Meredith Vieira and several other celebrities’ New Year’s resolutions are posted at Vegan Resolutions.

Vieira would like to give up dairy–at least in her morning cup of joe.

“I vow to use almond milk instead of milk in my coffee,” the journalist and NBC correspondent said.

That’s quite an upgrade from her old breakfasts of “cigarettes and cola,” as she explained on Today.

All those celebrities who put their faces on their food products (cough, cough Wolfgang Puck) had better watch out.

Former Lost star Jorge Garcia has been in the kitchen mastering his formula for almond milk and he’s already got it bottled and waiting for the no-milk man to deliver.

It’s hard to get “Lost” using Garcia’s recipe because there are only two ingredients: almonds and water.

His ideas for breakfast and lunch were shared with The Edmonton Journal, and they’re definitely suited for the simple cook in all of us.

Almond Milk

It’s time to tell the cow to moooo over.

The Wall Street Journal recently featured an article on the soaring popularity of almond milk.

Many people, and not just vegans, are opting for the nutty drink as an alternative to dairy and soy for both taste and health reasons. Its presence on the shelves helped fuel a 13% growth in non-dairy milk alternatives, according to SymphonyIRI Group, a Chicago market research firm.

And according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, dairy beverage consumption has been declining for years.

The best cooks do it without measuring, right? Either that or the end product is a horrible mess.

Given the fact Moby has been a vegan for over two decades, it’s safe to say when he whips up his homemade almond milk without following instructions, it’s a success.

Alicia Silverstone hosts a launch for her new book THE KIND DIET , NYC

Alicia Silverstone had a launch party for her vegan diet and lifestyle book, The Kind Diet, which will be released tomorrow from Rodale Publishing.

During the celebration at New York City’s Candle 79, Alicia took the time to explain why cow’s milk wasn’t made from humans.

“Remember, dairy was designed to make little baby calves turn into 400-pound cows, so that’s what it does to you,” Silverstone said. “It makes you fat.”

Well…guess sometimes you have to be blunt.

A study discussed in the Washington Post agrees.

Researchers found that children who drank 3 servings of milk a day were prone to becoming overweight.

Let’s ease up on that mother cow and chug some almond milk instead.
