabeth Olsen’s got some nice vegan boots for around $250, like the Thriller.

Price still not right? Chuck the boots altogether and pick up some Zoe and Zac shoes from Payless for under $30! They’re made with sustainable and recycled material and some profits go towards planting new trees.  What could be more beautiful, except of course, your feet in them?

Kellie Pickler Sparks Veggie Hate Among Country Folk

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, June 18th, 2009 in Female Singers.

2009 CMT Music Awards - Arrivals

She hasn’t held her title for even a month and already controversy is happening.

No, Kellie Pickler hasn’t been found in revealing photographs of her chomping on hamburgers after winning PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Contest. But there are some that wish she would.

Amanda Nolz at Beef magazine recently blogged on the Beef Daily blog (Seriously, we’re not kidding. We know you’ll want to bookmark that in your browser as well as subscribe to the Beef Daily e-newsletter.) that Kellie was an example of a country music star who had turned away from country values.

Just like evil Carrie Underwood who donated funds from her American Idol elimination song to the Humane Society, Kellie is ruining everything country. Well, shame on her!

“Well, it’s no secret that I’m not a fan of Carrie Underwood, a vocal vegetarian who actively teams up with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), and you’ve heard me rant and rave about the “Oprah Effect,” where anything Oprah says, the world listens to as fact. It’s unfortunate that others like Kellie Pickler are now following suit. Time and time again, these celebrities stand up and against America’s food producers, heightening an already troubling outlook consumers have on farmers and ranchers.”

“Even though we don’t have fame, fortune and our faces on the cover of magazines, farmers and ranchers have the capability to feed 144 people each year. We have the determination and drive to produce a safe and wholesome product to feed the world. Agriculturalists are truly people to look up to, and today, I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and tell your story. It’s time we let our voices be heard. Who’s with me?”

Uh, not us. But anyway…

It must be tough for someone from some parts of the U.S. South, farming background or living in the heart of “cattle country” to go against the grain and be veg. Kudos to them.

Are you a cattle rancher kid who went wild and became veg, much to the disappointment of your friends and family?
